Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series Analysis
This and Yng. Actor always seems to be the weaker categories, but the actors I have predicted have stepped up their game this yr. Michael and Jacob are the ones to beat in this category. Both have really emotional storylines (Tad & ghost Dixie and him finding his daughter and JR losing Babe and the aftermath) that could clinch either of them the win. deVry could be the actor who upsets in this category w/Storm’s Suicide episodes. Cosgrove could use the stuff earlier w/Bill’s temporary blindness or baby Max’s death. Kerwin is a great character actor and proved w/the episode of him standing up to his son that he’s not just a day player. Other worthy contenders: John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex, OLTL), Joseph Mascolo (Stefano, Days), & Billy Miller (Billy, Y&R)

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series
Michael E. Knight as Tad Martin, All My Children (ABC)
Jacob Young as JR Chandler, All My Children (ABC)
William deVry as Storm Logan, The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS)
Daniel Cosgrove as Bill Lewis, Guiding Light (CBS)
Brian Kerwin as Charlie Banks, One Life to Live (ABC)

FYC: 2008-2009 Award Season
The Dark Knight, Mickey Rourke, Richard Jenkins, Sally Hawkins, Kristin Scott Thomas, Heath Ledger, Michael Shannon & Viola Davis

FYC: 2009 Daytime Emmys
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series

Noelle Beck as Lily Snyder, As the World Turns (CBS)

Congrats to the 2009 Grammy Award Nominees
Adele, Coldplay, Death Cab For Cutie, Kings of Leon, Lil Wayne, Ne-Yo, & Pink

I do believe Van Hansis is also too old for the Younger Actor category. He turned 27 in September and the cutoff age is 25. He was able to submit last year because he submited episodes from before he turned 26.

ETA: this is in regards to the first post in this thread.

As for Younger Actress, I honestly expect Jennifer Landon to be submitted again. She aired this year and that makes her eligible. Doesn't matter if she didn't have any Emmy material because to the Daytime Emmy voters that doesn't matter.

atwt tends to not pre-nom anyone who leaves the show, especially early in the year. i dont expect her to be nominated or pre-nommed. they didnt pre-nom cady mcclain in 2006 or 2008 when she left in 05 and when they knew she was leaving earlier this year. and jennifer ferrin? she got snubbed as well in favor of marie wilson for the year she left. i know landon is that much better but so was cady mcclain and ferrin over their co-star competitors.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series Analysis:
This is the category that I am (foolishly of course) excited about the most. So many powerful and dynamic performances that it was really hard for me to narrow it down to 5 but I did. I predicting that there will be one sole nominee from last yr. back in the race and that’s last yrs. winner Jeanne Cooper. The stuff right now w/Kay & Marge has been great her and as the storyline progress I am sure she’ll have stronger stuff to submit. Debbi Morgan will be the first African American actress to be nominated for an Emmy in this category if she submits in this category and give the voting panel the episode where Angie reunites w/Jesse. If KKL submits the episodes around Storm’s suicide and doesn’t get a nomination I think it’s over for her b/c that was some of the best acting I’ve seen out of that woman. Laura Wright has grown so much as an actress. Having three roles under her belt (ex-Ally, LOVING/THE CITY, ex-Cassie, GL & Carly, GH), the role of Carly will get her a long overdue Emmy nomination next yr. The stuff w/Carly finding out about Jake’s paternity, goin toe-to-toe w/Liz & Sam, and then tearfully confronting Jason was some of her best work on that show to date and pairing that w/the Michael shooting storyline episodes, should net her the nomination and a deserved win. MTS was snubbed last yr., but that isn’t slowing the Emmy nominated actress down. She is still turning out great performances and should be back in the race to make up for that crime that happen this yr. Other worthy contenders: Noelle Beck (Lily, ATWT), Alison Sweeney (Sami, Days), & Kassie DePaiva (Blair, OLTL).

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series
Debbi Morgan as Angie Hubbard, All My Children (ABC)
Katherine Kelly Lang as Brooke Logan, The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS)

Melody Thomas Scott as Nikki Newman, The Young and the Restless (CBS)

Great analysis east/west.

For once, Granny Cooper actually belongs in this category, especially with the work she has done this past week in her Marge/Katherine scenes.

And Melody Thomas Scott had the year of her career and deserves to be here, as well. She was royally screwed last year by not even getting a nod, but i hope that all changes come 2009.

And then's there Katherine Kelly Lang. I so agree that if she is snubbed this time around with all her superb work dealing with Storm's suicide, then she may as well give up all hope of ever getting her first nom.

But they didn't win 3 straight Emmys. Depending on how ATWT decideds their prenoms by either actors selecting or by Producers picking she could get in especially if Producers pick because they will go for a sure thing. I hope that I'm wrong because I don't think she deserved the last one she got but I'm not holding my breath the show won't nom her.

Also, Marnie Schulenburg turned 26 in May which means she is in the same boat as Hansis was last year. She would have to submit material from prior to the birthday in May which means she pretty much has the same amount of material as Landon to choose from.

here are my nomination predictions...

outstanding drama series
all my children*
bold and the beautiful
one life to live
young and the restless

amc with the tornado has overtaken oltl. b&b replaces gh because of the sweeps stunt being moved back, and atwt to me i dont see any nominating qualities or a nom worthy reel.

outstanding drama series-writing
all my children*
bold and the beautiful
general hospital
one life to live
young and the restless*

i think its a tie. usually writing and drama series dont have the same winners in recent memory unless one is a tie. take gl's writing emmy in 07 but the tie with y&r for ds.

outstanding drama series-directing
all my children*
days of our lives
general hospital
one life to live
young and the restless

outstanding lead actress
debbie morgan,amc*
maura west,atwt
crystal chappelle,gl
kim zimmer,gl
melody thomas scott,y&r
michelle stafford,y&r(depends on submission)

outstanding lead actor
darnell williams,amc*
james scott,dool
anthony geary,gh
robert newman,gl
eric braaden,y&r
christian leblanc,y&r

outstanding supporting actress
beth elhers,amc
heather tom,b&b
sarah brown,gh*
carolyn hennessy,gh
gina tognoni,gl
kathy brier,oltl

its hard to imagine brown not winning if nominated. what worries me is if the other actors are afraid of her winning again.

outstanding supporting actor
ricky paul goldin,amc
trent dawson,atwt
brandon barasch,gh*
bradford anderson,gh
daniel cosgrove,gl
greg rikaart,y&r

despite weak showing by gr, thats the writers fault, and his peers are not going to leave him out because they dont give him story.

outstanding younger actress
marnie schullenberg,atwt
rachel melvin,dool
julie berman,gh*
caitlin van zandt,gl
farah fath,oltl

with all the hyping up by oltl, they have amc and dool who will put fath in.

outstanding younger actor
cornelius smith,jr,amc*
billy magnussen,atwt
darren brooks,dool
e.j. bonnilla,gl(not who i want in)
bryton mcclure,y&r

these predictions are not solely based on what i like(except sarah brown), but how i think the noms will go. some are terrible actors but i only list them in the younger categories because of how weak they are.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series Analysis
ERIC ERIC ERIC! This category is locked up if this man submits his name and the castmembers vote for him. My God his man has done so much this yr. and I would hate for him not be rewarded for it. The rest of my picks are just picking air particles in the air b/c no actor this yr. has came close to or match Braeden’s performance. Darnell has had a great year w/the return of Jesse & Angie. If he’s nominated I would prefer he submit some of the character driven material like the reunion to that horrid CGI wedding. Newman has been doing solid work w/the so so material he’s been given. Raines is one of my all time favorite Daytime and almost every yr. I have had him in my early predix and again this yr. the man can do no wrong. The episode when it was revealed that Peyton was his daughter was a really good showcase for this dynamic actor. Christian LeBlanc is always nominated and I’m sure he’ll get it again next yr blah blah. That was my attitude b4 I saw Wed. (11/5) episode. That was a really good episode for him and that paired w/anything since his father has come on will get him his third consecutive nomination. Other worthy contenders: Jon Hensley (Holden, ATWT), Peter Reckell (Bo, Days), & Trevor St. John (Todd, OLTL).

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series
Darnell Williams as Jesse Hubbard, All My Children (ABC)

i noticed some predicting pelphrey to be nominated again, but i brought this up before. back in may, i went to soapcentral and there was something about the emmys lowering the younger actor maximum eligibility age to 25. and isnt pelphrey 25? i heard on a soapcity board in december of 04 that pelphrey was gonna turn 22. add his age,21, up to now and he's 25 about to turn 26. its why i dont have him nominated because of that rule.

Outstanding Drama Series Analysis
In a yr. w/a strike, backstage drama, and a controversial storyline there’s has been some good drama in the world of Daytime. On AMC we had an iconic couple reunite, a tornado, and a loss of a beloved vet. B&B brought us a powerful suicide storyline that provided some of the show’s best episodes in their 20+ yrs. OLTL celebrated 40 yrs and w/the hostage storyline in Jan, to the anniversary episodes, and the current stories playing out have kept the soap world tlkn. And the crown jewel of soaps have rightfully taken back it’s claim as the best show n air thnxs to the new regime that is helming the show.

I laugh at the thought of Noelle Beck getting a nod for ATWT. Maura West is their lead and she's a force.

Lead Actor should include Darnell Williams' trumpeted return to AMC; Eric Breaden has gotten rave reviews; Jon Hensley is long overdue; David Canary is an Emmy fave as is Peter Bergman; and you can never count out the ham that comes from Christian LeBlanc. In fact, I'd predict LeBlanc will probably win again.

Lead Actress will probably go to Jeanne Cooper. If she can win for those God-awful scenes last year where she could barely remember her lines, then she's a sho-in this year. Melody Thomas Scott looks to be another contender with her front burner status mixed with the fact that she's a 30-year veteran without an Emmy and only one nod. I full expect Debbi Morgan to garner her first nomination in the category as will Laura Wright. And you can never count out Kim Zimmer, Crystal Chappell and the mighty Maura West.

Supporting Actor should be filled with familar faces like Brian Kerwin, Daniel Cosgrove, Jacob Young and Greg Rikkart. But for my money, Michael E. Knight is the one to beat here.

Supporting Actress will surely have Emmy-fave Heather Tom along with overdue Kathy Brier and rather than have her in lead contention where she's bound to be overlooked because of her age, I think Bree Williamson belongs her. I love Kelli Menighan Hensley also, but more than anything, I think it's time the Academy gave Judith Chapman her overdue attention and reward her with a nomination.

GIVE MERYL #3!!!!

Ouch.
I think Maura is a great actress, but the material this yr. has been awful and even w/the Carly and Holden affair hasn't been her best.
