Who is Gina Tognoni in Talks With This Week? Submitted by Jamey Giddens on September 10, 2009 - 1:32pm
Figuring out exactly which soap opera will snap up Guiding Light's Gina Tognoni is definitely keeping soap journos busy! This week's Soap Opera Digest has scoop about Tognoni being in preliminary talks with The Young and the Restless. I told y'all the day GL was cancelled Babs Bloom wasn't trying to see Ms. Gina T. head back the Land O' Frons!
Unfortunately, it isn't the role of Victoria Newman (last played by Heather Tom. No that isn't a typo.) Tognoni could be assuming. An insider tells Digest the soap is thinking about bringing a character back to Genoa City that Tognoni would be "perfect" for. Work that mojo G!
Discuss.

IMO Gina Tognoni's best choice would be Y&R or prime time. Yes, Y&R is uneven, but she'll get the most for her buck there. OLTL would be the obvious good second choice. Why do I see MAB following suit and bringing on Gina Tognoni as an even younger Diane Jenkis? I would HATE that.

I know our MTSRocks loved the original Diane, but the last one, her, and Gina look similar in appearance so her as Diane would be cool w/me even w/the age difference.

Not Diane Jenkins! Gina's a lot younger. I've been saying for a while that the character of Diane Jenkins should be brought back ASAP to mix it up with Jack, Phyllis, Sharon, Victor, Michael... she has history with everyone!
I'm thinking GT might be going for another GT: Grace Turner...?
Eh, I'd rather her be Victoria than any other character but if I had to choose I'd rather she be a recast Tricia. I liked Grace but I don't want to see any more women chasing Nick.

Either hire Gina as a Victoria recast, or don't hire her at all.
Y&R already has a big cast, many of which they neglect. They don't need to be adding more people to their already overstuffed cast.
Come on Maria Arena Bell, Victoria is in dire need of a recasting, and Gina Tognoni would be a perfect fit for the role with some better writing for the character.
But above all, Y&R needs to get it together on the writing front. The show is an utter mess these days.

Interesting. I was trying to come up with someone other than Diane Jenkins, which I think would be a bad idea, and I couldn't until I read all these suggestions. Some of the characters named above I'm not that familiar with, but I had forgotten about Grace.
YR, is in shambles right now. It doesn't need to add Tognoni right now. It needs to shake up its production and writing staff before it takes on another actor.
If I were Gina Tognoni's agent, I'd be pushing her hardcore for the role that Maura Tierney just had to unfortunately vacate on NBC's Parenthood. I thought the age difference between the two actresses (9 years) might be a problem, but I just read the character bio, and the character is 38, which is only 3 years older than Tognoni is.
Gina needs to try primetime. I think she could be a breakout star.

She would be good on that show (I ironically suggested Paige Turco to get that role, who did play Dinah back in the day). Gina could breakout in Primetime. I would love for her to be a ADA or DA on Law & Order: SVU.

i would rather see her on OLTL as Kelly but career-wise this is the smartest move she could make outside of going to primetime work. But there's no gaurentee that she'd get primetime work which is a more competitive field.
Praying The Daytime Emmys air on TV in 2010!
