Inspired by EW's new issue of new classics, I'd like to do something similar... and I want you guys to help me choose! Classic scenes, actors, moments, and pop culture recent/modern events that people will be talking about 20 years from now. Discuss. And I will print the best entries with your name in the story. Do you like?

Nel

I'm guessing just recent stuff? I'll do a write up later, but one that immediately springs to mind is Cassie's deathbed scenes on "The Young & the Restless."

What luck for rulers that men do not think.

I would suggest anything from the 90's and beyond. That's a good one Re: Cassie Y&R. The last great story Y&R wrote before hell ensued.

Oh 90's and beyond, then I think we can come up with many glorious things. Especially from Guiding Light and The Young & the Restless

Liz & Lucky's adolescent romance on General Hospital rivaled Lucky's parents' iconic courtship. Since their young love first blossomed, she thought he died, they've broken up and reconciled countless times, gotten married, had children, and separated. Not to mention Lucky has been played by multiple actors (no one holds a candle to little Jonathan Jackson's portrayal). They may not be together anymore, but are very much in each other's lives as parents. Plus, something tells me that Port Charles hasn't seen the last of Lucky & Liz lovin.

OLTL's Live Week....especially Kassie Depaiva's utterly heartbreaking and thrilling performances that week as Blair learned Todd lied about baby Jack.

Modern classic couples:
- Nick and Phyllis

Modern classic storylines:
- Cassie's death
- Sheila and Lauren babyswitch
- Sheila crosses over to B&B
- Tricia Dennison's fall from grace
- April Stevens domestic abuse storyline (one of my all-time fave - and underrated - Y&R stories)

Modern classic moments:
- Susan Lucci finally wins that damn Emmy
- Bette White guest-stars on B&B
- Victor returns from the dead - with Hope in tow
- Nikki's near-death experience - after being shot by Veronica - as she says goodbye to her family (stunningly filmed in b+w)

I'm sure I'll think of more. Great idea!

Cool idea. Stuff that comes to mind right away:

Classic characters:

Sami Brady - teen terror turned family heroine (DAYS)
Kristen Blake - mild-mannered humanitarian turned total nutjob (DAYS)
Vivian Alamain - so wicked and yet so hilarious (DAYS)
Luke Snyder (ATWT)
Tabitha Lenox (PASSIONS)
(It's hard to think of good characters who weren't eventually kind of ruined, like Kendall Hart and Billie Reed.)

Classic performances:

Eileen Davidson as Kristen Blake, Susan Banks, Sister Mary Moira, Thomas, and Penelope (DAYS)
Cynthia Watros as Annie Dutton (GL)
Deidre Hall as a devil-possessed Marlena Evans (DAYS)
Erika Slezak as Viki Lord and her many personalities (OLTL)

Classic couples:

John Black and Marlena Evans (DAYS)
Greenlee Smythe and Leo DuPres (AMC)
Cass Winthrop and Frankie Frame (AW)

Classic Moments:

Sami sees John and Marlena making love on the conference room table at Titan (one of the most pivotal moments in DAYS history)(DAYS)
Susan's teeth land in Vivian's drink during her and John's Elvis-themed wedding (DAYS)
Luke and Noah's first kiss (ATWT)
Carrie decks Sami at her wedding to Austin (DAYS)

How about the beind the scenes fistfight between Peter Bergman and Eric Braeden. That incident made it to every news program in the country.

Bill Bell put a halt to that real fast and threatened to fire both actors if they didn't make peace. Bell was a down to earth, sweet man, but he ruled his kingdom with an iron fist (no pun intended).

Y&R could use that fist now to bitch slap some sense into CBS and Barbara Bloom.

Can someone share the scoop regarding that fight between Eric Braeden and Peter Bergman? I had heard about it but never the details...

Thats funny MARKPGH

So this a fun thread. Here are mine.

Classic Moments/Stories:
Y&R: Nikki confesses to Victor she is not dying (1987)
Y&R: Rose gives away Nina's baby (1986).
Y&R: The introduction of Leanna Randolph (1987).
Y&R: Shawn buries Lauren alive (1986).
Y&R: Paul meets Cassandra Rawlins (we all know what happend there!)
Y&R: Sheila switches babies in the hospital
Y&R: Olivia finds out Nathan is having an affair with HIV positive Keesha.
Y&R: The rainstorm scene where Cole tells Victoria they might be siblings(1993) NOTE: Y&R has (and unless there is a miracle from above) never had that weekly rating since... 9.7)
Y&R: David Kimble removes his bandages and finds the work "KILLER" cut into his forehead.

B&B: Sheila's nightmare on the runway (LOVED IT!)

Classic Characters:
Nina Webster
Victor Newman
Nikki Newman
Sheila Carter
Leanna Randolph Love
Drucilla Barber

Shocking Moments:
-The firing of Brenda Dickson as Jill Abbott
-The fight between Eric Braden and Peter Bergman
-The catering to a young demographic that is slowly the industry.
-The behind the scenes upheaval that ended Y&R's streak as the best and most consistent soap in history (2006).
-Soap Operas used to be hip.

at the time, the media reported that fight started because EB felt like PB had upstaged him in a scene. EB confronted PB in his dressing room to discuss and then the fists came out. Just sounds like early on, these guys did not hit it off and this insignificant event was the straw that broke the camels back.

I'd like to see some love for The City and Sunset Beach - which had stellar production values.

Sunset Beach in particular did great rip-off storylines of The Poseidon Adventure and Scream.

I wish that show got some chance. I remember the end of the 1st episode when Casey dived off the tower to save Meg's life. That was such a breathtaking cliffhanger.

There were some great characters/actors from that show too - including Sarah Buxton (Annie) and Kathleene Noone (Bette). Timothy Adams was so dreamy as Casey.
