I'm not a fan of adding more characters to this show - but this is one recast/addition I fully support.
Y&R's African American roster sucks eggs and Malcolm - esp. a hot chiseled actor - is just the boost it needs to re-ignite interest in one of their core audience groups.
Not all chiseled actors are created equal. Let's hope the show casts someone closer to Shemar Moore than Texas Battle.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
I enjoy washboard abs as much as the next guy (okay, maybe more than the next guy). But if they belong to someone who can't act, I tend to change the channel and wait for his pics to show up on SoapHunks.net, where I don't have to watch him try to emote.

I wonder who they'd cast. I personally hope it's someone new and never heard of before - or someone with very few credentials. Shemar Moore came outta nowhere and just blossomed into the role. I think Y&R should try that same approach.
I say don't even bother to bring back Malcom if you're not bringing back Rowell as Dru.....
Total waste of time!!!!
This show is a mess right now, so i say clean up the wreckage first before you start bringing back past characters that are recasts. Clementine Ford is a prime example of a recast that just isn't working.
And can someone please tell me why Jill is working as a manicurist when she still owes half of the Chancellor mansion?? The Jill Bill Bell created would have never sunk to that level as long as she had some money.
Ditto for Gloria, whose son is a million dollar attorney.
Just another tragic downfall of 2 characters. Maria and Hogan need to be removed of their duties.
I was thinking that recasting Malcolm had to mean either the return of Drucilla or an increased presence for Olivia. Liv is the only potential love interest for either brother in the Winters family orbit right now, so something would have to change before a Malcolm recast makes sense. (Although making sense seems to be low on the priority list at the moment.)
i don't think moore is very good, he's decent on criminal minds i guess but the year he won the emmy he had the worst clip in the category, i didn't buy his acting at all

File this under WHAT THE WHAT!? ---------------------------------------------- EW Exclusive: Malcolm's back on 'The Young and the Restless' ... but it's not who you think by Lynette Rice Fans of The Young and the Restless who’ve been holding out hope that the smoldering Shemar Moore will reprise his role as the tempestuous Malcolm Winters are in for a rude awakening … the dude’s never coming back! But his character is: EW has learned exclusively that Darius McCrary – best known for playing Eddie Winslow on the long-running ABC sitcom Family Matters – has signed a multi-year deal to assume the role beginning Nov. 18. His debut will air on Dec. 29.
“We are thrilled to have the character of Malcolm back on Y&R,” according to a statement from Maria Bell, the drama’s co-executive producer/head writer. “Malcolm, Neil Winters’ brother, has always been a catalyst to exciting stories. He’s coming back to town to see his brother and to reunite with his biological daughter, Lily Winters, as she fights for her life. Malcolm is a photographer … someone who lives on the edge and who always pushes the envelope.”
Though he left the sudser in 2005 to co-star in CBS’ Criminal Minds, Moore once entertained the thought of briefly returning to the show that made him a star. His reps could not be reached for comment, but it seems obvious that Moore’s busy schedule (Minds is about to air its 100th episode) – combined with the fact that Bell wanted the Malcolm character back full-time - made it impossible for Moore to return (one insider even said that Moore has been approached before about coming back to the show but it was clear that it wouldn’t work out because of his commitment to Minds).
McCrary will find a familiar face on the Y&R set; the Emmy-winning Bryton James (Devon) used to co-star as Richie Crawford on Family Matters, as well.
Discuss.

i am actually not surprised that this actor was cast. yes i am that he is malcom, but y&r has loved picking off that particular show that it hit me a week ago when was mccray going to y&r. now its become true, and he cannot act. and thi recast has "fail" all over it. he's too dark skinned to be malcom for one. and then there's that mouth movement of his and that stupid laugh of his, this won't be good.
Why do you guys watch this trash anymore? I haven't watched Y&R for almost a month now...and, surprisingly, I don't miss it!
Someone let me know when MAB, Sheffer, and Rausch are gone, and maybe I'll come back then. If everyone stopped watching and the ratings tanked, they'd hire better writers.
