My main complaint with this show is the waste of Catherine Hickland. I just don't understand why she's not being used. However, I'm very grateful Lindsay is in prison because that always opens the door for her to return. USE CATHERINE!

Nelson and others have been singing the praises of OLTL since Carlivati took over but he's not helped to raise the ratings. He's doing something or not doing something that's keeping the viewers away. What is it that he needs to do? MY theory is that the plotting, the dialogue, the directing, the acting, etc. are either outstanding or mind-numbingly awful. There's no consistency. Within a week, you have the Dorian/David marriage and "takover," A. Martinez's embarrassing performance, Ilene Kristen's Emmy worthy tape, Vanessa/Lola/Tea, Rex and David's parentage; no story for Slezak or Brier, but Hunt is forced down our throats (and I'm a fan of hers); you have some fantastic dialogue, but you also have the clunky dialogue in the drug storyline. You also have a storyline coming up that depends upon women being stabbed, attacked or murdered. It's as if there are two writing teams on the show battling for control of the show. 50% of the show is great and 50% of the show is lousy which I suppose is better than the 20% great material (the Johnny/Lulu and Diane/alexis scenes) on GH or the 5% great material on ATWT.
i haven't had much time to watch soaps lately but when i do check in it's one life to live, it's just the most interesting one, i don't get the tuc watkins david love though, he's always been annoying to me. It's always intersting to me to how nelson is always going on about hair models on other shows but never makes reference to melissa archer being a hair model.

I couldn't agree more with you about Melissa Archer. And I also don't feel the love for Tuc Watkins, either. He is one character in particular I feel that Carlivati never got right.
I completely disagree about Tuc Watkins. He is by far my favorite actor on the show. I wish he would stop leaving because he could have such a place on OLTL. I wish he could book a 5 year contract or something like that. And I really want him to have an Emmy already. Or at least be nominated.

I like Tuc. He's not a favorite of mine, and I don't like that he comes and goes so much, but I like him. I guess what I should have said was that I don't get the David Vickers love (this time in particular; the Buddhism storyline ruined his return to the show for me). And now, just when he's starting to be less annoying, and just when I AM starting to get interested in his storyline, he'll leave again. And probably again, and again.

Ooh, Scott Evans is gay? I knew I liked Officer Fish, and now I know why.
File me under those who adore Tuc Watkins, though there are times where the show needs to use his outsize personality sparingly. As comic relief, he's golden, but when he's front and center he needs to be toned down to more human proportions, or else he risks becoming exhausting. That's why I enjoy his brief, memorable stints; he blows into town like a hurricane and then blows out again before wearing out his welcome. He leaves us wanting more, instead of wishing he would go away.
I also love Crystal Hunt's arrival. Crystal, I would disagree that she has been shoved down our throats. She's a new character and has only been around for a few weeks, and her presence has not taken away from any other storylines. If she's around more often, I think it's just to establish her and her relationships on the canvas. We'll see in a few weeks if she truly becomes overexposed.
I've always been a fan of Crystal Hunt, and I still prefer her Lizzie Spaulding to Marcy Rylan's. So far, I think she's a great addition to the show.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
scoop, i agree oltl is a bit overrated, but it really is second best but not as good a second best as atwt a few years back. the fact that all the other soaps except y&r have some kind of problems is why they are there. i was watching the y&r marathon saturday then caught the first segment of mon's oltl, but i had to turn it off. i dont understand the markko, lola, and vannessa characters, and that was the first time i saw martinez. wth? i dont like anything bw and will never accept her because her character is far from erin torpey's version and she is a product of fronz. half the cast no wait most is nowhere close to a emmy nod. there are atwt and gh in which it isnt that difficult to turn around that could be better if fixed. they are weak in the actor categories. when oltl isnt about marty/todd, the buchanons/dorian/david, roxy... its a step down. i am not crazy about the teens, gigi has overstayed her welcome and the vegas other than carlotta along with the delgados and markko can go. i find it funny that there's a drug story when the teens look so squeaky clean.
John-Paul Lavoisier doesn't act he hams. When he is not a ham he mugs. He is like the plague.
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

OLTL is nowhere near as overrated as Y&R. It does have alot of things to fix though. When the heck are they going to make Clint be Jessica's father again and reveal the identity of Rex's father. David would've been better off as Asa's son instead of Bo's.
