IMO, Beth has always been lame. Who ever got the idea that she is a good actor? I remember back to the original character of Beth, as played by Judi Evans. She was a gutsy teenager, not the weak & uninteresting victim that Beth now is.
I haven't liked Beth Chamberlin's work this week either, but I don't question that she's a good actress. Back when GL was doing Wednesday "Inside the Light" episodes, they gave her a full hour that revealed that Beth kidnapped Gus and Alan, and it's still one of the best acted hours I've ever seen in daytime television.
I'm not sure what's going on with GL. Chamberlin and Deas are such strong performers that I wonder if outside factors are contributing to their poorer showings of late. Is the shoddy production model getting in the way of their work? Does GL's potential for cancellation make them insecure and thus causing them to oversell their scenes? Or maybe they're just not connecting as well to the writing?
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
I disagree about Beth Chamberlin. I think she's a fine actress and I think she's done the best job with the role as anyone could following Judi Evans. However, the real problem has been the writing. The ONLY writer who could write for Beth Raines is the person who created her, Pamela K. Long.

I have. I guess therein lies the difference of opinion. One experience that has not been experienced by another has been experienced by someone else in the world. What one person does not consider, another person does consider due to personal experience. It's all good!

I looove Beth Chamberlain! No lameness to me. The only reason she may seem weak is because that's how she is written. I loved it when her character had an alter ego: Lorelei Hills. I think she's a wonderful actress. Again, opinion, opinion, opinions. It's all good though!

I have to give a shout out to Fiona Hutchinson who was so powerful in the scene were Jenna & Buzz were outside and she was telling him that he had to let Coop go. She stole that scene from Deas.
And on an aside that camera heighten the fact that Coops makeup was stickers. That close up near his nose was priceless (I wanted to pull that sticker off!).

See! GL is so real, you can tell it's not real. LOL.
I just watched Beth Chamberlin's performance following Coop's death. I have to completely disagree about her being over-the-top. She has never been spot on. In fact, I think she's never been stronger.
I thought Chamberlin did a nice job, you just have to get use to her squinting her eyes and shaking her head back and forth. But I was still impressed with her performance.
I can't imagine Judi Evans in the role. How long did she play that part? Was she really worthy of winning an Emmy for Supporting Actress?
Maybe I should check out GL, but truthfully all the praise doesn't surprise me. Whenever a (significant)character dies, usually any show feels jolted and the performers tend to come alive. So GL might be good now in short term, but once the mourning surpasses us, then we'll see where the show really lies.
Michelle Bauer is on her way back to Springfield, but Nancy St. Alban will not be reprising the role. It is still unkown who and when Michelle will appear on GL.
Exclusive: Bill and Lizzie Lighten Up with a Road Trip
Mar 3, 2009 07:06 PM ET by Matt Mitovich
Daniel Cosgrove and Marcy Rylan
Hoping to escape from the familial oppression that comes part and parcel with being in Springfield, Guiding Light's Bill and Lizzie will make a break for it and head south for some fun in the sun at Universal Studios Florida, Universal's Islands of Adventure and Universal CityWalk.
The scenes, to be taped on location the week of March 16, will air over multiple episodes in mid- to late April.
Alas, being a sudser, the young'uns won't be alone for long as they attempt to rekindle their love. Ultimately following them to the Sunshine State and cramping their style will be Phillip, Shayne, Beth, Alan, Remy and Dinah, to name just a few interlopers.
In fact, everyday folk such as yourselves can even get in on the action! GL's Murray Bartlett (Cyrus) and casting director Rob Decina will be holding an open casting session for this location shoot on Saturday, March 7, from 9 am to 1:30 pm/ET, at The Groove on the Universal CityWalk.
this is where i'm gonna disagree. yes, jd is a terrific actor but the show refuses to prenom him, what about the stuff he had last year with the election fallout, he was geat there and would be the frontrunner for the emmys this year had he been prenommed. also, this will probably be the only thing jd gets this year. but are emmy judges gonna be so rewarding towards a crappily producted show looking like a indy flick. thats the main problem, and if gl does get an advantage off this, i could see voters doing what they did to gh in 07. and its gonna be hit and miss with this peapak stuff so the bad isnt over yet.
sad to say, but i think its best if gl gets cancelled before this show gets further embarrassed. if they are not gonna revert back to the old style, then this show is gonna continue to hang by a thread. and actors from here certainly do not deserve to take noms away from someone at abc, when all they wil be is just present nominees and nothing more. personally i feel brown and wright at gh should be in over zimmer and tognoni, especially wright.

.............I am sorry, but GL should NOT be cancelled. The show is much better now and deserves a 2nd chance. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I am glad Tognoni and Zimmer are lead for GL.
