Fran Drescher's sitcom The Nanny had quite a number of soap references in its jokes and name soap guest stars. Anyone know exactly why? Were the writers, producers from Daytime? Fran's character was always a big soap fan, Heather Tom's sister was one of the children and the actor that played Maxwell Shefield was a former Days star. Stephen Nichols and Catherine Oxford had memorable guestings. And there was one Sweeps episode where Fran and Val won a trip to tour the CBS Daytime studios where there were tons of soap cameos from Y&R and B&B: I remember Hunter Tylo and Barbara Crampton mistaking Fran and Val for dayplayers who'd play hookers.

Her co-star, Charles Shaunessey, was from DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
I think it had to do with Fran Drescher being a big soap opera fan herself and that it probrally just made sense for the character to like soap operas.
The series also featured guest spots by many soap stars:
Jeann Cooper, Hunter Tylo, Peter Bregmen made guest apperances on the show. Shemar Moore and Joshua Morrow did as well. I think Eric Breaden did too, but i might be wrong on that one.
I know that Joan Van Ark was on one memorable episode.
I just say the other night the episode where Fran gets a job on Y&R as Jack Abbotts love interest but gets fired because she keeps calling him "Mr. Sheffield".
Praying The Daytime Emmys air on TV in 2010!
