Some people, if they don't know, you can't tell 'em.

Wow! I didn't even know Jeffrey O'Neill was dying. He's one of the few male characters I still like on the show.

As for Tognoni, it's shocking not because the show is so good right now -- hardly -- but because she's not even sticking it out until the end. I can't imagine there's any reason other than a new soap gig. What else but a conflict with another show would keep her from finishing GL's run?

"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide."
- Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)

They're going to kill everyone off a la Loving, I guess, or like Soap.

They're killing off Jeffrey years too late. Never liked the character. 742, I'm surprised you like him since he's the same kind of character you abhor on GH. The only difference between Johnny and Jeffrey is that Johnny never raped anyone.

I say Good riddance to Tognoni. She's a good actress, but I never cared what did or not happen to Dinah. The character was a symptom of what went wrong with GL: sociopathic characters with little rooting value.

Tognoni couldn't wait three months. Sorry, I like her, but that is VERY selfish.

Sorry to correct you, but Rick Hearst did not receive an Emmy nomination for his role of Matt Clark on The Young and the Restless either. He was brilliant and should have been recognized along with Sabryn Genet that year, but he wasn't on the show long enough to get the support from the cast. I thought Rick was great as Whip and also deserving of a nod for that role too.

Shouldn't Reva be the monumental GL character or maybe Ed Bauer to die on GL's final episode? Phillip's been off the canvas for years. Not that it won't be sentimental, but I think it should have been someone even more significant. I also like the idea of the show closing with Blake and Frank celebrating their engagement with Holly when they hear a knock on the door. Then the camera shows Blake opening the door and we'd see the back of a man's head and Blake would gasp "Ross is that you?". Why not?

Thanks Grace — I'll fix that. I meant every major character, Scott Banning and Matt Clark were such flashes in the pan.

I don't know though. On the one hand the show is ending and I guess it's more kosher for the actors to stay on til the final curtain. I remember B&B luring Sarah Buxton even when SuBe was wrapping up. She mentioned in SOD that people were already congratulating her at SuBe for landing a gig on B&B, but she told them she hadn't yet. And obviously she finished the show as one of its popular characters. The soap press lauded Eddie Cibrian who was already on Third Watch, for returning to SuBe to help end the show.

But on the other hand, if her cycle is such that she can quit, and is not breaking any agreement, then why not let her leave before GL ends? If she performed her job on GL, and has a new job being offered for her to begin pronto, then what should hold her back? If she's done everything her job requires and can leave GL, then shouldn't she?

Gina Tognoni would make a fantastic Victoria Newman - although my first choice for a recast when HT left was, and still is, Erin Hershey (ex-Port Charles). If GT is indeed being considered for Victoria, why can't the Bells just bring Heather Tom back and ake GT the new Katie on B&B?

The Olivia/Jeffrey situation was much more complicated than say EJ/Sami on DAYS or Todd/Marty on OLTL. Both characters were young and dumb, and though Jeffrey was wrong to take advantage, Olivia should never have been as reckless as she was. I think this was one of the most honestly and maturely dealt with rape storylines in recent years. Jeffrey can hardly be compared to the reprobates on GH. And in the last year, his romance with Reva has been my favorite on the show. I suspect they're killing him off to pave the way for a Reva/Josh reunion, but I prefer the current couple.

I agree...GT has been one of GL's most ardent and vocal supporters, and when she won both of her Emmys did cheerleading for Ellen Wheeler. At the same time, her job is ending, and if staying on GL to the end would cause her to miss out on future long term employment, then she is right to leave. Any of us would do the same- imagine if you knew you were going to be laid off and a great new opportunity came along, what would you do.

My guess is that negotiations went down to the wire, which is why it seems so sudden. If GL knew about this, and didn't prepare, then it's their mess to clean up. I would bet, based on GT's previous statements and love of the character of Dinah, that she was doing everything she could to take the new job and find a way to finish GL...when her contract expired and there was nothing in place, what else could she do? Of course this is speculation, but I think based on GL's mismanagement, and GT's public support, I'm close to the mark.

That was the 2001-02 season. One year before Prenoms were implemented. The Young and the Restless spearheaded the campaign for the change in nominating process. Years later, we have seen how corrupt they are with in-house voting for whom the soap pushes for nominations.

Does this mean it's a done deal for Gina at OLTL?

OLTL already passed on Gina, they said she wanted too much money. My guess is she's going to "As The World Turns" because she has stated unoffically that she is not interested in moving to Los Angeles.

Nah Boidiva, I am not buying Gina quitting GL abruptly to join deadmanwalking ATWT. It doesn't make any sense.. ATWT would certainly wait for Gina to finish another 6 weeks at GL... It has to be bigger..

Are we 100% positive that Gina would not move to LA? I keep hearing this and I have never seen it confirmed.

As much as I want her back on OLTL, Y&R is the ONLY soap to work on these days, maybe Days if it did not have that cancellation possibility hanging over its head.. (Which still shocks me considering it is a solid # 3) B&B is godawful, but will probably be on the air at least another 5-7 years..

Heck, couldn't Gina have possibly gotten a primetime series or even a small film role? Gina had a pretty cool (small) part as a bitchy doctor on The Sopranos and worked with James Gandolfini.

My guess in order of likelihood:

1)She worked out a deal with OLTL (Can you imagine a triangle with her, Daphne, and that HOT new lawyer brother of Destiny's? DAMN.
If someone asks for too much money you at least attempt to negotiate..
2)Primetime series or film role
3)Y&R (Smartest longterm move in my opinion)She would be hot with Sean Kanan..
4)B&B (Horrible show, but you at least work for the Bells and will have a job for awhile, maybe)
5)Maybe a soap we never thought of- Days or GH.
6) ATWT

Well, this move definitely won't win Gina any popularity points, but if it means she's got another gig lined up, then good for her. Primetime/film seems like a strong possibility. Soap schedules tend to be more flexible in terms of start dates and all that.

I don't blame her. If staying at GL for the extra three months would have stopped her from getting this new gig, then she made the right choice. I don't think its selfish, I think's its smart.

As for where she lands next, if the new gig is in Daytime, I don't think its at ATWT. I doubt P&G/CBS would have had a problem with letting her finish up at GL before she started at ATWT. So, if she really does intend to stay an east-coast girl, then my guess is that she lowered her asking price and struck a deal with ABC to go back to OLTL.

is it at all possible that she went to "All My Children"? maybe the rumors are true and she is the new Greenlee or she's creating a new character?

I thinks he and OLTL worked out a deal. Nelson refers to Kelly Cramer in his new column.
