I must say I'm really surprised at how much I've been loving the show lately. I completely expected Dena Higley to be awful, but she's really been doing great so far, keeping things moving with a good mix of action and character-driven interactions. I have to say, I don't think I ever enjoyed watching so much during Hogan Sheffer's tenure.
The biggest change I'd like to see is for Abe and Lexie to get a stronger story. I think exploring the problems in their marriage is smart, considering how little time they'd spent together as a married couple on good terms over the last five years or so. They were constantly hurting and rejecting one another (Lexie's affair with Tek, Lexie's sleeping with Brandon, Abe not trusting Lexie, the aftermath of the baby switch storyline), and it's not really been dealt with.
Also, a random aside, I really liked the girl that was a student of Nick's who was talking to him the other day. She was lovely and pleasant, and seemed pretty natural. I'd like to see more of her.
I'm not sure if I missed something or if its still a mystery to everyone but... What is the deal with Max/Nick? I know Max has been messing with Nicks proposal but I dont get why and what he has to gain. It just baffles me. I havent been watching Days long so maybe I missed something?
I am actually really loving the show. I am even enjoying Tamara Braun and I HATED her on GH. And James Scott is stealing my heart day by day.
I completely agree on Tamara Braun and James Scott.
There has been nothing in the way of explanation about Max and Nick. As far as I can guess, Max is genuinely just trying to help Nick but doesn't want Nick to know about it because of Nick's pride, or maybe because he thinks he's better off if everyone thinks he's too dumb to know anything about Nick's work. But the more I think about it, the more it kind of makes sense. Nick is working on alternative fuel sources, and Max was a racecar driver and auto mechanic. It's not that much of a stretch that he'd know a little something about the work.
Thanks. It does kind of make more sense now. I heard them mention the other day about Max being a racecar driver but I wasnt watching then so I wasnt even thinking along those lines. Actually I dont even think I knew what Nicks proposal was all about so that helped alot.
Probably not Emmy work necessarily, but Renee Jones was great last week dealing with Lexie and Abe's marital problems. I'm glad she's getting some material that's actually about her and not just doctoring on the good people of Salem. I guess without a big stunt (no big weddings or suicides yet), posters are ranking DAYS behind some of the other shows for the sweeps period, but I've loved every episode this month. I think they're on fire, and putting out stories that are character driven and interesting. Last week especially I just thought was fantastic.
Dena Higley has been doing an outstanding job so far.
Her stories are entertaining. The reintroduction of Lucas has been very nice to watch, especially with Sami/EJ sleeping together.
Her new characters have been a HUGE success (Daniel & Ava) and she has given all of the major couples something to play off.
The dialouge is fresh and relevant and the entire look of the show is outstanding (huge props to Ed Scott for that alone).
DAYS is certainly having a great year so far.
My one complaint is that the show needs to do something big this summer. An old-fashioned black-tie ball or masquerade to throw back to the 90's DAYS would do the trick.

I want a big summer storyline, too, and I'm also still complaining about the dialogue. Things have been great down to the breakdown level, really, but the actual words the characters are saying really could be greatly improved. But the storylines, acting, and directing have all been great. I can't believe how much I'm enjoying Dena Higley's work.
This show is getting frustrating because of how many story beats they seem to be missing. Some episodes, like yesterday's, I absolutely love, but even when I love it I have to question some of the decisions that are being made. For example, couldn't there have been a little more anticipation about Sami finding out EJ lied about them still being married and about the whole immigration thing? Yes, we saw EJ paying off the immigration guy weeks ago, but then there was no mention of it at all until yesterday when he admitted he had orchestrated the whole thing. That would have been so much better if a) they had been clearer about what EJ did and b) I could have enjoyed the anticipation of the truth coming out.
Things like this, and the ATWT levels of bad decision-making when it comes to following up on certain scenes and stories, are my biggest complaint. It was ridiculous watching Abe and Lexie get ready for their appointment with Theo and actually leave for it, and then, instead of learning something the next episode, we wait three or four days before being told that Abe and Lexie were told Theo was autistic. That's ridiculous! I was so interested to see where the Victor/Marlena interaction from Friday's episode was headed, but then it was dropped. Argh!
are they making chloe a s:;t? not good. at least she's with better talent than jay kenneth johnson is? and tamara braun? i'm getting bored now. sarah brown's gh return doesnt look so worse than hers now, sans micheal logan

The contrast between the two elevator love-making scenes in yesterday's episode was kind of hilarious. I'd attribute it to both better acting and a more logical pairing, but the EJ/Nicole stuff was great, so much better than Lucas/Chloe. Their scenes looked like really bad softcore porn.
Has anyone noticed how many minority bit players there are on this show now? For the last couple of months, almost every non-regular person with lines (outside of the France stuff) has been black or Asian: the woman who analyzed the disk with John's memories on it for Phillip, the tech guy at the police station, the manager at the Java Cafe, the reporter who exposed Bo's evidence tampering, a couple of nurses at the hospital, the girl who told Nick that his grant proposal had been submitted . . .
I guess they're making something of an effort to be more racially diverse. In very small steps.

Yes I have noticed that many of the bit players/extra's have been non-caucasian.
If DAYS wants to feature more non-caucasian characters, perhaps they should find a storyline for Tanya Boyd (Celeste) who has not been seen in months and increase airtime for Renee Jones & James Reynolds.

WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

Yesterday's episode was the first one crediting Gary Tomlin as co-executive producer. I'm interested (and kind of scared) to see what changes happen in the next few weeks.
