I commented to this when you posted it on Facebook, but I have enough outrage to share some of it here.
Patricia Mauceri, whom I've always loved as Carlotta, has made an indefensible decision to leave a show based on the gay storyline. Heck, it's worse than Chris Engen because she wasn't objecting to being part of a gay storyline. She resented the implication that her character could even be tolerant of a gay storyline. So she's stuck around through kidnappings, hostage situations, baby switches, murders, and Todd Frickin' Manning, but being supportive of homosexuals? That's the last straw!
I used to think that soap runners were underestimating the American public in their refusal to show gay storylines. But apparently some of the actors have been stuck in the same time warp.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
This is terrbile. Maybe she's friends with my mother and father and sister! LOL!
If Engen walked because of Adam/Rafe, and Y&R let him, have they set a dangerous precedent in Daytime? This is terrible to happen in the more liberal enetertainment field of all places. It is refreshing to have a supportive Latina mother. Sadly many people of color, who already battle intolerance, can be just as intolerant to homosexuality. See ya Carlotta of the old. Saundra Santiago was great, devious and sexy as mob boss Carmen on GL, so it's her and OLTL's gain. And to anyone who says it would be untrue or unrealistic for a devout Catholic to be ok with Kyle and Fish, I think you're completely wrong. Being Catholic and being tolerant or even supportive of the LGBTQ community are not mutually exclusive. Yes some people are not, but you can be Catholic (or any religion for that matter) and still be accepting of the LGBTQ community.

This news just makes me sad b/c I think the character and actress added something to the show. Oh well lets see what "sexy" Carlotta brings to the table.

Do we know that she objected because of personal beliefs or because she felt Carlotte would have reacted differently? IF it's the former, she's a giant hypocrite for taking money for appearing on a show written and produced by two gay men. That's nothing new of course. These types of people are always ready to take money from gay men and women, but when it's time to reciprocate, it's against their principles. People on other boards keep mentioning I THINK I DO to give her some sort of pro-gay rights cred, but she was the mother of the heterosexual friend. She was not involved with the gay romance. It's all too disappointing if true. This is in direct opposition to Clint Ritchie's angry response at Clint being made a homophobe.
What is in the water over at OLTL? Gay men are producing a show designed to please Frons's d*i*c*k. Robin Strasser is being treated like dirt. Same for Slezak. Brier and Stack are fired. Now, Mauceri is fired for possibly being a bigot. Enough already!

Mauceri's refusal to play the storyline is appalling, but let's hope OLTL -- ahem, Brian Frons -- doesn't use this as an opportunity to do to Carlotta what AMC has just done to Liza.

Oh you just know "sexy" Carlotta & Stacy will give that Matthew Buchanan a lap dance for his B.Day if Frons has his way b/c lets face it Saundra doesn't look like "a woman of a certian age" like Patricia. It's disgusting that is the mindset of ABCD, but it is true. So I can fully expect this recurring character to be feature a lot.

Wow what an idiot! She was asked to play a small role in a gay storyline, not do a lesbian threesome with Robin Strasser and Erika Slezak.
Plus, what is up with her, both Carlivati and Valentini are gay, but she had no problem working with them, but she had a problem playing a character that was positive about gay men. huh?

OMG! That would be awesome! Carlivati, get on it! Maybe Viki could develop a new alter who is a lesbian. She'll get Dorian drunk and wake up in bed with her as revenge for what she did to Charlie.

I have such mixed feelings about this. One the one hand i am disgusted that in this day and age anyone feels this way at all about gay people. BUT on the other hand, i almost feel like it's her right to feel however she wants and if she believes so strongly about it than maybe she should walk away from the show? I think as much as i'll miss her version of Carlotta it's probrally a better thing that we get an actress in the role that will be okay playing this.
It will be a bit weird seeing Sandra in the role since she was already on OLTL as Isabella Santi but then again she had maybe one line at most, so it shouldn't be that big an issue.
Praying The Daytime Emmys air on TV in 2010!

Well that would be sensational material to play! Personally given her history with men i wouldn't mind seeing them decide to have Nora explore her lesbian side. Maybe she keeps picking the wrong men because she's really gay?

I always thought that Dorian is in Love with Vicki, they are the best couple on OLTL.
Patricia has a problem with the gay storylines, but she is kool with both of her tv sons living in sin with their girlfriend, and Antonio having a baby out of weblock?? REALLY?
There are too many up-tight gay people on this borad..They need to get laid.. holla at me and if your in my area maybe I can help you out..

This is true, but aren't we talking about ACTING here? I mean no one think the actor that plays the homocidal maniac is truly a killer? Why do people get so tied up in their bigotry to not allow themselves to be even a small part of this storyline.

BOIDIVA actually this is Sandy's THIRD time on OLTL and there is a bit of irony in all of this. This time she's replacing someone. In the early 90's she was cast in a contract role but was replaced with a different actress before airdate. The few eppys that Sandy taped never aired. Back then soaps taped a full two weeks in advance. At the last minute ( say a week before her character's debut ) all the actors involved in her scenes were called back in for reshoots with the new girl in the role.

I was thinking back and could not figure out who it could be? Was this during the Paul Rauch era or Gottlieb era?
PRETTYGOODYEAR it was when OLTL was in its magnum opus, under the Gottlieb reign. The answer is so Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle for die hard OLTL ofenciandos
