GUIDING LIGHT
May 7, 2008
Marcy Rylan - Supporting Actress
Daniel Cosgrove - Supporting Actor

There isn't much worthy on GL these days writing wise for any actor to really show there stuff. But when they have half way decent material, the cast is steller.

Rylan & Cosgrove were great as Lizzie gave Bill the boot for stealing her families business from under her nose. Rylan's Lizze played the gambit today and she continues to prove that she is the only actress on the show thus far who is continually being written for and treated with as much respect as DK & EW can muster.

Days of our Lives
Best Younger Actress
Rachel Melvin - Chelsea Brady

After sharing a heated kiss, Chelsea tries to convince Dr. Daniel that he's wrong and they can be a couple. She tells him about her accidentally killing Zack. Daniel is moved, but still says they can't be together, which says she's willing to accept. Later, Chelsea finds Nick at the pub and breaks up with him, again.

While the scripting of the shows continues to be less than stellar, and even though Chelsea's already played her guilt over Zack's death and broken up with Nick before, I thought this was a very good episode to sum up Chelsea's character as she is now. This breakup felt different from the previous breakups, and I love that the show is smart enough to get the performances out of Melvin now that she wasn't ready for when the Zack's death story was written. Melvin's been doing a fantastic job of playing Chelsea as an adult rather than the teen she'd been a year ago, and giving appropriate gravity to the effects that the pancreas transplant had on her.

The Young and the Restless

Best Supporting Actress-Nia Peebles as Karen Taylor

Karen tells Neil she has a job offer in New York. Karen tells Neil that she'll never be Dru and if he can face that she'll stay. Neil tells Karen to go to New York.

I thought Nia finally showed her acting chops and it might be bittersweet since she might leave. Have not heard about Nia leaving but if this is her last episode what a classic way to exit. I thought her emotions were genuine in her few scenes and hopefully she isn't gone for good.

Heather Tom
"The Bold and the Beautiful, CBS"
Outstanding Supporting Actress
Wed May,14,2008/Thurs May,15

Outstanding Writing For A Daytime Drama Series

Katie visits the hospital room where Storm shot himself. As Storm reappeared to Katie as a ghost, Katie ripped into her brother for taking his own life to save hers.

The dialogue was blistering as was Tom's performance. As a matter of fact, the whole episode was stellar as everyone gathered at the Forrester mansion to say goodbye to Storm. Tom was breathtaking in her eulogy to her brother. The scene where she showed everyone her scar was so powerful and heartbreaking. No one even comes close to nabbing this award from her. Tom has found a killer Emmy reel.

Lang, Duffy, Gareis were all in top form.

Thus far, B&B has been the best soap of 2008, and the future looks promising as Donna's long lost son made his presence known at the mansion.

I missed the May 15 episode of B&B...I hear Heather Tom nailed it with the eulogy & showing her scar but, again, not hearing much about it here so wasn't too sure about its impact...I guess I'll hope to catch it on YouTube.

But Tom already has the tapes for next year...the writers can send her away for the rest of year and she still would be a threat to win. That is highly unlikely since a Nick-Katie pairing seems to be in the works giving Tom more material to bite into.

Does she get to submit 4 tapes (since B&B runs 30 mins)? I ask because I do think it might be wise to consider a tape that contrasts the material she has right now.

Actually, I didn't think the eulogy scenes lived up to the hype. Tom was good in the episode, but I didn't think it was a sure fire Emmy-winning tape like Michael Logan said.

Heather Tom has been nothing short of brilliant in the Storm's suicide story. She is definatly the frontrunner for the 09 Emmy. Unlike Kathy Brier (who was the frontrunner in 07 but not nom this yr.), Tom has the advantage of being recognized more because she has been nom for every role she has played in daytime.
She should go w/5/16 as one of her tapes for sure. Just watch it on CBS.com and when edited down she is the one to beat.

Just caught up on six episodes of DAYS (and about a week and a half of B&B), and I wanted to cite some stuff that hasn't been mentioned. I thought DAYS had a great week, especially Sami and EJ.

Days of our Lives
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
Best Actress
Alison Sweeney - Sami DiMera

Sami attempts to visit Lucas in prison, but he refuses to see her. He sends her an e-mail telling her that he'll always love her but she should move on. Later, she tries not to get emotional with EJ when he wants to comfort her.

Thursday, May 15, 2008
Best Actor
James Scott - EJ DiMera

EJ rebuffs Nicole's persistent advances in the sauna, then later at home reassures Sami that nothing happened. The two finally discuss the night Johnny was conceived, when EJ raped Sami.

Friday, May 16, 2008
Best Actress
Alison Sweeney - Sami DiMera

During another late-night tiff, EJ and Sami get word that the efforts to get Lucas out of jail were not successful. Sami lets herself lean on EJ, then becomes irritated thinking about his relationship with Nicole. EJ says he will keep things professional with Nicole is Sami has feelings for him. She stakes her claim and kisses him.

I really enjoyed watching these two play off each other and Arianne Zuker's Nicole all week. Nicole's presence is forcing Sami to realize the feelings she has for EJ, which she'd been understandably denying. Each episode seemed to peel away a layer of their strange dynamic and get closer to its core. Sweeney's best moments of the week came during Sami's most conflicted moments, when she is trying to balance her love for Lucas against what she feels for EJ. She moved beautifully among anger, passion, sadness, and confusion all week. Scott was great on Thursday when EJ sincerely apologized for forcing himself on Sami, explaining his twisted thought process and realizing how wrong he was.

One Life To Live

Outstanding Drama Series: This was an outstanding episode! As Adrianna and Rex prepare to marry, Gigi interupts the wedding and announces she loves Rex. Adrianna punches her. Meanwhile David Vickers plays mind games with Jarred and blackmails him with the secret that he knows Jarred is not a real Buchanan. Blair reacts to Todd pushing starr down the stairs and learns that Starr is pregnant. At the last minuet Gigi is stunned to see Brody Lovett, her presumed dead Marine boyfriend alive and well.

Outstanding Writing In A Drama Series

Outstanding Younger Actress (maybe supporting--not sure about her age): Melissa Fumero as Adrianna Cramer--- MF was great as Adrianna is enraged and punches Gigi. The tender scene in which Adrianna asks Rex "do you still love me" were amazing. some of the best work she's ever done.

Outstanding Younger Actress: Fara Fath as Gigi Marasco- pure brillance. the last scene where she sees Brody is pure emmy-bait, in the best way possible.

Outstanding Supporting Actor: John Paul Lavosier as Rex Balsom: stunning, wonderful work. Rex admits to Adrianna he isn't sure how he feels about Gigi.

Outstanding Guest Actor: Tuc Watkins as David Vickers: David plays mind games with Jarred and blackmails him.

Outstanding Leading Actress: Kassie De Pavia as Blair Manning. Blair reacts to todd pushing starr down the stairs. Blair learns that starr is pregnant.

Outstanding Supporting Actress: Robin Strasser as Dr. Dorian Lord: Dorian is happy when Gigi attempts to stop the wedding and taunts Viki about someone in her life not being who they seem or claim to be.

Outstanding Younger Actress: Kristen Alderson as Starr Manning: Starr is taken to the hospital after Todd pushes her down the stairs.

outstanding direction in a drama series

outstanding costumes for a drama series---in particular the costumes for the wedding scenes were fantastic.

Congrats to Kathy Griffin on her second consecutive emmy win!

Not some of the best work she's ever done, THE best work she's ever done. I have to pint out I hated this actress a month ago then BAM she just came in and punched me in the mouth. As much as I've despised Adrianna(in a good way) the last few months..she made me tear up a smidge when she faced her paranoia and confronted Gigi an front of everyone telling her, "You've had 6 months to talk about your feelings! Why now?" She was stunning in the scene. Easily the best work of her entire OLTL stint.

Although I don't agree on all the OLTL citations, I definitely agree with this one. She's definitely flourished with better writing, and I'm glad that she'll be going out on a high note.

I rewatched the 5-15-08 B&B episode online and the line "This is where Storm lives now-this is what he looks like" is really good and Tom's acting is Emmy worthy. She has to win.

WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

i think her biggest advantage is that she's on cbs, and we all know what that means with this emmy system

- Outstanding Drama Series
- Outstanding Lead Actor, Darnell Williams
- Outstanding Lead Actress, Debbi Morgan
- Outstanding Writing

Today's AMC was just great. It was Jesse and Angie's wedding, and the vets we love (plus some more) were in attendance. Joe, Ruth, Stuart, Marian, Tad, Krystal, Dixie (ghost), Jake and Julia. Plus Zack, Kendall, Greenlee and Aidan (could have gone without them) were there in addition to Cassandra and Frankie. Ne-Yo performed, and it was beautiful.

This would be a GREAT contrast to one of Williams' & Morgan's submissions from earlier this year. Saying their vows were dramatic but in a subtle way.

One Life To Live

Outstanding Lead Actress: Kassie De Pavia as Blair Manning: Blair stood her ground with Todd and told him to get out of the house and that he was not welcome in their family any longer. Blair promised starr they would be safe. De pavia showed a lot of restraint in these scenes and proved how far she's come as an actress---years ago she would have just screamed the entire time--but she was subtle and effective at the same time. very moving.

Outstanding Writing

Oustanding Supporting Actress: Catherine Hickland as Lindsay Rappaport: Lindsay is confronted by RJ who threatens to spill her secrets if she doesn't date him. Lindsay and Bo grow close and kiss and tell each other they love one another. Lindsay is confronted by Nora when RJ tells her that Lindsay is the one that helped Clint save B.E. Hickland was effective and moving in these scenes---love how she went from sincere and lovey dovey with Bo, to mean snickering and witchy with Nora to desperate and needy with RJ. This tape works because she is able to show her range by interacting with different people and showing different emotions.

Outstanding Younger Actress: Kristen Alderson as Starr Manning: Starr is worried when Todd comes to the house looking for her, she notices the bruise on her arm. She reads Jack a story and wonders out loud what would happen if Todd discovers she is pregnant.

All My Children
Best Supporting Actress- Rebecca Budig as Greenlee Smythe

Greenlee confronts Kendall and Aidan about their one night stand.

Budig was good in this episode though the dialogue could've been stronger and the scenes longer, but finally she was given an oppurtunity to shine.
