June 24:
Brandon Buddy, OLTL
I know he's not a favorite around here, but this episode was Buddy at his best. It covered his character's history which would make it accessible for non-OLTL watchers. I was impressed with his work here. It's nowhere near as good as Brooks's work, but Buddy could score a nod with this episode.

If these are the scenes with Hilary B Smith's Nora, I have to completely agree with you. He was very convincing portraying a greiving, scared, confused kid in a very adult situation. Wanting to sue Starr for custody of his child could give him some some nice material to make a serious run at an Emmy.

--I have to respectfully disagree with the mentions of Brandon Buddy. I still find him completely wooden and boring to watch. He is WAY out of his league with every one of his co-stars.

I think once Cole and Marty reunite, then we'll see whether or not he's truly improved. Those scenes should be very pivotal.

What luck for rulers that men do not think.

Days of our Lives
Best (Supporting?) Actress
Renee Jones - Dr. Lexie Carver
Best Supporting Actor
James Reynolds - Abe Carver

Lexie and Abe react to learning that their son is autistic. Abe is in denial and sort of angry, while Lexie feels their son has been condemned, in a way. Marlena tries to help the pair deal with the news.

Jones and Reynolds played off one another beautifully and played these scenes really well. There was some surprisingly good dialogue, like Abe talking about getting Theo ready in the morning and everything seeming normal and Marlena's mention of losing a child to SIDS. The downside of this is that these two episodes together would make a good reel for either, but using just one or the other would feel like you're only getting half an episode. But Jones especially is great in both. She's been a strong lead actress contender in the past, so I don't know in which category she'll end up.

Days of our Lives
Best Supporting Actress
Arianne Zuker - Nicole Walker

Nicole and Dean Robbins have dinner and discuss some aspects of their past together. Nicole gets upset over the way he treated her.

Arianne Zuker has really been impressing me lately with the depth and range of emotion she's playing for Nicole. Her pain, anger, and disgust all felt so real as she talked about their past. I was at first put off by the scene where Zuker's eyes get teary, but she doesn't actually make any tears. But then I was so taken with her work in the next scene that it didn't even matter. A strong and very believable performance.

- Outstanding Supporting Actress:
Catherine Hickland

Bo proposes to Lindsay after realizing how short life can be. Lindsay can't believe it and all she can think about is RJ's letter that is in Nora's file. She says to him they tried this once, and it didn't work. She also told him she honestly never got over him. In the end she says yes.

This ep just shows Catherine always delivers whether it be fighting Nora, saying goodbye to her daughter, faking a breakdown or confessing on the witness stand. Very nice, traditional soap acting today. None of the big overblown hysterics stars tend to fall into. I'm sure she'll be nominated eventually. She should have three already: 2008 (for 2007 when she confessed to killing Spencer), 2006 (for 2005 when she viewed Jen's body and dealt with her daughter's death) and 2004 (for 2003 when Lindsay accidentally shot Sam). She's going to be an Emmy winner one day.

and if things were fair she would have been nominated at least once for "Capitol".

The Young and the Restless

Best Leading Actor: Christian LeBlanc as Michael Baldwin
Best Supporting Actress: Judith Chapman as Gloria Bardwell

Michael gets surprising information about his father. Michael confronts Gloria on lying about Lowell. Gloria listens in on Nicki's call and gets a surprising proposal from Jeff.

I thought Christian did a great job and his reactions were spot on. His confrontation with Judith was extremely well acted by both actors. Also Judith reacted in classic Gloria fashion to both the phone call and proposal.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Best Supporting Actress
Heather Tom - Katie Logan

Katie finds out that Beth intends to leave L.A. again and confronts her. Beth admits that she's had a series of strokes and is likely experiencing the onset of dementia.

As always, Heather Tom was emoting all over the place in these scenes, and I think the episode is a strong submission for her because I like her so much better outside of her relationship with Nick and the heart transplant drama.

I agree that Tom was great in this episode. Could easily be paired with "This is where Storm lives now, this is what he looks like"

WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

GUIDING LIGHT
Lead Actor - Robert Newman (Josh Lewis)

Robert Newman had a great tape for reel today as Josh confronts Cyrus about sleeping with his wife. In a stairwell, Rev. Lewis gets physical with the Aussie. Needing to vent more anger, he goes to Cross Creek where he rakes Reva's weeds and they have a shouting match. After things calm down, Reva and Josh share a heart to heart and then stumble upon the actors playing them for Reva's movie rehearsing the scene where Josh is furious at Reva for marrying HB. After Josh leaves, he goes to his church for solace, only to have Cassie show up at the church.

The story certainly isn't the best (well, on GL right now it may be) - but Newman certainly delivered.

Days of our Lives
Best Actor
James Scott - EJ DiMera

Sami overhears that EJ has been lying to her and that they are no longer married after all. She confronts him, and he also admits that the whole deportation scare was also a lie. He tries to make her understand and begs her to admit she has feelings for him.

A strong performance from Scott, who is great opposite Alison Sweeney. Love them or hate them as a couple, these two have great chemistry. Scott transition beautifully as EJ starts out calm and collected but eventually becomes desperate for Sami not to shut him out.

On another note, I'd also like to just mention how great the acting in this episode was. I'm not citing them because they didn't have the material for Emmy reels, IMO, but Tamara Braun and Drake Hogestyn were great as Ava convinced John not to look at the disc with his memories on it; Darin Brooks and Roscoe Born were really good as Max and Dean Robbins argued at the pub; and Rachel Melvin, Kristen Renton, and Shelley Hennig were great as Stephanie worried about Max and Morgan worried about her father. Mostly just subtle but good performances. Shelley Hennig is improving by leaps and bounds over how she was a year ago.

Agree with all the DAYS mentions recently (Brooks, Jones, Reynolds, Zuker, Scott, Braun, Renton, Born) all have been doing great.

Also I could not agree more about Shelley Henig...this girl has turned it around in a HUGE way from just a year ago. She has grown alot as an actress and is doing a very decent job with Stephanie Johnson so far this year.

There has been some damn fine acting on DAYS OF OUR LIVES in recent weeks.

GUIDING LIGHT
BEST DRAMA SERIES
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, Daniel Cosgrove

I know Guiding Light is a bit different from the other soaps now, but today's episode was pretty good, dealing with Billy and Ava's wedding. The story was well told and interesting from beginning to end.

Cosgrove was also very effective, showing not only a disappointed Bill finding out Ava's baby isn't is, but also giving her the new "rules" of their marriage towards the end.

Just caught up on GL from last week and was just about to post the same rrussaw. Even though the absurdity of Bill still marrying Ava is just another string in line of Ellen Wheeler/David Kriezman stupidity, the episode, and especially Daniel Cosgrove were standouts on the July 3rd eppy.

One Life to Live:

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
BethAnn Bonner as Talia Sahid, One Life to Live (ABC)

Talia confronts Carlo.

I forgot that this chick got her start on a reality show. She has really grown into this role and has shined. When she was acting off of Thom Christopher, I was beyond impressed. I always could take or leave the character of Talia b/c BethAnn was so good as her and now that she is a character that is rooted into the shows rich history I can't wait to see moreof this actress and if todays performance indicated anything for me is that BethAnn has made her mark and the best is yet to come from this actress.

Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team

Really great dialogue and stories that showed off the talanted ensemble.
