GUIDING LIGHT Drama Series Writing Lead Actress - Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne) Lead Actor - Robert Newman (Joshua Lewis)
The Reva/Josh Cross Creek wedding is on full display as the "Always" movie rehearses the upcoming nuptuals. As Josh & Reva watch more and more of the day they each fondly remember, along with the viewers, they start to wonder why they ever parted in the first place. Kim & Robert, along with the dialouge of todays show were simply put, some of the best work GL has done in a VERY long time!
ONE LIFE TO LIVE Drama Series Lead Actress Erica Sleazak - (Vicky)
As OLTL begins celebrating their 40th anniversary in the corniest way possible, the show finally comes together as cameos by Agnes Nixon and other dearly departed cast members rejuvinate the hour. Sleazak was especially good as Vicky got to visit heaven, again!

July 21 Guiding Light Best Drama Series Best Actress Kim Zimmer Best Actor Robert Newman Best Writing
I know glfan already mentioned this, but it bears repeating. I thought this was one of the best episodes GL has had in a while. Robert Newman was pretty effective as Josh had to examine who and what he wanted in a marriage; however it was Kim Zimmer who really stole the show, embarking on humor, sarcasm, and drama as Reva is forced to relive her and Josh's wedding. The episode on a whole was self-contained, and written brilliantly, and a true treasure to fans of GL who caught Josh and Reva's wedding the first time around.
Outstanding Lead Actress: Robin Strasser(Dorian, One Life to Live.)
I thought Strasser NAILED all of her scenes today. The joy and awe of seeing her beloved Mel perfectly contrasted with her indignant attitude toward him and what she did to Charlie. Then the end of the show, realizing Mel was right and she must try to save Viki, tho she believes it might be too late. Great reel!!
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

Tuesday, Jully 22, 2008 AS THE WORLD TURNS Oustanding Lead Actress Noelle Beck (Lily Snyder) Maura West (Carly Snyder)
Beck & West were terrific today. This wouldnt be the first tape I'd jump to when picking a tape, but it would be a nice compliment tape for either actress. Parker calls his mother a slut and then she realizes he knows about her affair with Holden and they have a conversation. Lily meanwhile tells Lucinda that she tried to kill Carly because Carly slept with Holden, and Carly comes to the door. Carly & Lily have their first one on one since the truth was exposed and both Noelle & Maura were perfect.
I swear somebody at these P&G soaps laid down the law and said "write good soap opera or else you're fired" because Jean P. & David K. have written some of the best stuff of their tenure these past 2 weeks.

and the emmy he got this year should have gone to van hansis or darin brooks. i'm more of a darin brooks fan, but van hansis is REALLY good.
just like jennifer landon is good...but she TOTALLY robbed rachel melvin of her emmy, rachel sooooooo deserved it.

This is the tape Beck should submit. She went through every possible emotion and it felt natural. She has wonderful chemistry with Hubbard and she didn't become too melodramatic like she did during the confrontation scenes. I have not seen too much of her work as Lily, but this was the best episode I've seen.
Can't get on the Maura West train. If I were a new viewer, I'd be behind her, but everything feels like a rehash. I kept flashing back to Molly and Carly after Mike told Molly he slept with Carly. Some of the dialogue was the same.
Thanks for acknowledging this Allan!! You beat me to it.
Kathleen Widdoes was so flawless and her performance was so effortless. Isn't always comforting to see Emma on scene! And she blew me away with her reactions to both dramas going on with her offspring. She was both devasted to see her Meg in dire straight in bed as she recovered from her gun shot wounds and showed utter shock that Meg and Paul are married and she was so subtle in her "acceptance" that it was both sort of hilarious and touching all at once!
Then let's not forget her reaction to when Lucinda revealed Holden's affair with Carly. Brilliant.

Outstanding Lead Actress Michelle Stafford-she was absolutely fantastic today, she owned the scene, she was understated and just rocked in her scenes
Outstanding Lead Actress Melody Thomas Scott
As Nicki realized that David is definitely not the man she married. All his lies were been exposed. She was elegant in her disillusion with him, I felt Nicki's pain as she realized that there was no more 2nd chances for David.
Outstanding Lead Actor Joshua Morrow and Eric Braeden Those two going head to head was good,Josh carried the scene and I could feel his silent pain

Please excuse the tardiness of this post. I'm kind of behind.
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 Days of our Lives Best Younger Actress Shelley Hennig - Stephanie Johnson
Stephanie is upset to learn Max went off to look for his sister without her, and even more upset to find out her father Steve instructed Max to leave her behind.
I never thought I'd see the day when I'd put Shelley Hennig and potentially Emmy-worthy in the same sentence, but boy has she come a long way. Hennig has become so natural and believable in her role, as well as effective at conveying emotion. Seeing her opposite her on-screen parents Steve and Kayla in this episode reminded me that their strange family dynamic is actually pretty interesting and pretty well executed at times. Where a year ago I was calling for her to be fired, I'm now just asking that she have a little less screen time. (Her performances are good, but her and Max's story doesn't nearly make up for the ones that are being neglected right now.)
Outstanding Lead Actress (Maura West, Carly Snyder.)
Outstanding Supporting Actor: Van Hansis (Luke Snyder.)
As several couples pondered their romantic futures, this episode was a throwback to what soaps used to be about. It was not a flashy episode, by any means, but still was spellbinding, IMHO.
West was flawless as she said goodbye to Holden and made him see they could not have a future together, even tho she was obviously torn about her feelings for him.
Hansis was soulful in his discussion about going to the next level with Noah, then showed his frustration with the situation, later evolving into understanding when Noah explained why he wanted to wait. Then the scenes at the pond with Holden and Carly took Hansis to another level. His style is definitely low-key, but yet so effective.
The writing was, yes, subtle, but the consequences of Liberty and Parker's actions will deliver a whole new plot twist in the weeks to come. I thought JP handled both sides of the teen sex issue without being too preachy, yet provided the information that teens should be thinking about before doing the act.

Writing in a Drama Series Directing in a Drama Series Costumes, Hair/Makeup, Art Direction, Editing in a Drama Series
David/Angelo poisons Nikki; The truth comes out about the article- Jack tweaked the article from how Nick wrote it; Amber confronts Phyllis at the gala about her keeping Daniel from her; Jill and Brad find out that a newspaper published that David is a compulsive gambler; Angelo/David and Sabrina are in a car crash; J.T. gets Nikki out of the gala; J.T. and Paul tell Nikki that David Angelo may have killed Ji Min
I'd justify it for Drama Series, but I don't think the voters will vote for Bryton and that little tyke singing. Monday's episode will be better...

Writing in a Drama Series Lead Actor- Michael Park, Maura West Lead Actress- Jon Hensley, Noelle Beck Supporting Actor- Trent Dawson Supporting Actress- Julie Pinson Younger Actor- Mick Hazen Younger Actress- Meredith Hagner
Parker finds out Liberty was a virgin ("Parker, maybe because I'm older than you, it doesn't mean I'm a slut"). Janet finds out that Liberty had sex. Despite attempting to mend their marriage, Lily tells Holden that she is going through with the divorce proceedings. Carly and Jack try to deal with Parker, and Carly's bad decision after another. Holden prays to the man upstairs at church about his failing marriage, and Carly. Carly sees Holden at church ("It makes sense...two sinners looking for forgiveness."). Janet thinks that Parker and Liberty are "doing the lambada" and tells Jack, and Jack tells Janet that she encouraged Liberty to have sex, and Jack wants Janet to "lay down the law with Liberty." Carly wants Holden to get Lily back, but Holden admits only a part of him wants to go back to Lily. Emma wants Lily to fight for her marriage, and that the marriage is "too much to throw away". Next week's previews look promising. Hopefully, Liberty doesn't get pregnant like Lulu or Starr.
(Is it me, or were the church scenes shot by the GL cameramen?)
These two plots (two teens having sex/breakup of a marriage), intertwined with the funny, cute, and romantic lighthearted Henry/Vienna scenes would make a great contrast on an Emmy reel.

GUIDING LIGHT July 24, 2008 Supporting Actor - Daniel Cosgrove - Bill Lewis
Cosgrove was heartbreaking from the very first scene. The transformation from when he was brought back as "jerk Bill Lewis" to Bill Lewis with the soft and tender heart that we all knew existed was back today. And Cosgrove gave another great performance.
Ava, who has been an awful character from day #1, no thanks to Michelle Ray Smith, was (HOLD YOUR BREATH) actually good in Thurs & Fri's show - the actress and the character...The fear and torment on her face...she didn't have to say a word. Then, Cosgrove began to shine as he met his African American baby, confronted Ava, told Vanessa the truth that he thought was real, decided to be a loyal and stand up guy, and then was shocked with the fact that his wife slept with Remy and the baby is his. leading me too...
Friday, July 25, 2008 Supporting Actor - Daniel Cosgrove (Bill Lewis) Supporting Actor - Lawrence St. Victor (Remy Boudreau)
It looks like St. Victor turned 26 in June, so it will depend on his category placement if he can even use todays tape. (I dont think he's nearly strong enough to compete in the S. Actor field, but hes 26 now.) However, he was wonderful as he confronted Bill & Ava about the baby being his own. When he tried to convince Ava that he loves her and they can be a family, it was sweet. That is an honest love. He realized that in his tender conversation with his sister at the end of the show. Mel & Remy scenes are always nice to see, because they're well done with the Bro/Sis chemistry with the 2 actors. Cosgrove was also worthy again in Fri's show.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series Eric Braeden as Victor Newman, The Young and the Restless (CBS)
Victor learns that Sabrina was in a car accident.
Hopefully the third time is the charm for Mr. Braeden. He has been snubbed since his work in 06 and miss out on two Emmy nominations and todays subtle and effective performance is why that the Y&R cast/crew & NATAS should get it right and reward this man w/a nomination.
