January 30, 2008 One Life To Live Hillary B. Smith as Nora Hanen Lead Actress
Robert S. Woods as Bo Buchanan Lead Actor
Bo and Nora begin to argue over Bo still holding a grudge against Nora for cheating on him. Nora asks Bo why he is so willing to forgive everyone else in his life, be he never bothered to try to forgive her for one mistake, therefore ending their marriage.
I really liked these scenes today because it was two great veteran characters talking about past events on the show. Smith is great at the almost-crying aspect, which was perfect today. They are excellent scene partners.
Kudos... I saw this today and thought for sure someone would cite this. These two were sensational in this episode. Smith especially who played a very interesting layer today with a lot of subtext that left me wondering how Nora actually still feels about Bo and what this new relationship with Clint is all about. Very nice call...
For Your Consideration 2009 Outstanding Drama Series The Bold and the Beautiful One Life To Live
January 30, 2008 & January 31, 2008 Supporting Actor Greg Vaughn-Lucky Spencer:General Hospital
I must say Lucky's reaction to what Sam did, watching Jake get kidnapped, and saying nothing, and hiring goons to harass Liz while with the boys was great. Lucky learning the truth from Liz was not what I wanted, but when he asked why she kept it from him, and she said because Sam says she loves you, his reaction was priceless. His sweetness to Sam, then his confrontation was to suprisingly well done. There was nothing that Sam could say to make thing better, ans Lucky knew it. Greg Vaughn did a wonderful job, and deserved to be cited. I am just glad that these moments were not overshadowed by Sonny, and his romp with Claudia, and Sarah Brown's much publicized return.

February 4, 2008 The Bold and the Beautiful Hunter Tylo as Taylor Marone Lead Actress
Taylor is furious that Brooke won't marry Ridge right there in her living room. She accuses Brooke of having feelings for Nick and baby Jack. In the end, she picks up a glass of wine and sarcastically toasts Brooke, but doesn't drink it, instead smashing it against the wall and ordering Brooke out of her house
How much fun is crazy, on-the-edge Taylor? Tylo is doing some of the best work of her career lately, and today was no different. She's going just far enough with the hysterics, without overdoing it. The end with her smashing the glass on the wall and screaming at Brooke and Ridge to leave was great. -------------------------------------------- February 4, 2008 One Life To Live Robin Strasser as Dorian Lord Lead Actress
Dorian continues her efforts to blackmail Jared into giving his father a chance or she will blow his Buchanan scam wide open. She finally convinces Jared to go to her house to see Charlie, and they are shocked to find Viki there with Charlie.
Strasser was really good in the scenes with John Brotherton today. Dorian is never better than when she's trying to stick it to Viki, and Strasser seems to enjoy her story right now. I laughed pretty hard when Dorian told Jared she could buy and sell him.
Tuesday, February 5, 2008 Days of our Lives Best Drama Series
As John tries to complete his mission and kill Colleen, she reveals that she's his mother and tells the sad story of how she lost him as a boy. Victor plays hardball with Crawford Decker to get Chelsea off the hook for her involvement in Ford's death. Steve and Kayla tell Bo that he has a serious illness.
I know that technically nothing about this episode says Emmy, really, but I was so surprised at how effective it felt to me. I was actually moved by Colleen's story of losing John, and I was stunned that the whole thing didn't come off pretty cheesy, with the whole mission angle. The character connections (like Steve and Hope's conversation, and Victor talking to both Bo and Phillip) and the use of actual history weaved together with the rewritten story of John's past were both excellent. It was very smart of them to be clear that Victor, and not Shawn, is actually Bo's father so it was clear that Belle and Shawn are still not related. This whole thing could have come off as ridiculous, but I think it was very well executed.

Tuesday Feb 5,2008 Outstanding Hair/Makeup for a Drama Series DAYS OF OUR LIVES Shirley Jones(Colleen Brady) OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS
WOW, was this Shirley Partridge?? Kudos to the DAYS hair and makeup team for doing a wonderful transformation on Shirley Jone's Colleen. Jones was virtually unrecognizable in the role.
And on the acting side, Jones was mesmerizing as Colleen was confronted by John, the son she lost so many years ago.
Jones hit all the right notes and her Irish accent was on the money. She never broke character and the look on her face when she was held at knifepoint by her son was terrifying.
This was a great casting choice and Jones, if she sticks around for a few more episodes, could easily become a strong candidate for DAYS in the Supporting Actress race.
On a side note, how great was it to see John Aniston's Victor back. That man was born to play that role, and as usual, Victor took control of the Decker situation in one easy swoop. Aniston is a commanding figure on screen and its apparent he hasn't lost his touch.

Best Supporting Actor-Hunt Block (Lee Ramsey)- Ramsey plays mind games with Todd Manning to convince him to kill Gigi and Shane. I think Block is more at ease with the role of Ramsey. He conveys the dark humour very well, while keep the character grounded.
Outstanding Supporting Actress: Sarah Brown as Claidua Zaccarah: Claudia calls a meeting of the five famalies and tells Trevor to lay off Johnny. Claudia and Carly meet for the first time. Brown's work was subtle and layered; she is making Claudia into a full-fledged character and is doing wonders.
Outstanding Supporting Actress: Kelly Monaco as Sam McCall Sam awakes from her trauma to find Elizabeth at her bed-side, she freaks out and tells Elizabeth to leave. Lucky comes and doesn't believe her story she is hurt that Lucky doesn't believe her.

I totally agree-Block is doing wonders in this role--so much so that i didn't even realize until this week that it was him playing the role--i was like "i know that man looks familiar"... and i looked it up and was just stunned it was the same man that was so wooden and stiff on ATWT.
Congrats to Kathy Griffin on her second consecutive emmy win!

Outstanding Directing In A Drama Series: Mostly for the last sequence with Blair singing to Jack and Todd coming into the warehouse as Ramsey is about to shoot Gigi and Shane. It was magical and moving...
Outstanding Writing In A Drama Series: Rex questions Gigi about Shane. Alison takes Nat and Jess to Lainview to prepare for the big secret she is keeping. Ramsey plans his shooting of Gigi and Shane as Todd and John each try to stop him. Jack asks Todd and Blair if Todd gave him away when he was a baby. Todd and Blair reassure him that he will never give jack away again.
Congrats to Kathy Griffin on her second consecutive emmy win!

Outstanding Younger Actress and Outstanding suppporting Actor: (February 11 GH)
I'm going to add Kirsten Storms (Maxie) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) for the February 11 episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL, even though they've been excellent together since the pairing started.
Comedy doesn't get much notice but their ying/yang during the stake out and then Spin's fantasy sequence does deserve a mention, IMO. Spin's dialogue is impossible, but Anderson has a knack for pulling it off. Storms never misses a beat at playing the wounded "bad blonde one", Maxie, who is completely oblivious to the effect she is having on Spinelli. This could be the start of a major couple, if the writing is there for them.

Monday, Feb 11,2008 Signy Coleman(Hope, Y&R) Outstanding Supporting Actress
In just one single episode, Coleman restamped her claim on the role she originated with a heartbreaking performance as Hope and Victor discuss her impending death.
Coleman plays this part to perfection. I have never seen any actress portray a blind person as vividly as Coleman. Never one to overact, her performances are always raw and real.
I can easily see her becoming next year's Genie Francis with just a handful of episodes. And i'm sure the best is yet to come.
Rebecca Herbst as Elizabeth Webber Outstanding Supporting Actress: Elizabeth is shocked to learn that Nikolas was also on the road the night Sam was hit.
Herbst showed remarkable restraint with this scene and proved why she's been such a favorite of GH writers for years.
Congrats to Kathy Griffin on her second consecutive emmy win!

Outstanding Supporting Actress: Kathy Brier as Marcie Walsh McBain Marcy and Micheal discuss her impending arriagnment and Micheal urges her to plead not guilty. Marcie is not sure what to say when he asks if she feels she has anything to live for. This was tour de force acting imho, she hit every beat perfectly.
Outstanding Supporting Actor: Chris Stack as Michael McBain : Stack was the perfect compainon for Brier in these amazing scenes.
-Outstanding Writing In A Drama Series: The episode was pretty well written--it wasn't a fancy speical effects laden episode, but it was a simple, genunie episode with lots of emotion. Rex questioned Gigi about Shane, Ramsey was stopped by Todd from shooting Gigi and Shane, Todd and Ramsey were arressted, Marcie and Micheal discussed her impending arraginment and Jess and Nattie deal with Alison Perkins.
-Outstanding Drama Series
-Outstanding Lighting: they seem to have had the exact right lighting for each specifc scene--the dark lighting for the shoot-out scenes, the intense lighting during the jess/natt/aliison scenes and so on and so forth.
Congrats to Kathy Griffin on her second consecutive emmy win!

Generic Mention -Outstanding Supporting Actress -Sonya Eddy as Ephiphany Johnson, RN on General Hospital
I know this is unusual for this thread, but i want to give a more generic mention of GH's Sonya Eddy, i can't name a particular episode but she seems to be doing outstanding work lately as Nurse Ephiphany. as Ephiphany reels from the death of her son Stan (although had it happened on-screen it may have been more satisfying) she has done great work.
And while i'll never accept Epiphany as a replacement for Amy she has been doing good work.

Jonathan held Alan at gunpoint. Pelphrey's voice is great whe he is playing really angry.
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

Wed. February 13, 2008 GUIDING LIGHT Drama Series Writing Tom Pelphry - Younger Actor Ron Rains - Lead Actor
Today was a highlight for GL, who is been having an above average Sweeps month this year. Today's eppy was fraught with real emotion, real character, plot points being revealed, kids galore, and incredible acting.
Alan breaks into Jonathan and Lizzies room and holds baby Sarah. Later, at the Bauer cabin, Alan tries to kidnap baby Sarah from Jonathan, but when Lizzie realizes what is going on she stops as nothing to keep Sarah away from Jonathan.
Meanwhile, Beth & Rick name their newly born daughter Bernadette Bauer as Josh begins to doubt whether he can do the baptism or not, knowing that Bernadette is really Alan Spaulding's daughter. Josh asks Steven Rutledge to do the ceremony, but still agrees to be the babies got father, along with Cassie, who is having a tough time of her own with Will. Just as the baptism gets underway, Alan enters the church followed by Lizzie and Jonathan, who is packing a gun. Alan takes the gun from Jonathan in a fit of rage as Reva runs infront of Jonathan to block Alan from shooting her son and tells him it doesnt have to end like this. Alan screams he has nothing in the world to live for and Reva, trying to protect her son, tells Alan he does, that the baby Beth is holding is really his and not Ricks!
It was an exciting day and Ron Rains & Tom Pelphry were at the top of their games, along with everyone else. There was also a touching scene with a phone message between Reva & Jonathan. Kim & Tom's chemistry even trancends through a phone line.

I thought this episode was well-paced and written and agree, glfan. I was also shocked to see the Bauer kitchen set, albeit a bit different. Raines and Pelphrey were on fire and Zimmer was excellent in the few scenes given. Let's hope Kreizman took the time off during the strike to do some long-term plotting and get this once-great show back on track.
