I find it interesting that under a few other threads, Sharon Case is
pidgeonhold into supporting when she was and still is a lead this year.
I hope Emmyloser is correct and Case goes for lead. She should.
It is deserved. Never has the character of Sharon Newman-Abbott been
more annoying, yet fascinating than this year. Running true to form, the
former Mrs. Newman-Abbott was in the triple crown for dumbest decisions ever.
The character is second only to B&B's Brooke Logan in making some of the
most brainless decisions in all of soapdom. The sufferring blond batted out
one moronic move after another untill she crashed head first into the valley
of sex, lies, and emotional delirium. And Sharon Case has never been more
spellbinding.

Often this past year, as well as years past, the character was hard to take.
The weight of constantly trying to take the higher road and that tiara of
magnanimity always resulted in her making disasterous life choices and made me
yell "fool!". In the hands of a lesser actress the character would
be a total soap cliche, but Sharon Case makes her viable. That was never better
demonstated than this year when the sum of her choices caused her to spiral
into the cracker factory. Even when the character was an emotional wreck, Case
always played her at the top of her intelligence. She hit notes that
would make Streisand sweat. No eppy this past year better demonstrates my point
than ( I think it was February )the one where she's full of **** and vinegar storms
over to Phyllis' with the intent of a s s ripping but ends up having a meltdown
and stealing from her! Case's arc and many transistions in that eppy were nothing
short of brilliance personified. She wore six pack of crazy as if it were Dior.
She is most def on my personal list of lead actress pics. The character was a pain
to endure on screen but Sharon Case was an absolute joy to watch.

Sharon Case supporting actress? She supported no one this year. She drove a major
storyline and in the process drove others crazy and herself bat s h i t crazy.
The writing sometimes fell apart but never the actress. Sharon Case made a strong
case for a lead actress emmy and I say good show. sohappy

Berlin2002 - You are absolutely right about Sharon Case. She is a fantastic actress and she always delivers. I love how they are staying true to form with the character over the recent "loss" of her child.

When Sharon and Nick lost Cassie it was Nick who had the big break down that essentially cost him his marriage, while Sharon was seen as the one who held things together and tried her best to move on without going over the deep end which is what Nick did. And once again it is the same reaction we are getting given recent circumstances. Nick seems to be torn into pieces while Sharon is looking ahead and moving forward.

I also have to agree that credit needs to be given to the actress. I have read on many other soap board where people make it a daily routine to HATE on the character but it does say something about the quality of work the actress delivers to have made the character still so popular even though the character Sharon remains one of the most love to hate characters of daytime television.

Yeah, Case has always been a great actress playing a sometimes annoying character, but she ALWAYS delivers.

If indeed, there are 3 pre-nom slots next year in each category, i say this is how the Lead/Supporting race should go.

LEAD

Case, Stafford and Scott

SUPPORTING

Maitland, Davidson and Walton

Interesting again because I see Walton
as the third Y&R lead on the ballot :

1.) Case
2.) Stafford
3.) Walton
4.) Wright
5.) possibly LoCicero

and as much as I love MTS ( and I swear by her ) I would relegate
to supporting.

As of now :

1.) Cast
2.) Hadduck
3.) Maitland
4.) Lozano
all absolute OWN the supporting actress category.

But I do believe Case deserves a huge bump for lead. She was at the
top of her game this year.

The only Case she needs is a suitcase and passport taking that one way flight out of Genoa City! Sorry Berlin but I'm tired of the character. Sharon Case is a good actress, but the character has been written as a joke for years. I think it's time she high tailed out of town (NO Cameron Kirsten's!) for a year or two. There's no progression with Sharon, just one retread story after the next. Hell, I feel like that for a lot of characters these days.

What luck for rulers that men do not think.

Actually, after thinking about it, Scott really didn't do too much this year, so i would bump Eileen Davidson up to Lead because if the big reveal (her baby being switched) happens by years end, she will have killer tapes.

Then, Tricia Cast can take over one of the Supporting slots.

I love Melody Thomas Scott, and it sucks that now that the silly pre-nom system is done with, she barely has any tapes to choose from.

I see Case as either or. And I agree w/u Berlin. No matter what garbage these writers has thrown at the character pre and post Cassie's death, Case has been a pro and selling it.

And your lineup for Supporting Actress is near perfection. all of those actresses must make it!

Agreed Berlin. Sharon Case may be my top choice of lead actresses from Y&R for the year, based on the stuff she did in the first half of the year. She was consistently great with material that was hard to play. Sharon Abbott's been driving me crazy for most of the year, but Sharon Case has been great.

In terms of placing others, I think Case should be joined by Stafford for lead actress contention. If there's a prenom system for three (and it looks like there won't be), I'd go with MTS as the third. She's really the other lead on the show, though she hasn't had quite as much this year as some of actresses on this show and others.

Walton, Cooper, Haiduk, Maitland, Cast, and Davidson can all fight over supporting spots, and frankly, I don't even know who I'd pick. Walton and Haiduk are probably my top two, with maybe Cast and Maitland going for the third slot?

the bad thing about walton is that she gets all her stuff in the first half and starts dying down in the last half, which is cause for concern, she may hold out of submitting yet again.

and when it comes to y&r, i dont think the voting change changes much, people that didnt support y&r before are not gonna support case or walton because they're available. stafford and cooper still, unless cooper does the right thing and pulls out, will be the ones that get in. the other shows are a difference maker with their submissions. and case was snubbed before. stafford i dont recall ever being snubbed after a prenom.

I really don't understand the people who are questioning my sanity. I'm a sane person attempting to deal with an insane situation the only way that I know how. What is insane about attempting to prevent the further abuse, exploitation, and possible suicide of a mentally ill friend? What is insane about fighting for my Constitutional rights, which I have been denied? Why should a mad scientologist be allowed to violate federal law at will (obstruction of correspondence) and conduct psychological experimentation on an uninformed test subject (my friend)? Why should a sitting judge be allowed to use his court to further scientology instead of ruling based on accepted law and practice? (These are all rhetorical questions, by the way).
