GL's Phillip's death (just tragic in what had become of that once-great man. It was tragic because Phillip unravelled not over a few months but over several years. By the time he was murdered, it was organic and inevitable).
The problem with this question is that 1)people tend to not stay dead and 2) we usually think of the immediate.
For example, Cassie (YR), Storm (BB), and Tammy all happened relatively recently. I am not dissin' those picks, just wondering if they will hold up under history.
I am trying to think of deaths I thought were just sob-fests. Mostly when children, babies die. The problem is for the non-children deaths is that many were not really, really, really dead. I agree with most of everyone's submissions (save Jennifer Munson on ATWT--or maybe you meant her aunt Jennifer, Barbara's sister?).

And what ever happened to Hilary Edson? I just loved her---ah, Vincent, you got in during the last heyday of Guiding Light.

I really loved Hilary Edson.
Chuck722, I actually started watching GL after I saw the 1994 Emmys when they had 11 Actors nominated and took 3 acting prizes (Zaslow, Deas and Hayden) + Directing. I was like "this show has soooo many actors nominated and it's winning like crazy. Let's check it out." And the rest, my friend, is history.

This storyline would bring Emmys to AMC in 1998 for Drama Series, Writing and Supporting Actress (Julia Barr, being the first - and to this day - only actress to have 2 Supporting Actress Daytime Emmys). It would be AMC's last win in all of these categories.

one of the best ever... i'll never forget the guilt Brooke felt because she and Maria switched tickets or the horror on brooke's face when she saw Maria roll away down the cliff and couldn't do anything to save her... The look of pain on Edmund's face during the weeks and months that he mourned Maria---the dramatic funeral when Julia came out of hiding (and witness protection) to be with her family. Isabella Santo's moruning her daughter and Maeto deeply saddened at loosing his sister... it was one of AMC's finest moments until the ruined it by having Maria turn up alive as Maureen Goorman and destroying any chance of happiness with Edmund that Brooke had.

Mona Kane on "all my children"---Susan Lucci gave one of her career defining performances in that story and Erica Kane had a life altering moment, loosing her mother and realizing how poorly she had treated her poor mother,
to me the worst death of all-time was AMC's Dixie, the most recent time--it was insulting and horrible.

OLTL: Baby Brenden...Kassie Depaiva was totally heartbreaking during this storyline..and she was 7 or 8 months pregnant in real life at the time too. All the characters involved were thrilling to watch...Blair,Patrick,Todd, and Marty. All the performers were great in every scene.

To me this is one story in which Gina Tognoni really shined. When Kelly admitted to Drew it was her that hit Blair, when Kelly finally came clean to Blair and the resulting feud that followed... It was a great story.

Oh, I was just going to post that my choice was Cindy on AMC. I thought this storyline was so incredibly well-written. So touching, so tragic. Just beautifully done.
