So as we all know by now Lifetime Achievment is going to Seasame Street this year. am i the only one that's a bit upset that once again no soap opera person is being honored for life achievement? in what very may be the last televisied emmy ceremony daytime ever has and the life achievement award is not going to a single soap actor, producer or executive? why?

why couldn't the emmy's honor soap opera legends?

And this brings up another question---a few years ago Jeanne Cooper won a lifetime achievement award. so how is she still eligable to compete in the competitive awards? don't most award shows have a rule stating that life achievement recipients cannot compete again? Shouldn't winning Lifetime Achievement basically rule you out of competing for the compeitive awards? what are your thoughts?

I do believe some sort of board that votes on the Lifetime Achievement Award winner. Seasame Street was named long before the telecast issues even came up. Daytime Emmy's are not just about the soaps. I am fine with it being honored because it deserves it.

In regards to Jeanne Cooper, there is obviously no rule about still submitting yourself in competitive categories after a Lifetime Achievement Award. I think we normally don't see many Lifetime Achievement Award reciepents receiving competitive Emmy's because they are typically at the end of their careers. Oprah received her's like 10 years ago and still could submit her name for Talk Show/Host but she choose to take her name out of the running after the Lifetime Achievement Award, of course she had won some before unlike Cooper.

here's the thing though---it seems like Seasame Street gets some sort of honor every year---either an Anniversary celebration and now this... it's odd, okay yes it's a good show but it shouldn't get speical mentions every year.

and nobody else has an issue with the daytime emmys never honoring soap people in the life achievement awards? (or at least not on a regular basis)?

A lifetime achievement award recipient can still compete in the regular categories. This has happened at the Oscars (Paul Newman, Peter O'Toole), SAG Awards (Ruby Dee) and Daytime Emmys (Jeanne Cooper, Regis Philbin).

The Daytime Emmys recognize excellence in many fields besides soap operas: talk shows, game shows, animation, children's programming. So it's perfectly understandable that the lifetime achievement award can not be given to people from soap operas every single year. Also, don't forget that in 2004 they honored ten soap veterans.

Yeah, they did but the Emmys treated them like they just escaped from the nursing home. They just trotted them out on stage, all ten of them, at the same time. They showed no clips of their work, didn't let them hold their Emmy, and were not given the oppurtunity to say a single word. A real honoring if there ever was one.

well said glofish... and the fact is that soap people don't seem to get honored with a life achievment award more than once every decade! and yet seasme street and talk show people seem to get it every single year!
