Let me say I only saw this because I feel the need to support Lauren Graham's career... and her sarcastic line readings were the best thing in the movie... but this film was just embarrassing and so unbelievable that I would even call it ridiclous. Diane Keaton's character is so unpleasant, her actions so questionable and her performance so over the top that it often makes the film near unwatchable. Oh, and the two scenes of Diane and her daughters singing, and dammit dwasn't one such horrific scene enough, were both cruel and unusual.

Wonderfully stylish (like a lost Sidney Lumet film from the 1970s) with terrific performances from Jake Gyllenhaal and especially an Oscar worthy Robert Downey Jr. Overlong and you feel it but a near masterpiece on a technical level (cinematography, editing, sound design, etc) so it is almost must see viewing for movie fans.
2) "Black Snake Moan" Grade: B
Dirty as hell and crazy as a sh*thouse rat but ridiculously entertaining. Hilarious (maybe not always intentionally), strange, sexy fun for those with a taste for the unusual. Will have a great future as a midnight movie classic. Christina Ricci ad especially Samuel L. Jackson are very good here in difficult scenes that if played wrong would be beyond ludicrous.

Added Zodiac (A). The first great film of the year. My review is in the "What Film Have You Seen Today" thread.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)

Oh Kams; i couldnt agree more with both your ratings...the only consolation for me was that i didnt have to purchase these tickets. The theatres i went to were PACKED for both of these "films"; I dont want to offend the fans though since a packed theatre is better than an empty one, i guess....
