My guess would be:

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
"The Dark Knight"
"The Reader"- even though it's not very good work and "Hellboy 2" would be a much better choice.

Mark my words, these will be the nominees for Best Makeup:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (aging of the main characters)
The Dark Knight (the joker's face)
Tropic Thunder (just look at a photo of robert downey jr. in that movie!)

*The Reader could be a spoiler, but I wouldn't count on it.

2010 Oscars FYC:

Lead Actor - Joseph Gordon-Levitt, (500) Days of Summer
Lead Actress - Meryl Streep, Julie & Julia
Supporting Actor - Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds
Supporting Actress - Mo'Nique, Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire
Original Screenplay - Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, (500) Days of Summer

I'm going to agree with you on this one. This list looks about right.

Few movies have ever had an Oscar sewed up like Benjamin Button has this one.

Not always right, but no fool either

You sound like a Variety headline:

"Button sews up Oscar"

(if you read Variety, you'll understand)

Remember Heath Ledger's make up though...

*Hellboy 2

Any others would be random knowing that Roommates was nominated one year so who really knows what they will do

I think it will play out like this.....

1. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
2. “Tropic Thunder”
3. “The Dark Knight” (There wasn't much makeup in here, but it might grab the last nomination. If not TDK, I see Hellboy taking it.)
Sp: “Hellboy II: The Golden Army”

Make-up artist magazine just did a piece on Oscar contenders, and Hellboy 2's work is absolutely astonishing, reminiscent of Pan's Labyrinth 2 years ago.

They also showcased Tropic Thunder and Benjamin Buttons... both excellent as well. I think and hope these will be the three nominees.

I'm surprised Prince Caspian didn't at least make the bake-off.

Here's an interesting piece from CBS News about the transformation of Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
