Best Actor: Morgan Freeman (Invictus)
Best Actress: Gabourey Sidibe (Precious)
Supporting Actor: Anthony Mackie (Hurt Locker)- Darkhorse
Supporting Actress: Mo'Nique (Precious)

From my understanding the have been Black actors nominated in three acting categories

2007 Ceremony: Best Actor (Smith, Whitaker) Supporting Actress (Hudson), Supporting Actor (Murphy, Hounsou)

2005 Ceremony: Best Actor (Foxx, Cheadle), Supporting Actress (Okonedo), Supporting Actor (Foxx, Freeman)

What are people's thoughts on this becoming a reality?

Haven't seen the other ones yet, but Anthony Mackie isn't getting a Supporting nod for The Hurt Locker. Easily five better candidates there now.

Also, this. I was talking to a publicist at another screening, and she mentioned that people seem to be skittish about viewing The Messenger because of that bias against Iraq war pics. But that once they get in and watch it, they are swayed.

Although that doesn't seem to be affecting The Hurt Locker at all. You'd think folks would want to get in and see it just to see Woody Harrelson or Samantha Morton. I know they both have their fans in Hollywood.

Dunno. I just mostly hope that whatever happens to the film that Ben Foster gets a Best Actor nomination. He so completely deserves it.

So I guess the Geena Davis movie Happy Accidents(or is it Accidents Happen?) is not coming out this year? Does it, or did it ever, have a distributor?

Unfortunately Accidents Happen won't be coming out this year, but I heard it will be coming out next year! I am dying to see this film too! Hopefully Geena Davis will be able to build up some buzz for a Best Actress nomination for next year! She is said to be fantastic in her strong role!

DISCLAIMER/VERIFICATION
I have seen ALL of these films except: Inglorious Bastards, The Soloist, Moon, 500 Days of Summer, Public Enemies, Coraline, Avatar, Transformers, The Proposal, Sherlock Holmes and most of the stuff in the "Out of It" categories

My decision to include them is based on my own critical opinion and/or the opinion of others I trust. Nothing else. I shall flesh it out during the Oscar season, as I continue to see more films.

Not always right, but no fool either

The LA Times yesterday had a Sony Classics ad touting most of their Oscar contending films.

They did not list - when they had to pay real money to do so - The Damned United.

That means they are going to have a minimal campaign for it, and as a result, few members will bother watching the DVD.

Anyone can make a thread, then PM one of the mods to ask that it get front-listed.

It's good protocal to let the one who has been doing it get first crack at it, but Pux already said he didn't want to.
