DISCLAIMER/VERIFICATION I have seen ALL of these films except: Inglorious Bastards, The Soloist, Moon, Crazy Heart, The Stoning of Soraya M., Coraline, Avatar, Broken Embraces, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Transformers, The Proposal, Sherlock Holmes and most of the stuff in the "Out of It" categories
My decision to include them is based on my own critical opinion and/or the opinion of others I trust. Nothing else. I shall flesh it out during the Oscar season, as I continue to see more films.

For those wondering, 'Mother and Child' now has a distributor. No word yet on release dates.
Per Variety:
Sony picks up 'Mother and Child' Studio nabs rights to Rodrigo Garcia's drama By SHARON SWART Sony Pictures Classics has picked up U.S. rights to Rodrigo Garcia's "Mother and Child," starring Annette Bening, Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson. Film bowed as a gala preem at the Toronto fest in September.
Garcia wrote and directed the pic, which is centered around three women and the choices they've made concerning children. Filmmaker previously helmed "Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her" and "Nine Lives."
Garcia's producing partner Julie Lynn produced along with Lisa Maria Falcone. Helmer Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu exec produced.
"Mother" is the first pic financed via Falcone's shingle Everest Entertainment, which will donate a share of its profits from the film to charities providing services and support for women and children.
Lynn previously produced "The Jane Austen Book Club," which also was released by Sony Classics.
WestEnd Films is handling foreign sales on the film at AFM this week.
According to the SAG Awards website, submissions for this year's awards closed on October 28. So the studios and various consultants have decided where to submit (and ultimately campaign) the actors in their films.
Will we find out soon the category placements for Marion Cotillard and especially Christopher Plummer? Of course the Oscars can surprise us by putting performers where they belong despite their campaigns (Keisha Castle Hughes, Kate Winslet). However, in most cases the voters follow the studios' suggestions and the award season's trends (Philip Seymour Hoffman, Casey Affleck, Cate Blanchett, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jamie Foxx).
Thanks for asking me first. But whatever. You and your flawed logic can have fun.

You were asked to do it, and said you wanted to wait until December - what did MicheBel do wrong?
bocaboy7 Posted November 01, 2009 01:23 PM Hide Post Puxz, can you start a November thread since it's November now?
puxzkkx fight for the future of film Posted November 01, 2009 04:26 PM Hide Post Argh... can I wait until LAFCA, NYFCC and NBR give their awards out? It is so close and it will change the face of the race...
What I was planning to do was keep the current thread open for another two months. The last thread was open for about five months so this shouldn't have been a big deal.
If MicheBel felt strongly that there should be a November thread, she should have PMed me and asked my permission to make a thread. I would have said no, but that's not the point.
If Boomer had written to me and asked me to make a November thread, or if I had seen that the October thread had been closed, I would have made a November thread on the spot.
What is really obnoxious is that MicheBel did not even wait until I was online again. This happened while I was asleep, and I did not have a say in the matter.

Regardless, I will make a December-March thread on the first of that month, that I will regularly update with each precursor award announcement. I'll let MicheBel have her, ahem, day in the sun.

Several weeks ago we renamed your thread to just cover October and asked for you to provide monthly threads from that point forward. When this month started, I thought you would go ahead and start the new thread. If you want to start the November one, I'll close this one and let you take back over.
But I beg you to please make these monthly because there will be tons of comments and updates. A thread covering more than one month is not possible from October through February.
An Education, Last Station, Broken Embraces, Moon, Whatever Works, Coco Before Chanel, Damned United, Imaginarium of Dr. Parnissus. White Ribbon, The Prophet, several docs, other FL films, and I might be forgetting one or two.
They have Mother and Child now, Get Low and what the critics who I usually track with think is the best film of this year - Wild Herbs - for starters for 2010 in the US.

I'm excited for it, but considering Resnais' recent track record I'm not convinced it'll be the best of the year.
Boomer, you can let this one stand and I'll make the December one. It'll be easier for me anyway, seeing as not much has changed since October.
Sorry about the fuss~

I think that since the 70s he's been incredibly hit & miss. Lots of interesting ideas at play but he never seems to tie them together very well. Pas sur la bouche is especially terrible.

Not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask, but who has seen A Single Man??? Is it Best Picture worthy? I hear buzz for Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, but what about the other supporting performances, like Nicholas Hoult (who might I mention, just like Dev Patel last year, is an alum from the UK series SKINS!) I was just curious about this film b/c I saw the unique trailer for it on youtube the other day and was wondering if this film would be a major contender...or more something like Far From Heaven with just a handful of nods and one or two major ones?
