If you have been reading the "Wall-E for Best Picture" thread, you know that I have brought this up, but what if the oscars go for 5 nominees in the animated feature catagory instead of the normal 3 nominees?
So far, these seem to be the frontrunners for Animated Feature:
Wall-E Kung Fu Panda Waltz For Bashir Horton Hears A Who The Tale of Despereaux
So what do you think, is the animated feature category already made up to be these 5 animated films?

During the WALL*E showing, I saw the trailer for a little Disney film called Bolt. Yes, it stars John Travolta and Miley Cyrus; still, I could not stop cracking up during the entire preview. If the film is anything like the trailer was, I'd say that we may have two Disney films on our shortlist.
My Early Early Oscar Predictions:
PICTURE: Revolutionary Road DIRECTOR: David Fincher, Curious Case of Benjamin Button ACTOR: Leonardo DiCaprio, Revolutionary Road or Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon ACTRESS: Meryl Streep, Doubt or Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road SUPPORTING ACTOR: Heath Ledger, Dark Knight or Robert Downey, Jr., The Soloist SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Amy Adams, Doubt, or Penelope Cruz, Vicky Cristina Barcelona ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Burn After Reading or Milk ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: Frost/Nixon, Doubt, or Benjamin Button ANIMATED FEATURE: Wall.E

I saw that trailer too and I really liked it! IDK, I haven't seen Waltz For Bashir (I don't even know what it is) so I would replace that with Bolt. For now.

But also remember, it's Disney. Recently, they've had a tendencies to make awesome trailers and crappy films. Let's hope that isn't the case, because Bolt's concept really sounds hysterical.

moviefan61794 - Waltz For Bashir is the Israeli animated film that got rave reviews at Cannes. This is the synopsis of the film from it's website: One night at a bar, an old friend tells director Ari Folman about a recurring nightmare in which he is chased by 26 vicious dogs. Every night, the same number of beasts. The two men conclude that there’s a connection to their Israeli Army mission in the first Lebanon War of the early eighties. Ari is surprised that he can’t remember a thing anymore about that period of his life. Intrigued by this riddle, he decides to meet and interview old friends and comrades around the world. He needs to discover the truth about that time and about himself. As Ari delves deeper and deeper into the mystery, his memory begins to creep up in surreal images ….

Isn't the number of films in this category determined on the total number of animated films released during the year? Are there enough eligible films this year to warrant 5 nominees?
I think there were more animated films last year, and even then we didn't have enough for 5. I suspect it will still be three nominees this year.
The category can't have five nominees unless there's a requisite number of films in the running for consideration. If there's at least eight films in the running but less than sixteen, then there will only be three nominees. If there's more than sixteen films in contention, then the category can have five nominees, which has only happened in 2002 so far.

Let's take a look at the films' chances: Fly Me to the Moon looks absolutely ridiculous, with animation worse than Hoodwinked. Then there's Space Chimps, which may be the Over the Hedge of this year, with decent reviews, good audience turn-out, but no nomination. Madagascar 2 will have to be pretty good; only one sequel, Shrek 2, has been nominated, and even that was no always a sure thing. The Clone Wars will be a nice theatrical event at best; I don't see the Academy taking notice.
Bolt had a very funny trailer, one that the audience I was part of just could not get over. Then there are interesting projects like Waltz (the first animated documentary?), Despereaux (Gary Ross got Seabiscuit nominated, for crying out loud), and Coraline is a popular young adult novel that should provide some awesome source material.
Here are my top seven list:
Bolt Coraline Horton Hears a Who Kung Fu Panda Tale of Despereaux Wall*E Waltz for Bashir
And here are my three nominees, if the list remains as so:
Tale of Despereaux Wall*E Waltz for Bashir
With maybe Kung Fu Pana slipping in.
My Early Early Oscar Predictions:

Man, I have no problem agreeing. What I am afraid of is that the film will be so hyped and applauded, that Academy voters may be tired of hearing about it. Dreamgirls comes to mind for some reason... except that I actually enjoyedWall*E.
