The biggest snubs that I can think of right now are:
Naomi Watts- Mulholland Drive Sean Astin- The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Matt Damon- The Talented Mr. Ripley Joan Allen- The Upside of Anger Jim Carrey- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind/The Truman Show Paul Giamatti- Sideways/American Splendor Christian Bale- American Psycho/Rescue Dawn Uma Thurman- Kill Bill Vol 1/2 Sally Hawkins- Happy-Go-Lucky Evan Rachel Wood- Thirteen Angelina Jolie- A Mighty Heart (much better perf than 'Changeling') Gael Garcia Bernal (any number of films- 'The Motorcycle Diaries', 'Bad Education', 'Amores Perros', 'Y tu mama tambien', 'Babel'...how has he eluded Oscar???) Gwyneth Paltrow- The Talented Mr. Ripley/Proof Vera Farmiga- Nothing But The Truth/The Departed (but more towards 'NBTT') Dakota Fanning- I Am Sam/The Secret Life of Bees Leslie Mann- Knocked Up (I know this was a mainstream raunchy-type comedy, but she was a knockout) Reese Witherspoon- Election Cameron Diaz- Vanilla Sky
These are performances I can't believe were missed by Oscar. I'm sure I can think of even more...

Lena Olin in "Chocolat" I'm not sure she exactly deserved a nomination and was one of the top 5 that year, but if they were going to single out one of the supporting gals from "Chocolat" for an oscar nom, it should have been Olin who was much much better.
I loved his performance, it's his most subtle and complex role yet. He handles it so delicately, it gets better with multiple viewings like Viggo Mortensen in 'A History of Violence'.

Though Jolie didn't make my personal top 5 during that year, I would have been more okay with a nomination for A Mighty Heart rather than Changeling [and I think that Changeling was the better film]
That year, Jolie should have been included over Blanchett's hammy performance and this year, the vice versa with Cate for Benjamin Button over Jolie's histrionics in Changeling.

Funny because this is only one of the few times [probably Mean Girls being the other] that Lohan delivered a good performance. Doesn't mean she should be nommed for an Oscar though.

Definitely. It is his best performance and one of the best performances of this decade.
It is a 'showy performance' but it also has subtle depths, especially in the way Bana illuminates this man's public and private personas and turns him into a character simultaneously hilarious, tragic, scary and pathetic. The performance gives fresh and true insight into the real-life person being played, which is a rare feat in biopic films.

Please dont worry about Chopper. I know people loved it but his performance to me wasnt that good. As a comediene (which he was originally) he would have known how to mimic people which he does in Chopper. He will never be nominated .......
