Here is a sneak preview of Nine from Entertainment Tonight starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Stacey "Fergie" Ferguson, and Sophia Loren. *Sorry for the kinda crappy quality.* - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oanYFKBsOzE

Yes! Very much looking forward to seeing The Road. Thanks bocaboy.
You're welcome. But I'll give my opinion of this trailer for The Road. It seems more along the lines of I Am Legend and The Day After Tomorrow than an Oscar-worthy film, despite it's great cast and book from Cormac McCarthy. I think we could see it pop up big time in the technicals, but as for any major categories, we can totally nix out any ideas for that. And apparently, they are going to market this film as more of an "action film" to get more of an audience... So maybe it's "Hello MTV Movie Awards, Goodbye Oscar..."

I think you are right. They seem to like Viggo, so there is a glimmer of hope. Also, John Hillcoat directed The Proposition, which, gave me nightmares but is a remarkable film and visually stunning. There's also the great cast. It has promise.
But none of those are the reason why, I'm looking forward to it.

Considering Hillcoat's films and the actuall story of the book, I don't think the film will go towards an "action epic" direction. In my opinion, this is a case of the studio not knowing how to sell this.

All I said is that I read that they will be promoting this film like an "action epic" film. I never said that the film was initially shot like an "action epic" film...

gawd bocay...I Robot and The Day After the Day Before Tomorrow? I've read both The Road and the I Robot series. Both of them are fantastic reads. The films, um, not the same vision. I think Hillcoat can turn out something with much more depth and artistry than those two films. Just how do they market this one? Good question. I'm doing a pre-cringe now but I hope I am wrong.

It's ok babypook! But I'm sure they are great reads. I have not read any of them, but Cormac McCarthy is a fantastic writer, and The Road topped many various Top 10 lists of Best Books. But I'm just questioning how a film like this would be considered an Oscar nominee.
It's like War of The Worlds. Great book, and Steven Spielberg directed the film. Tom Cruise starred in it with Dakota Fanning and Tim Robbins. Just by the sound of it, the film seems Oscar worthy, but it just wasn't. Just because Spielberg directed the film doesn't mean that it was Oscar worthy. And just because The Road is a adapted from Cormac McCarthy's book and stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron doesn't mean that it's Oscar worthy either... Get what I'm saying? Both of the films are similar in a sense that they are action/somewhat-disaster films, and in the end, the only nominations that they will get are in the technicals...

Yes; thanks boca. Still, McCarthy's adaptations have done well at Oscar. Viggo has a nomination. Charlize, of course, has won. And it's Hillcoat and Pearce pairing up again. The score has Nick Cave , and Javier Aguirresarobe (sp?) who's work on VCB I loved.
What I'm hoping for: Best Actor nom Best Screenplay adaptation Best Cinematography Best Editing Best Supporting (Guy Pearce. Kodi Smit-McPhee)
Besides, despite the negative bias towards this genre, it wasnt that long ago that the Academy loved, another cannibal. Lol.

Babypook, only one of McCarthy's adaptations have done well. And it's great that Hillcoat and Pierce are teaming up again, but it's not like The Proposition was all that successful of a film. Also, in all honesty, keep on hoping for those nominations! If The Road does get a major nomination, it would most likely be for Adapted Screenplay, but that would be based pretty much on the fact that it's an adaptation for a McCarthy novel. But I highly doubt it because this year's Adapted Screenplay category will be heavily heavily competitive as many of the films that will be released this year will be adaptations.
Also as a side note, early screening reviews have not been all that great. A few months ago, Nathaniel from The Film Experience saw the film and said he was disappointed...

Wow. Loving the trailers that have been posted as of late. Nine looks like a tremendous spectacle, even though some of the set pieces don't necessarily make sense to me during the energetically-edited spot. Daniel Day-Lewis might be able to pull off the musical lead Actor nomination that Richard Gere couldn't. Expect this to be the double Supporting Actress nominee film if any.
The Road definitely has an I Am Legend ring to it, though I think it may have an Art Direction Oscar nomination waiting in the wings. Theron's role has definitely been expanded, and as long as it holds up, I'm in full support of it.
Surprisingly enough, I am most excited about Sherlock Holmes at the moment. Not since Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels have I been more ready to see a Guy Ritchie film; Downey Jr. and Law seem to share some witty banter. Downey Jr. might even get the Comedy Actor Globe nomination that he didn't get with Iron Man.
---- OSCAR FYC: Best Picture - "Up" Best Actor - Michael Stuhlbarg, "A Serious Man" Best Actress - Saoirse Ronan, "Lovely Bones" Best Supporting Actor - Christoph Waltz, "Basterds" Best Original Screenplay - "Up"
