That Shutter Island trailer is incoherent as f***. Does Scorsese actually have a story to tell? Because that annoyingly noisy assemblage of random images doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I smell a stinker.

I find DiCaprio's accent distracting and he seems extremely miscast in this movie.
This year's Emmys, give some love for The Shield

Yeah, I had a feeling Shutter Island might be like this. This just doesn't seem like the Scorsese we are used to. It actually seems more like a horror movie... I have a feeling that it may be too much of a procedural/thriller for Oscar voters... I don't know really. Maybe we have to see the final product to make a final decision on this, but I can tell ya that I just switched around my predictions a bit...

While I'm not psyched about Shutter Island, and think that DiCaprio may be a few years young for the part, I will wait to see the film before I throw his Best Actor campaign out the window. I wasn't that stoked about The Departed either... until I saw it. Now its one of my favorite crime thrillers to-date.
I also hope that Mark Ruffalo actually gets a baity scene or two here. He's good at playing an everyman, but seems to be playing on the same level time and time again. I hope he gets some material that lets him step it up a notch.

I think that if Ruffalo were to have a somewhat baity scene, then maybe a portion of that would have been shown in the trailer. I don't know about you, but I really didn't see anything "baity" about Ruffalo at all... in fact, was he even in the trailer at all for more than like 5 seconds?

I just realized that I forgot to give my take on the teaser trailer for Accidents Happen. Let me say first off that that was one of the best teasers I've ever seen! I'm glad this film is getting the attention that it deserves as the teaser has been sweeping the movie blogs in the past couple of days! I really hope that this film will get a lot of people to go see it when it comes out. I've been predicting for months now for a Best Actress nomination for Geena Davis after great reviews, most notably from Tribeca. The cinematography looks really really great in the trailer too! One of the blog posts said that "if this had debuted during the Super Bowl, it would have been the trailer people talked about," and I think they're right! I can't wait to see this film! It looks awesome!

As someone who has read the novel for Shutter Island, I have tons of faith in what Martin Scorsese's doing. The novel isn't incoherent at all. In fact, it's one of the tightest plotted thrillers I've ever read. I recognized every image from the trailer, so it looks like they're sticking very closely to source material (which is a very good thing). Trust me, you don't want the plot of this movie ruined. It may not be Oscar material, but it's gonna be a great, great thriller w/ an emotional punch. Leo looks a little young for the part, but that's my only quibble. Oh, and also, Ruffalo has a much, much bigger role than what the trailer would lead you to believe. He's basically the second lead.
