Oscar Nominations are blessing and a curse for actors. They get a lot of attention for being nominated and get on a short A list for a few years following a nomination or win.
While some make good choices or get offered good parts some have to take the parts they are offered to make a living and end up in one bad film after the other. If a documentary was going to be made with Oscar Winners and Nominees "Where Are They Now" who do you think the 10 - 20 actors/actresses featured should be?

Karen Black's career after Nashville fell off considerably, not in terms of number of films but in quality. She's been in more stinkers and crappy films than any other actress over the last 30 or so years.
To be fair to Linda Hunt, her appearance severely limits the number and diversity of the films she can do
PRIMETIME EMMYS Congratulations to Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Mary Louise Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kathryn Joosten and Michael C. Hall on their noms BOOOO to the snubs of... Elizabeth Perkins, Marcia Cross, David Scwhimmer, and Peter O'Toole
The following are successful films and/or worthy performances by these supposed one hit wonders after their Oscars:
[quote]Louise Fletcher Best Actress Winner
Flowers in the Attic, Brainstorm
Cuba Gooding Jr. Best Supporting Actor Winner
As Good as It Gets, What Dreams May Come, Pearl Harbor, The Fighting Temptations, American Gangster
Tatum O'Neal Best Supporting Actress Winner
Bad News Bears, Little Darlings, Basquiat
Ronee Blakeley Best Supporting Actress Nominee
The Driver, Nightmare on Elm Street
Susan Tyrell Best Supporting Actress Nominee
Islands in the Stream, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, 9/30/55, Tapeheads, Cry-Baby
Candy Clark Best Supporting Actress Nominee
The Man Who Fell to Earth, Handle With Care, At Close Range, Radioland Murders, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Zodiac
Jaye Davidson Best Supporting Actor Nominee
Stargate
Karen Black Best Supporting Actress Nominee She has - literally - 158 credits since 5 Easy Pieces.
Cisco Pike, The Great Gatsby,Day of the Locust, Nashville, Family Plot, Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean
Mira Sorvino Best Supporting Actress Winner
Beautiful Girls, Summer of Sam
Kathleen Turner Best Actress Nominee
Accidental Tourist, War of the Roses, Serial Mom
Linda Hunt Best Supporting Actress Winner
The Bostonians, Dune, Silverado, Kindergarten Cop, Ready to Wear, Stranger Than Fiction
Ali Macgraw Best Actress Nominee
The Getaway, Convoy
Bottom line: Jaye Davidson you can sort of make a case for. The rest capitalized on their nominations wins, appeared in prominent and/or good films, have sustained careers almost certainly improved by their recognition. In the case of several of these (Kathleen Turner, Candy Clark, Karen Black) I'd be happy to argue the best work came after the nominations.

Kathleen Turner is a very successful stage actress now in both New York and London. She's been nominated for Tonys since her Oscar win and has won an Olivier, London's top theatre prize, which is rare for American actors.

Sorry to say it, but I'm expecting Jennifer Hudson's name to appear on this list in the years to come. True, you can throw Sex and The City's #1 ranking opening weekend in my face, but that had nothing to do with her; she just happened to hop onto the TV-to-film extravaganza train.
My Early Early Oscar Predictions:
PICTURE: Revolutionary Road DIRECTOR: David Fincher, Curious Case of Benjamin Button ACTOR: Leonardo DiCaprio, Revolutionary Road or Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon ACTRESS: Meryl Streep, Doubt or Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road SUPPORTING ACTOR: Heath Ledger, Dark Knight or Robert Downey, Jr., The Soloist SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Amy Adams, Doubt, or Penelope Cruz, Vicky Cristina Barcelona ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Burn After Reading or Milk ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: Frost/Nixon, Doubt, or Benjamin Button ANIMATED FEATURE: Wall.E

I disagree even if they have only had one oscar nomination/win someone people go on for a steady career

I luv J.Hud, she's got some killer pipes, but baby girl really needs some acting lessons. She gave the worst performance in Sex & The City and the latest clip of her and Dakota Fanning in The Secret Life of Bees, doesn't look so promising either. I really want her to succeed because I like her talent and personality.
I know she had The Sopranos, but Lorraine Bracco's film career completely collapsed after she got nominated for GoodFellas. She turned down roles in Fearless and My Cousin Vinny (which earned Perez an Oscar nomination and of course Tomei an Oscar). Instead she starred in such classics as Medicine Man, Traces of Red, Radio Flyer, and Even Cowgirls Get the Blues! She also turned down the role of Carmela Soprano in favor of playing Dr. Melfi which judging by the amount of awards trophies Carmela won over Melfi, wasnt a great idea either!

Emmys FYC: Lead Actress Comedy Please view the actual tape submissions and reward for quality...
...Not because of buzz ...Not because the nominee has 3 other Emmy noms ...Not 'cause the nominee is a writer so this would be great after the writer's strike ...Not because the nominee starred in a movie this spring.
Please view the actual tape and reward for QUALITY.
Okay Jennifer Hudson has had one film come out since she won the Oscar, why not cut her a break and wait until maybe she has like 5 come out.
Michelle Williams is working on some high profile projects right now and one of them is a Scorsese film in which she has a great role, don't count out this very talented actress.
Felicity Huffman just needs to find the right project. I have a feeling once she is done with Desperate Housewives she will start doing alot more quality films.

Nah. I'm not cutting Jennifer Hudson any breaks. When you're an AR-SCAR winner, all scrutiny is allowed.

Linda Hunt was in several substantial roles since her oscar win with major directors like James Ivory, Lawrence Kasdan, Peter Yates, David Lynch, Robert Altman. She has the leading role in Waiting for the Moon where she played Alice B. Toklas. She seems equally adroit at comedy & drama. She has also had countless voicecover work given her lovely and distinct dulcet tones.
All things considered, she's had a great career.
I think it's too early in fairness to say that Jennifer Hudson will be one hit wonder. Her first two movies have been extremely successful at the box office. Her singer / actress status seems likely to keep her employed for awhile at least.
A few oscar winners that spring to mind that seem to having issues getting good roles that fascinate me are Halle Berry & Roberto Begnini.
I have a feeling that Halle wanted to dominate the cinematic world doing a combo of well received dramatic types actressy parts & block buster films. The blockbuster stuff she's been in post oscar win like Bond & X-Men are hits despite Berry where she's more eye candy. She's had big problems with films like Gothika and Batwoman where on paper they no doubt looked like hits that failed to materialize on screen. Last year, Perfect Stranger & Things We Lost in the Fire didn't seem to help matters.
Begnini has fared aruably the worst of any oscar winner in the past 20 years. Hasn't done anything of distinction since winning in 1997. Has had a major embarrassment,in Pinocchio. I don't recall any other movies being released starring Roberto except for Coffee & Cigarettes where he had a small role.

I think that Things We Lost in the Fire didn't take off with Critics, but I thought it was a great performance from Halle. It was nice to see her do a good drama again. I wish she would do more.

When did Kathleen Turner win an Oscar? She was nominated for Peggy Sue Got Married.
I would add Mercedes Ruehl to the list. What has she been in since she won Best supporting actress for The Fisher King?
