Why is there such a campaign against Sean Penn this year with people calling him a homophobe and now with Mickey Rourke calling him an average actor as well as a Homophobe. I mean its not as if anyone can call Mickey Rourke god's gift to acting?
This campaign against Penn is really starting to bug me.

Well, that's your typical frontrunner/favorite-to-win syndrome. The majority of people still love Sean Penn and his performance, but there will always be a very vocal few out to get him as much negative press so as to detract from the frontrunner and level the playing field. Much like The Dark Knight (not the frontrunner but surely a favorite). The superhero genre is new to the Best Picture game. Thus, you'll have a majority of people who like the film as well as a vocal few who are quick to point out it's flaws.
Once again, please, I implore the responsible adult posters here - do NOT automatically assume the gossip - which easily could be lies - to be accepted as the truth. Shouldn't we be better than that?
There are people out there who are paid big money to stir up the pot and spread nasty stories about potential Oscar contenders. And we shouldn't fall for it so easily.
There's always a backlash against favorites for some reason. Julie Christie made a joke about Alzheimer's disease, and they were nearly crucifying her for it. People are constantly watching for flaws.

I do not want to disappoint our Japanese public, especially Godzilla. Hahaha! I'm just kidding, I know he doesn't care what humans do.
I think it's so funny that Mickey Rourke, allegidly, is going after Sean Penn. If anything this will sway more people to vote for Penn than Rourke because let's face it people route more for the person being put down than the person doing the bullying. Rourke should have just kept his mouth shut. I think it's so funny that a has been actor who hasn't been in a major film in like over 2 decades is saying that Sean Penn isn't a great actor. Oh yeah, sorry if he didn't do a film like "The Wrestler", where basically Rourke was just playing himself, yeah that's really a stretch for him to do. I see this whole thing as damaging Rourke's campaign for the Oscar more than Penn's.
Mickey Rourke was commendably quick to issue an apology when he used a homophobic slur a couple of months ago.
Other than some denials from his rep, why so silent now? If he did not send the text message, then it would seem we need to hear that from Mr Rourke himself, in which case we could put these allegations to rest.
Maybe because both he and Sean Penn hate this whole obscene campaign thing and he doesn't want to dignify it by responding. Sometimes issuing a statement draws more attention to something.
People here acting like it is true of course also does the same thing.
More than anything, this adds to the perception that Mickey Rourke is still a loose cannon, and it'll give those who are uneasy about voting for his work even more reason not to do so, whether this is true or not. It won't take much more before the tide can really shift to someone else.

Well, we know YOU are shaking your head over anything that does not conform to your right-wing views.

With Oscar most things are word of mouth and can't be substantiated. The truth is however whether Mickey Rourke said it or not, the media is reporting it and therefore the damage has been done.

Or actually, it's not funny. It's sad.
But seanflynn Oscar voters read this stuff as well? I would think very few Academy voters actually know Mickey Rourke in order to know whether the statement is true or not.
I hate to say it but recently you have been becoming more and more Rourke and nothing else, you have to admit although he is your personal favorite he has substantial competition from Penn.
