Am I an actor o director?
I was nominated for Oscar for that film?

Well, Meryl Streep's best work may indeed have been for Evil Angels (her only Cannes prize), but it wasn't a little seen film, and I don't recall Jodie Foster saying she Streep should have won.

It was little seen for sure (check the Box Office), and Jodie Foster was expecting Streep's name to be called that night.

Just a lucky guess <g>

I recall though that Foster was the heavy favorite that night.

(Streep won the award in Cannes under the film's title in Europe and most of the world, Evil Angels; known as A Cry in the Dark in the US).

Here goes:

Unless someone comes up with a higher number, I believe the record for most Oscar nominated actors with credited roles in a film (not playing themselves) is 12, achieved twice in two films released within a few months of each other, both of which took place in the same general time frame.

One actor appeared in both films.

Name both films and the actor who appeared in both.

I'm sure there were more than 12 oscar nominees in The Greatest Story Ever Told. Unless you don't count those who are nominated after the film.

It's a tricky designation - I'm not sure how many of these were on for more than a few seconds (John Wayne for example was the soldier at the base of the cross who says "This surely was the son of God.") I'd have to check, but a lot of these were not on the front end credits.

Anyway, in both these 1970s films, the 12 nominees had real roles with more than a line each, although some of them were brief.

I do mean nominated ever, not just prior to these films.

I've been pulling my hair on this one! I thought I might have had it with Around the World in 80 Days then Murder On the Orient Express but couldn't find that second film. I'm probably way off lol.

Again they are two 1970s films released within a few months of each other set in the same general time period.

One of these is often cited among films that have a bunch of winners and nominees, the other one far less so.

I'll be gone until around 10:30 PDT

The lesser known of these films had a supporting nominee in its cast (someone who had recently won)

I am just guessing - Network and Voyage of the Damned? Faye Dunaway starred in both.

For sure Voyage of the Damned is one of them. Lee Grant is the nominee and recent winner (Shampoo from the year before). Now what's the other film? I was thinking The Towering Inferno but after checking imdb it didn't have that many oscar nominess in it.

Hmmmm.......

Was singer Maureen McGovern ever an oscar nominee?

I always thought Murder on the Orient Express had the most nominees, but it always has 11.

Voyage of the Damned is the lesser known film - now you know the time period of the other film as well, and that film is often cited as being one with many Oscar nominees and winners in it.

And since part of the question is that one of the one-time acting nominees in voyage is also in the other film, that should simplify things...

A Bridge too Far?

Denholm Elliot was in both.

Voyage released in December 77, Bridge in June 78.

You also have an uncredited Richard Attenbourough, making it 12 acting nominees and a winning director/producer in the cast.

There are 12 acting nominees in A Bridge Too Far. This does not count Attenborough.

Still looking for who was in both films.
