Among acting Oscar winners, several have had siblings who also had notable film acting careers.

But from what I can determine, this is true of only one supporting actor winner.

I am looking for someone who has or had an independent career, is part of the sound era of films, not someone who might have had a few bit roles (not that I know of any such person).

To complicated this a bit, this actor used a different last name for his film work.

so we're looking for a supporting actor winner who has a brother or a sister that's also a notable actor?

Yes -

Like Sean Penn had a brother who acted (Chris Penn) or Vanessa Redgrave a sister (Lynn), this supporting actor winner has/had a sibling with his/her own successful career, although with a different last name.

Barry Fitzgerald had a brother. Arthur Shields, according to IMDB he has some nice credits in some very high profile movies.

Is that it?

Maybe it was obvious, but I haven't heard of him...

No other brother or sister came close in movie, t.v or Broadway credits.

Arthur Shields absolutely qualifies, and I feel stupid since I am very aware of him and his fine work over years, and yet overlooked him when I said there was only one I could find.

I was thinking of Tom Conway, George Sanders' lookalike older brother, who had a parallel career (primarily an RKO contract player in the 40s, with a major role in Cat People, and then followed his brother as the Falcon in that mystery series).

In any event, you win.

Well if it makes you feel any better I absolutely saw Tom Conway's name when I looked up George Sanders and didn't even bother to consider him...

Since I don't have a really good question like Sean's....

Rank in order, the Top10 youngest Supporting Actor winners. From younger to older. Include each man's age.

SORRY! I completely forgot I had a question here....I've been out all day...

Rank them in order of the age they were when they won...

I mean 1. Tatum O Neil, 2. Anna Paquin, if it were women.

WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

Do you mean nominated in the same category with a costar also nominated for those same films? Or do you mean nominated for films where she had the same costar (which I think has probably happened several times)?

Shirley McLaine? Turning Point and Terms of Endearment?

Is that what the question means?

If I can go again. Name the actress who did that in the supporting category three times (being nominated opposite a costar from the same film).

There is only one actress and one actor who next decade could do what no one has ever managed before. That is to get a leading acting nomination in 5 consecutive decades. Name 'em!
