I love this thread. Even when I almost never get to answer the question, I love playing.

Let's all continue here.

No questions to get this going again, so here goes:

There is something that binds three of the six best actor winners and their films between 1967-1972 together -

Rod Steiger/In the Heat of the Night
Gene Hackman/The French Connection
Marlon Brando/The Godfather

Among best actress winners, the only time I find this same thing happened is

Simone Signoret/Room at the Top

The same thing happened with the films, but not the actor/actress, with these lead acting winners:

Spencer Tracy/Boys Town
Bing Crosby/Going My Way
Shirley MacLaine/Terms of Endearment

This connection has to do with a decision made by the producers and/or studio.

Is it that they all had sequels made?

That is not the answer to the question.

Remember - I said it applied to In the Heat of the Night, The Godfather, The French Connection and their winning leads (as well as Room at the Top), but not to those in Boy's Town, Going My Way or Terms of Endearment

You guys are so close and it is so obvious...
As I said, it involves these winning lead actors and the films and decisions made by the producers/studios and/or the actors.

With what has been guessed already and what I have written, anything additional would be virtually giving the answer away.

Nope, thought I had it for a sec but French Connection threw me off.

I do know all had sequels/follow ups. I thought it was that the Oscar winning performer didn't appear in the sequel in the first 4, but Gene Hackman shot that to hell. hahaha

Sorry, total brain freeze at my end - of course Hackman was in French Connection 2 - Bama Ed had the right answer (as Moviebuff might have as well) - what I was going for is best lead acting winners who did not appear in the sequels -

Bama Ed is eligible to ask a question from yesterday (Chatan never did) - or if he still has none ready, Moviebuff can go ahead - I just wanted this to move forward

(I managed to do what others (not me) thought Moviebuff might have done; how ironic)

The sequel to Room at the Top came 6 years later - Life at the Top, with Laurence Harvey again, but not Simone Signoret

I wanted to say something like the first ones maintained their titles and the others didn't?

but then I looked it up and no..it's not it...

at least you got the "it's so obvious" part right...I thought about it right away, as I'm sure others did too...

Going on faith this is the right answer:

What woman was the last to win the big 4 critics awards (NBR, NY, LA, NSFC), Globe, & BAFTA, but no Oscar?

Bonus, how many consecutive GG noms did she receive?

For a single film, or for a career?
And not that there is another category likely, but are we talking actresses here (it would be a great trick question if it were another category...)

It's not Michelle Pfeiffer/Baker Boys (no GG)

It is Michelle Pfeiffer. She won the Globe. Just not the BAFTA.

Without looking (unless you have already), can you name her consecutive GG noms? How many wins?

seanflynn next question

Without looking her GG noms were for Married to the Mob, Dangerous Liason's, The fabulous baker boys, The Russia House, Frankie and Johnny, Love Field, The age of innocence.

I saw this in one of Tom's articles a few days ago, I believe.

Actually, she had 6 in a row, not 7. One of those does not belong. Which one though? :-)

She didn't win the BAFTA for FBB, but she did win one for Dangerous Liasons, which imo was a great film.
