I SAW UP!!

I got an email today of an invite to see a special screening of Up here in Austin, TX.

I have NEVER had SOOOO MUCH FUN at a movie in the longest time!!! I think it may go down as one of my favorite Pixar movies (not better than Wall-E but better than The Incredibles).

I really don't want to spoil it but I will tell you SEEE THIS MOVIE. I laughed, I cried, my heart raced.

It's perfectly paced and just a thrill from start to finish!!

oh and it was in 2D and not 3D. Which i liked. I don't like how 3D glasses tint the colors of the movie. I recommend watching it in 2D because the colors are magnificent.

Pixar outstands again. This is the clear winner of the Best Animated Feature at the Oscars unless The Princess and the Frog dazzles even more.

How would you say it compares to WALL-E? Does it have a chance of being the best reviewed film of the year?

I don't know about it being declared a masterpiece like Wall-E was. Because it's not that kind of movie. I see it as being one of the best reviewed movies of the year though. It will entertain even the biggest of cynics.

I look forward to this picture in 2-D but will never appreciate any 3-D experience as long as you have to wear those glasses, which makes everything look like a real bad acid trip flashback.

I don't know why, but this film doesn't look all that great to me. Considering what Pixar is capable of, this looks kind of. . . meh.

Believe me. I thought the same thing before watching the movie. I was like this looks like another "Bug's Life" or "Cars". But I was pleasantly surprised. The story is simple, but it has a lot of heart and the gags are awesome. The most fun I've had at the theatre in a LONG time.

OTOH, it's funny to see everyone looking like Cleve Jones.

I thought the same thing when I saw the trailer for "Wall-E". Boy, was I wrong.

You do realize that Pixar is probably saving their best stuff for the film itself?

Oh, and Teen Angst, you're one lucky SOB. Congrats!

I've noticed that Missygal tends to make pretty strong assessments of a film's quality by its trailer. She completely dismissed Duplicity before it opened because the trailer held no interest for her.

This is a real problem overall in the industry -movies for which the flavor and quality can't be condensed into a 90 second preview (and that would include a large number of the greatest films ever made) have judgments made about them that often stick.

I rarely see trailers, and prefer not to let them influence me.

G'Day,

The good news is that the story about an old man emarking on a life-fufilling journey will appeal to academy members more than a sci-fi about a robot or a rat that cooks food.

I'd say that UP! is the only film that we can say with any certaity is going to get both really good reviews and box office (at this stage) this year.

Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series

Umm, EVERYONE judges a film by its trailer—it's called advertising or marketing and that's what it's there for.

Apparently, MissyGal is NOT the only filmgoer who was turned off by Duplicity's trailers.

Of course, many of Duplicity's target audience will wait to see the film on home video and cable TV.

I still think Duplicity was a victim of poor release timing.

All this tension between Pucifer and seanflynn reminds me of that standoff-in-the-house scene in Mr. & Mrs. Smith - and like that scene, it can only culminate in aggressive lovemaking!

LOL.

I will admit that I usually hate Pixar's trailers. I can't think of a single Pixar movie that has produced a trailer I liked. I really thought I was going to HATE The Incredibles. Ratatouille's were utterly meaningless. WALL-E's trailers I thought were a bit cutesy, but they did nothing to prepare me for the actual movie. I have learned to never judge a Pixar film by the trailer.

I am hoping to see this one in 3D and in 2D.

Glad to hear you liked it, Teen Angst. What was the audience reaction? Could you tell?

The audience ate it up. I could tell. The kids were enthralled in the movie because every time they made noise it was about the movie and not that they wanted to go to potty or that they were hungry.

I have been to relatively few movies where the adults laughed just as hard as the kids on the same jokes. It was a real treat.

I'm just sad that we didn't get to see the usual Pixar short or creative end credits. I might go see it again when it comes into theaters.

The thing is, trailers are what get people interested in the film. If a trailer is crappy, no one is going to want to see the film. If the trailer is interesting, people will want to see the film. Why do you think trailers are released? For fun?

For me, the Up trailer lacked a little something, but the reviews will no doubt be strong, so I'll end up seeing this. OK, seanflynn?

No question trailers are important - and I am glad you are suspending judgment on the film until you see it, which is as it should be.

The last trailer I saw myself was The Dark Knight (online).

The last film I saw at a theatre (other than industry screenings) was Letters from Iwo Jima, opening day in LA, so that (apart from Dark Knight online) was the last time I saw a trailer.
