Best Actress in a Leading Role

Anne Hathaway - Rachel Getting Married
Sally Hawkins - Happy Go Lucky!
Angelina Jolie - Changeling
Meryl Streep - Doubt
Kate Winslet - Revolutionary Road

Best Actor in a Leading Role

Leonardo DiCaprio - Revolutionary Road
Frank Langella - Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn - Milk
Brad Pitt - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke - The Wrestler

Everyone looks like a solid bet except for Pitt, who has Eastwood just behind him and might get bumped for him. But for now, I'll go for the big star of the big movie.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role

Amy Adams - Doubt
Penelope Cruz - Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Viola Davis - Doubt
Taraji P. Henson - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Kate Winslet - The Reader

Again, extremely confident about this bunch as well. Henson will manage to squeeze in by a hair over Amy Adams I believe, which will definitely be the #6 left out. Other contenders would be RGM's DeWitt and Winger and longshot Farmiga, but buzz is dying on all of them and I think they'll have to be happy for Hathaway. Cruz, Winslet and Davis are safe bets, and the race is between the three of them. Tomei looks safe for now as well.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role

Josh Brolin - Milk
Robert Downey Jr. - Tropic Thunder
James Franco - Milk
Philip Seymour Hoffman - Doubt
Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight
Dev Patel - Slumdog Millionaire

WINNER PREDICTIONS (VERY EARLY THOUGH)
Kate Winslet
Sean Penn
Penelope Cruz
Heath Ledger

Many of your predictions are already dead. Australia, W and Che have no chance. You should read some reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.

So is KATE WINSLET going lead or supporting for THE READER...

If THE READER goes supporting, does she have a real shot at getting nominated and also winning.

Also, has any seen her performance in REVOLUTIONARY ROAD. If so, is it strong enough for a win?

I really hope KATE wins this year.

as usual, looks like lead actress is shaping up to become a locked 5: streep, winslet, scott-thomas, hathaway, blanchett (if all the performances are as juicy as the roles, i expect this to be one of the best categories in a long time)

I've seen Revolutionary Road, she will have absolutely NO problem getting nominated for it. In terms of her winning it will depend on the field, I haven't seen Doubt/Rachel Getting Married/I've Loved You So Long. I haven't seen 'The Reader' either but I expect if she is wise she will go supporting for it, as there is no way she can claim that for RR. Many of us were surprised the Academy were willing to allow Rachel Weisz go supporting for 'The Constant Gardener' when most critics felt it was a leading performance (including BAFTA) so I don't see why Kate can't move to supporting for 'The Reader'

I wouldn't call Blanchett a lock just yet. Angelina Jolie is still in the race! Think of it as a Brad Pitt "tug-of-war". roflmao

I do not want to disappoint our Japanese public, especially Godzilla. Hahaha! I'm just kidding, I know he doesn't care what humans do.

I'm not too sure about Jolie or Blanchett. Hawkins and Leo are still in the race. Maybe one more slot for the indie ladies. Stunning performance by Leo in Frozen River, but I tend to give my final slot to the true underdog with the less theatrical performance: Sally Hawkins.
