"Jade" did no business in the theatres and "The Last Seduction" played in only a few theatres after premiering on cable so if you are going to use box-office losers (even though "Seduction" is a very good movie) as prime examples of the genre you may have answered your own question.

Good point, but I was just throwing random adult thrillers out there. There have been many successful contemporary adult thrillers (e.g. "The Crying Game").
I just think Hollywood needs to breathe new life into the genre.

There may have been another one released after it, but I guess because it was such a big bomb, the last "adult thriller" I remember was Derailed. I use the terms adult and thriller loosely though for that movie. I never saw it until just a few weeks ago I saw the ending on some cable station not that I needed to since it was obvious from just hearing about the movie how it was going to end similar to how the twist for The Village was pretty easy to figure out from the beginning.
I think she has a nice niche in rom-coms, so I give her credit for that. I just wonder why in the world Jennifer Aniston thought she could play the femme fatale character in that movie. I guess I should be grateful to Brangelina as overexposed as they can be at times in that Aniston would have starred in A Mighty Heart and Atlas Shrugged. {shudder}

Studio movies have a lot less nudity in them they used to have, fear of the dreaded NC-17, and this is a genre that often calls for heavy sexual content. Because of that I think these kind of films have been relegated to late-night cable and straight-to-DVD type releases.

If you're looking for a quality adult thriller, rent this year's "Transsiberian," which plays like the last movie Hitchc0ck never directed.
But from the examples you gave, it sounds like you're talking about thrillers with more of a sexual/erotic component, in which case "Transsiberian" doesn't apply.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)

I agree but it seems like a lot of the bigger names aren't even going after these kind of projects anymore. Remember when, say Sharon Stone, went after all those adult thrillers.
Seems like we don't have actresses like that anymore.
I also think the quality of a lot of the later films pretty much killed this genre. Every genre has crappy movies, but it seemed like the quality adult films were few and far between after the 1990s.
Isn't it a shame that we don't see films like Body Heat anymore? Now that's a good quality adult thriller.
Have you seen Body Heat? Um; this is hands down, and 'adult' thriller. Plus, it's really good all-round. Also, Mickey Rourke has a small but memorable role, and Ted Danson has his real hair here. William Hurt and Kathleen Turner burn up the screen. Richard Crenna is good too. And it's Lawrence Kasdan (I really like him).
Then, there's No Way Out (Roger Donaldson). Have you seen that one? Definitely fits the bill. There are plenty of others but you may be right; that genre is taking a big break. Dont despair though, becuz sex, violence and intrigue just doesnt go out of style...I hope.
I hate to recommend this one, but try Se; jie, by Ang Lee, if you havent seen it. I hated it, but many people didnt, and Wei Tang is exquisite.

Oh, I see you liked Body Heat. Missed that. Glad we agree.

Agreed. I'll probably end up writing an adult thriller one of these days. I just have so many projects going on right now.
Even though L.A. Confidential is technically a film noir, I'd argue that it's also an adult thriller. There's plenty of sex, violence and intrigue in that film.

This film seems tame by "Body Heat" standards. I guess it makes up for its lack of steamy sex scenes with more than its fair share of violence. Nice try, but not really a true representative of the ADULT thriller genre.

That was awful. You wouldn't think from that movie that Michelle Williams would ever be anywhere close to an Oscar nomination. Probably Ewan McGregor's worst work ever.

Lately McGregor hasn't been in anything good in recent years. He needs a new agent, stat! At least Williams has "Wendy & Lucy" and Jackman is hosting this year's Oscars.
This year's Emmys, give some love for The Shield

Here's another one from 1984 which also features Kathleen Turner. It's very Ken Russell-ee but it fits the bill, and I really liked it: Crimes of Passion.
I'm guessing you've seen both The Postman Always Rings Twice. The original one is better, imo (1946).
The Big Easy (1987) doesnt have a lot of direct sexual content, but that scene with Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin is completely HOT.
I too lament the loss of this genre.

Agreed! Today, we have movies made by babies for babies.

I totally forgot about Deception which is understandable I guess considering the quality. I do wonder what happened to poor Ewan McGregor's career though. He seemed on the verge of what Christian Bale has now in doing big movies for money balanced with smaller movies, but his big movies flopped and his recent smaller movies didn't do that well either. This year looks better for him though as he has seven movies set to be released or being made. I Love You Phillip Morris is one of my most anticipated films to see this year. Maybe McGregor and Carrey can finally get their first nominations that they should have gotten awhile ago.
