I guess that matters, but it just seems the type of movie producers -- esp today's producers -- would love to call their own: small modestly budgeted film flies under the radar, becomes unexpected hit, turns industry heads.
I guess The Dark Knight is second most likely based on the way it brought people into theaters this summer. But Slumdog seems the more likely art/commerce compromise that seems to come out on top.
And I guess more obviously the way it's been cleaning up and based on history, you'd have to consider a loss an upset.

Ron Howard and Brian Glazer are best known and best liked.
CCoBB is a major producing achievement.
Milk - that would be a shock.
Dark Knight - for reasons stated above.
Not sure if members all get screeners. Also, and this can't be repeated too often - the large majority of members are TV producers (which, who knows, might help SM).
The "if it loses it's an upset" does make sense, but now that SM is winning the BO battle with CC when it matters, a couple of key losses might make people sit up and wonder, the chatter would be endless here and in the press.
Although since the other picture nominees don't have remotely the same enthusiasm, it just mean that people who don't want the other film to win whichever it is would rally to SM.

Oh, I knew they were private and non-televised. I didn't realize that the results came out that late in Pacific Time. I'm in the East Coast (Boston...lol) so it's already 12:01 am here. Guess I'll have to wait until morning to see the results.
I understand people wanting to have insider only exclusive non-media parties, but these are big awards! There's no privacy in the world today, I want to see what's going on!! LoL
