Just saw this on another site & thought i'd ask the same question here-(don't know if anyone hit on this 1 yet though?)
Apparently at the Toronto Film Fest. there was a standing ovation at the final of "Get Low" & in particular the performances of *Robert Duvall & *Sissy Spacek!
It appears even Ew magazine dropped the ball on this lil' film?
Please reply
THANK YOU

Last I heard, no distributor yet, so more likely as 2010 release (it is unusual, but not unheard of, for a film to be acquired at Toronto and released the same year).
Post questions like this in the appropriate thread. Your tendency to make new threads for every thought that pops into your head smacks of self-absorption of the highest degree.
"Notorious was nice, but it’s not in the color purple range" "Angels and Demons may get nominated for cinematography the imagery was profound" "District Nine will definitely win for best foreign film it made money and everyone loved it" ~ 8movies

Will this even be released this year?
There's no accounting for bad taste dear. Who are these others saying "no way"?
I was at the world premiere where the film received a vigorous standing ovation at Roy Thomson Hall and heard of lots of buzz, talk in movie lines AND have chatted to folks who have now seen this and all comments have been positive particularly for the superlative acting. I'd add Bill Murray's name to Duvall's and Spacek's as potential acting nominees. I also heard this was about to be picked up for US distribution. It's a remarkable feature film debut for Aaron Schneider.

One thing I’m wondering about re Get Low should it receive nominations for Duvall and Spacek whenever in the heck it gets released is the fact that they would join an extremely exclusive group (not that they aren’t already) which is actors with at least 7 acting Oscar nominations.
Actors 1. Jack Nicholson 2. Olivier 3. Spencer Tracy 4. Brando 5. Jack Lemmon 6. Al Pacino 7. Paul Newman 8. Richard Burton 9. Peter O`Toole
Actresses
1. Streep 2. Kate Hepburn 3. Bette Davis 4. Geraldine Page 5. Ingrid Bergman 6. Jane Fonda 7. Greer Garson
Also, the only film I could find where two 6+ nominees were nominated in the same film was Ironweed when Streep & Nicholson and Guess Who’s coming to Dinner (Hepburn & Tracy as well as Bea Richards).
Not sure if there are others, but if not and Bill Murray were also nominated, this would become the 1st film to have two of its stars nominated into the rare 7+ nomination category and a 3rd star getting a repeat nomination. And interesting considering the 1st time director Aaron Schneider.
Also, we would have the 3 nominees from 2001's In the Bedroom back at it within the decade (Wilkinson was 1st with Michael Clayton & Tomei next with The Wrestler).
We would also have Duvall & Spacek achieve the rare feat (especially for woman) of being nominated in 4 (or more) different decades. I think the only women to do this are all quite legendary - remaining as cinematic icons & benefitting from the heightened press that comes with a nomination across many generations - Hepburn, Bette Davis, Streep, Page, Joanne Woodward, Shirley Maclaine, Maggie Smith, Vanessa Redgrave, Julie Christie and Diane Keaton.
Which in light of seanflynn`s comment about properly positioning this in terms of release and marketing might benefit the picture, instead of rushing a release, in order to capitalize on the above. Although I heard it might be a summer 2010 release. Wondering if that risks the film being forgotten come Oscar time. Didn’t seem to hurt Away From Her which also had its world premiere at TIFF, played at Sundance, Berlin, etc. then was released in May 07… and Christie was a leading contender for best actress up until Oscar night.

I don't know whether there are other cases, but you already mentioned one film that has accomplished the feat you describe. "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" received another acting nomination for Cecil Kellaway. It was his second nomination after 1948's "The Luck of the Irish".
Well Done! I guess that makes Dinner the winner in this regard then, since Get Low couldn't catch it unless Lucas Black also snuck in (he's good, but opposite some pretty inconic talent).
Interesting about Cecil is I hadn't even heard of him despite his 2 oscar noms over a 20 year stretch and the fact that he has almost 150 credits on imdb.

Sissy Spacek is one of the few actresses I would love to see win a second Oscar. It already came close in 2001, Now, I'm hoping she'll have another chance.
I hope The Office wins as Best Comedy Series for this year's Emmy Awards.

'The Grass Harp' had it all on paper -- based on a Truman Capote novel, and a top line cast filled with Oscar winners (Spacek, Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, Mary Steenburgen) and former Oscar nominees (Charles Durning, Piper Laurie).
But the film was ultimately shuffled around the release calendar and when it finally saw release, it was the recipient of good, but not blockbuster reviews. Ultimately, the film sank like a stone at the box office.
This one feels the same way to me -- a top drawer cast, but a little too slight, a touch too twee.
I predict 'Get Low' will have a tough time breaking through the clutter.

Except it already seemed to break through the clutter at the 350+ picture TIFF. What's twee? Did you mean wee? Fortunatey there's no weeing in the picture.

I don't actually like all of her work that much, but she definitley is an actress who seems like she should be called a "Two Time Oscar-Winner".
I would have loved for her to win an oscar for "Nine Lives". Spacek is such an honest actress.

twee [twee] Show IPA , –adjective Chiefly British. affectedly dainty or quaint: twee writing about furry little creatures.
