Over the years there have been many performances in the thriller/horror genre that have been overlooked or unnoticed with major critic and major award nominations. Yes i know the horror genre is in a league of it's own..but there have been performances that were superb and really moved the movie along. So lets have some fun and post who we think good enough to snag some major award nominations.

For me Jobeth Williams in "Poltergiest" was phenomenal. That woman made me laugh and made me tear up with her powerfully charged performance.

Ellie Cornell and Danielle Harris in "Halloween 4" were sensational. Both were natural and dramatic in there performances.

I think Mia Farrow should totally have been nominated for "Rosemary's Baby"!

I TOTALLY agree with this!! My first reaction when I saw the thread was JoBeth Williams for Poltergeist....a performance that I think is severely underrated....but in that particular year, she would've had to sit place 3rd on my list behind Meryl Streep and Jessica Lange.

I also agree with Fritz on Mia Farrow as well.

Even the Academy of Horror didnt recognize Williams as Best Actress. They gave it to Karen Allen for Raiders Of The Lost Ark. That was a gross thing to do. I am appalled at that.

But don't look back in anger, I heard you say...

While we're talking about thrillers, I still think it's unfortunate how overlooked Robert Downey Jr was for Zodiac.

Having said that, Warner Bros shouldn't have pushed it to a Spring 2007 release either.

I have always been high on Jamie Lee Curtis. The "Scream Queen" was 20 years old, and apparently not considered for a 1978 best-actress nomination for Halloween. It's too bad that film didn't garner an original-screenplay nomination. It was an excellent film, and Curtis was perfect in it.

I remember Olivia de Havilland being quite effective when cast against type in "Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte" and the lesser-known "Lady in a Cage."

I would say
*Konstantin Khabensky for Nochnoy Dozor (Nightwatch)
*Cillian Murphy or Noamie Harris for 28 Days Later
*Nicole Kidman for The Hours (I though she was better in this than Moulin Rouge)

On a more serious note, if you are including thrillers, I actually thought Ed Harris was more deserving for A History of Violence than William Hurt.

It made your jaw drop because of how bad it was?

yeah, mia farrow was totally overlooked for rosemary's baby. the movie should've gotten much more love than that. it's the perfect horror movie.

it's curious that i never asked any of you guys about robert downey jr in 'zodiac', because when i saw it with some friends last year they said he should be in contention and my sister really said she thought he was gonna be nominated, but i thought it was nonsense; he was really great in it. one of my favorite movies from last year
