Jack Nicholson should have gotten an Oscar nomination for "The Shining."
And though miscast, I seem to be one of the few who though Shelley Duvall was great as well, particularly in her reaction to the whole axe-coming-through-the-bathroom-door scene.

Yes Troy they were both awesome in The Shining. Also..as u mentioned in that other thread..Piper Laurie for "Carrie". I would include Spacek for the same movie too. Those women blew me away.

I know this is an oddball choice and I am probably the only one who knows this film, but there is a DTV 80's slasher flick called "Hide and Go Shriek" about a group of teens who break into a furniture store to spend the night and get picked off by a killer. It's an odd movie, particularly because of who the killer is, and it is one of the better 80's slasher flick rip-offs, but nothing great.
However, the lead girl who plays Bonnie, I feel, gives a great performance....looked it up on IMDB and her name is Rebunkah Jones. She was incredible at displaying fear and gives one of the best "freaked out" performances I have seen in one of these types of films. I am surprised she never did anything else....
Anyone else see this flick?

I agree 100%, but only that nomination. Shelley Duval was good in the beginning of the film but once the film got going she was in waaaaaaay over her head.
Jack made her look like an amateur.
I suppose he should have beaten out Jack Lemmon that year for the nomination. Been a long time since I've seen 'Tribute' and I can barely remember it; Which speaks volumes.
Blanchett/WinsletFan....have you (or anyone else on here) ever seen the DTV low-budget flick "October Moon?"? Like a gay "Fatal Attraction." Very good....I liked it.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Courteney Cox in Scream 2. One of the most entertaining performances I've seen in a long time, and easily one of the best I've ever seen in the slasher genre.
Emmy FYC: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures Of Old Christine
Here are some of my favorite performances and characters in the horror genre (most of these aren't overlooked, just my favorites):
-Jeremy Irons as "Beverly and Elliot Mantle" in Dead Ringers. Moment of Truth Quote (as Elliot): "I've often thought that there should be beauty contests for the insides of bodies."
-Bruce Campbell as "Ash" in the Evil Dead trilogy. Moment of Truth Quote: "Ok you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick! The 12-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?"
-Jack Nicholson as "Jack Torrance" in The Shining. Moment of Truth Quote: "Here's Johnny!"
-George C. Scott as "John Russel" in the Changeling. Moment of Truth Quote: "I saw what happened. And I believe it was Richard Carmichael, your father... who murdered the boy, his natural son, Joseph Carmichael. And then there's a substitution from the Sacred Heart Orphanage, the boy was taken to Europe... cured miraculously... returned... to inherit an empire. That changeling was you."
-Mia Farrow as "Rosemary Woodhouse" in Rosemary's baby. Moment of Truth Quote: "What have you done to him? What have you done to his eyes, you maniacs!"
-Max Von Sydow as "Father Merrin" in The Exorcist. Moment of Truth Quote: "The power of Christ compells you! The power of Christ compells you!"
-Robert Shaw as "Quint" in Jaws. Moment of Truth Quote: "Sometimes that shark he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin'."
-Gary Oldman as "Count Dracula" in Dracula. Moment of Truth Quote: "I am the monster that breathing men would kill. I am Dracula."
-Jeff Goldblum as "The Fly" in The Fly. Moment of Truth Quote: "You have to leave now, and never come back here. Have you ever heard of insect politics? Neither have I. Insects... don't have politics. They're very... brutal. No compassion, no compromise. We can't trust the insect. I'd like to become the first... insect politician. Y'see, I'd like to, but... I'm afraid, uh..."
-Kevin Spacey as "John Doe" in Se7en. Moment of Truth Quote: We see a deadly sin on every street corner, in every home, and we tolerate it. We tolerate it because it's common, it's trivial. We tolerate it morning, noon, and night. Well, not anymore. I'm setting the example. What I've done is going to be puzzled over and studied and followed... forever.
-Jeffrey Combs as "Herbert West" in The Re-Animator. Moment of Truth Quote: "I must say, Dr. Hill, I'm VERY disappointed in you. You steal the secret of life and death, and here you are trysting with a bubble-headed coed. You're not even a second-rate scientist!"
-Sigourney Weaver as "Ripley" in Alien and Aliens. Moment of Truth Quote: "Get away from her you bitch!"
-Sissy Spacek as "Carrie" in Carrie. Moment of Truth Quote:"And the raven was called sin!"
-Anthony Hopkins as "Hannibal Lecter" in Silence of the Lambs. Moment of Truth Quote: "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti."
-Kathy Bates as "Annie Wilkes" in Misery. Moment of Truth Quote: "I am your number one fan. There is nothing to worry about. You are going to be just fine. I am your number one fan."
-Kurt Russel as "R.J. MacReady" in The Thing Moment of Truth Quote: "Why don't we just wait here for a little while... see what happens..."
-Michael Rooker as "Henry" in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Moment of Truth Quote: "If you shoot someone in the head with a .45 every time you kill somebody, it becomes like your fingerprint, see? But if you strangle one, stab another, and one you cut up, and one you don't, then the police don't know what to do. They think you're four different people. What they really want, what makes their job so much easier, is pattern. What they call a modus operandi. That's Latin. Bet you didn't know any Latin, did you kid?"
-James Woods as "Max Renn" in Videodrome. Moment of Truth Quote: "Death to Videodrome. Long live the new flesh!"

Yeah...I enjoyed it if you can get past the low-budget feel of it.
I also think Amy Steel gives a great performance...one of the best in the series...as Ginny in Friday the 13th Part 2. Definitely one of the best "final girls" of any slasher flick.

I agree about Jennifer Carpernter in The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
Along with Kidman for The Others the movie wouldn't have been complete without Fionnula Flanagan. Excellent performance.
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

I really think the Scream series was so smart and well-done. Scream 3 was a little weak, but I'll take it. Having said that (and it's already been mentioned), Laurie Metcalf was FABULOUS in Scream 2.
