By the way, Louise Fletcher is a superb actress.
Bible carting? Why would an atheist carry a bible? Fletcher is a bad actress...a one note johnny.
Not true! In addition to Crowe, I have sung the praises of Ed Norton, Christian Bale, Kate Winslet, Merle Streep, Marion Cortillard, Daniel Day-Lewis, Johnny Depp and many others. I just think there are some fluke Oscar winners.

Film awards hopefuls find their stride 'Juno,' 'Atonement,' 'Blood' bubbling
By PAMELA MCCLINTOCK/Variety
Fox Searchlight's 'Juno' saw box office jump 209% weekend to weekend in the same number of venues.
The awards race has just gotten more exciting -- at least in terms of box office. In a year-end surge, a handful of awards hopefuls found their stride at theaters during the extended holiday frame, including Fox Searchlight's "Juno," which was the fifth highest grossing film of the long New Year's weekend.
Meanwhile, "Atonement" remained strong and "There Will Be Blood" had a great bow on only a few screens, while "The Bucket List," "Persepolis" and "The Orphanage" also had good per-screen averages.
"Juno" saw an estimated three-day weekend gross of $10.6 million and a five-day gross of $15.7 million from 998 runs, according to Rentrak. Cume is $31 million through New Year's Day. Pic registered an impressive weekend-to-weekend bump of 209% on the same theater count.
According to Searchlight topper Peter Rice, the film recorded the best weekend haul ever for a crossover specialty release, besting "Brokeback Mountain," "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Sideways."
"It's playing well all over the country," Rice said. "Two of our highest-grossing theaters are in Ohio and Minneapolis."
Searchlight will add another 900 theaters or so this weekend.
Another specialty title keeping up its momentum is Focus Features' "Atonement," which posted a per-screen average of $10,058 over the weekend, grossing an estimated $3.1 million from 310 runs.
Pic grossed an estimated $4.9 million for the five days; cume is $13 million.
Meanwhile, Paramount Vantage reported strong opening numbers for Paul Thomas Anderson's Daniel Day Lewis starrer "There Will Be Blood."
Film, co-produced by Vantage and Miramax, opened in two theaters in New York and Los Angeles and logged a whammo per-location average of $95,370 -- the highest of 2007 -- as it grossed an estimated $190,739 over the weekend.
Pic's five-day gross is an estimated $297,655; cume is $421,833 in its first seven days. (It opened Dec. 26.)
Vantage distribution topper Rob Schulze said the specialty unit also held sneaks of the movie over the weekend in 14 markets, garnering strong reaction. This weekend, the film will expand to 50 theaters in 10 markets.
Warner Bros. also saw promising numbers for Rob Reiner's Jack Nicholson-Morgan Freeman starrer "The Bucket List," which posted a per-location average of $21,000 over the weekend in grossing an estimated $336,000 from 16 locations. Over the five days, the film -- which goes wide Jan. 11 -- grossed $589,000 for a cume of $884,000. It opened Christmas Day.
Sony Pictures Classics' "Persepolis," which also bowed Christmas Day, posted a per-location average of $13,015 over the weekend in grossing an estimated $91,107 from seven theaters. Five-day gross was an estimated $142,123 for a cume of $217,669.Picturehouse's Spanish horror title "The Orphanage" posted a per-screen average of $12,791 in grossing an estimated $233,323 from 18 theaters in its debut over the weekend. Five-day cume was an estimated $313,771.
Among other specialty holdovers, Paramount Classics and DreamWorks' "The Kite Runner" reported a per-location average of $4,979 in grossing $1.9 million from 377 theaters over the weekend. Pic's estimated five-day gross is $2.9 million for a cume of $6.5 million.
The Coen brothers' "No Country for Old Men" passed the $40 million mark over the weekend, marking the brothers' highest gross to date. The film, in its eighth frame, grossed an estimated $2.2 million from 960 theaters. Five-day take is an estimated $3.4 million; cume is $42.2 million.
Has anyone noticed that P.S I love You is holding up nicely? Are the dollies spreading positive word of mouth I wonder? Come on gals support Hilary even if she didn't come out tops in Iowa!

It definitely is holding up better than I expected- still not sure it shows a profit, but a solid weekend could propel it for a couple more weeks, at least until 27 Dresses opens.
Now that one sounds really awful. But is that the reason it's release is being delayed a week do you think? PS doing better than it's initial grosses would suggest.
I just knew by darling Hilary would conquer them at the box office!

No, I think they think 27 Dresses could be a big hit but they need more word of mouth. You don't sneak a film a second time if you think you don't have the goods.
As opposed to all those poor schlubs out there who find it totally natural and completely normal to be bossed around and controlled by your dead husband?
You startled me for a moment Biff, since of my 9 ex husbands a few are deceased. by the way, happy 30Th birthday. A young pup you are still in your prime as a man! Go get em tiger!

I thought that word of mouth would help "P.S." stick around longer than people thought. Again, the theater I was in loved it and it has received high audience ratings....we will have to see how it does this weekend....

Miss Swank can command the screen when she is playing an outsider but a lovelorn widow, eh. I think the true reason to see this film would be to experience another one of Gerard Butler's genre-hopping performances. In fact, MmeDeMontespan gave an unusual and compelling analysis of his stardom in Film You Watch Today thread...
I think Hilary Swank gets a lot of unfair bashing also. I don't buy the idea that an actress has to be like Meryl Streep and speak in a milion different accents and wear a bunch of different wigs to be great.
Almost every great actor is known for a certain type of acting style. Young Brando had his type he's known for. De Niro is known for gangster/psycho roles and they are the two greatest actors.
I think it is a little unfair and sexist that women in order to be considereed great ahve to pass as a traditional romantic leading lady that apeals to the guys.
So what if HIlary's two great performances have been as you would classify "tomboyish" roles. You know how mnay male actors win awards and praise for similiar outsider or psycho or quirky type roles?
And just because she's only has two great roles and the rest were flops doesn't mean she's not a great actress. Boys Don't Cry was enough to prove her greatness. And that's because of the acting not because it was some masculine role. Please it's not that easy and simple as you make it trust me.
And also she's had a lot of flops and problems apealing to the mass audience? Hello what about Nicole Kidman? I guess she gets a pass because she's girly and can play the weak passive type and was married to Tom Cruise so she's in the tabloids and mass media. But the fact is as an actress Kidman doesn't appeal to the public as much as she would fool you to believe.
And also what's wrong with being a second rate Jodie Foster? lol Someone said that as an insult. It's a compliment to be considered any rate of Jodie Foster she's one of the greatest actresses ever and also doesn't have to be all girly and feminime and play the ingenue roles to be considered a great actress.
If tons of acclaimed actors like De Niro,Hoffman, Johnny Depp dont' do traditional leading man roles and get praised for it, why is it women get criticized for the same thing? If Swank were a man she would be praised for doing quirky, unconventional roles even if it were only two of them. Lots of actors have only given two great performances or even one great performance to be considered great (Vivien Leigh anyone? James Dean didn't have to do many to be considered great after he died).
I apologize if I came off too flippant and dismissive of Miss Swank's talent. Nevertheless, I maintain she is best when playing outsiders. To me, that is a compliment, not a criticism. No one aspires to the mediocrity of PS I Love You or 27 Dresses.
'Juno' soars to number two at box office Reitman comedy behind 'Treasure' on Friday
By ANTHONY D'ALESSANDRO
Disney's "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" continued to mint coin at the top spot of Friday's box office with $6.4 million, but it was Fox Searchlight's "Juno" that received a pop on the day's chart. After placing fifth a week ago, the Jason Reitman teen pregnancy comedy pushed its way to second yesterday with $5.2 million; repping a 56% uptick thanks to its theater expansion to 1,925. In the midst of its fifth frame, the pic has accumulated $41 million.
Meanwhile, "Book of Secrets," playing at 3,762 hardtops, dropped 48% from last Friday, however, its total domestic haul currently stands at $157.2 million; 60% ahead of its first installment.
Overall the first Friday of 2008 proved to be a healthy day at the box office with the top 10 pics raking in $36.8 million, a 21% gain over the first Friday of 2007.
While "Juno" hopes to latch onto second place throughout the weekend, the pic squeaked past Warner Bros. fare "One Missed Call" and "I Am Legend" which respectively filled the day's third and fourth slots.
Frosh opener "Call" dialed up $5.17 million from 2,240 locations. That's the third best opening day for a horror thriller during the first frame of the New Year. In recent years, such eerie entries as 2005's"White Noise" and 2006's "Hostel" posted first day takes of $8.9 million and $7.6 million respectively. "Noise" opened at $24.1 million, while "Hostel" rang up a three-day weekend B.O. of $19.6 million.
Will Smith headliner "Legend" grossed $5.16 million from 3,648, down 44%, with a total running cume of $217.5 million.
Fox's "Alvin and the Chipmunks" crooned $4.6 million in fifth place off 3,462, a 55% decline, with a current cume of $165.3 million.
Focus Features' playdate expansion of "Atonement" to 583 theaters propelled the period piece back into tenth place with $1.5 million, up 61%, with a total B.O. of $15.6 million through its fifth Friday.
Paul Thomas Anderson's "There Will Be Blood" mined $385,000 in B.O. gold after upping its engagements from two to 51. Pic's receipts yesterday repped a five fold spike from last Friday as well as the day's largest theater average with $7,540. Through its first 10 days, "Blood" has drawn close to $900,000 at the box office.
Picturehouse's Spanish-lingo horror pic "The Orphanage" also saw a 99% gain from a week ago, scaring up $147,000 from 69 locales and a total B.O. of $564,000.
Warner Bros.' Jack Nicholson-Morgan Freeman topliner "The Bucket List" charted the second highest theater average of the day with $5,289 or $85,000 from 16 playdates. The film has grossed $1 million since opening on Christmas day.
The numbers laid out. Very nice hold-up for PS I Love You - they have managed to salvage this somewhat.
