Should we add Hippie Hippie Shake to the list of potential Oscar contenders? For writing, at the very least; the screenplay is by Lee Hall, who was nominated in 2000 for Billy Elliot. It's also got some notable names in the cast... Derek Jacobi, Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Hugh Bonneville...

Look above, I've updated! I've divided them up into "front runners," "lead ponies," "in the running," and i've added "dark horses."

So did I do good?

P.S. - Thanks Egg Fu!

I just finished reading the book. I'm not sure so sure. GREAT book, don't get me wrong, but it's going to take some real skill to translate it properly into a movie, and Mendes and Winslet have covered similar territory before (with American Beauty and Little Children, respectively).

I hated the book, but there were some really good supporting parts - Kathy Bates and Michael Shannon have some excellent material to work with. Both the leads are reprehensible characters, and the husband is the only one with a lot of depth.

I've updated a bit. I've added Michelle Monaghan for "Trucker" in lead ponies for lead actress and I've moved Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor") to lead ponies for lead actor and i've added Hiam Abbass ("The Visitor") to lead ponies for supporting actress. I've also placed "The Visitor" in frontrunners for original screenplay.

EDIT: I've also added "W." to the list in the "lead ponies" slot, as well as stone (director), brolin (lead actor), and banks (supporting actress) in the "lead ponies" slots as well.

I just saw "The Visitor" and think Hiam Abbass is a solid candidate for Best Supporting Actress. What an understated but powerful presence she has in this moving film!

I totally agree! She was wonderful. The only thing is, the supporting actress race has so many contenders right now. I really hope she gets it, there just needs to be a lot of buzz! I think Haaz Sleiman will have a very good chance as well! What a great actor he is! His role was so great and most of his scenes were just amazing! And of course Richard Jenkins was so amazing! I really hope he gets a nomination!

Should I add "Towelhead" to the list? It looks like it could be the some-what next Juno. Should I at least add Summer Bishil for lead actress - she could be the next ellen page...

Here's the trailer: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0787523/trailers-trailer-vi1877147929

The movie also stars Aaron Eckhart, Toni Collette, Maria Bello, and Peter Macdissi.

That film has already played at some festivals and gotten really bad reviews. Bad enough I am a little surprised it is even being released. Ultimately I think it will be barely released.

I see Kate Winslet, DiCaprio (if one of his roles is pushed to supporting), Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Josh Brolin all or one being double nominees. That would be way too crazy, though.

Also, consider putting Ed Harris's Appaloosa on the list, at least as Dark Horses.
