Heck, Sandra Bullock's ridiculous accent in the trailer for "The Blind Side" managed to make more of an impression on me.

It was a trailer. What hype can you get from it? Most of the hype Precious has is from reviews and people that have actually seen it. It wasn't really from the trailer at all.

And I figure 5 Oscar nominations is not out of the question:

Best Supporting Actress (a possible win)
Best Original Song (a possible win)
Best (Adapted) Screenplay
Best Picture (especially since there are now 10 slots, lol).
Best Director

They might get really (and I mean REALLY) lucky and get an additional nomination:

Best Actress

I see Actress as more likely than Director. Both women have received some of the best reviews in film this year. I am excited to see this.

I'm hoping that this film can earned a couple of Oscar nominations. I not only pulling for Gabby for Actress and Mo'Nique for Supporting Actress it would be great to add another Black Director as nominee for Director and likewise for it's screenplay.

Best case scenario, I see the following nominations:

BEST PICTURE
BEST DIRECTOR - Lee Daniels
BEST ACTRESS - Gabourey Sidibe
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Mo'Nique
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
BEST ORIGINAL SONG - "100%" - Mariah Carey
BEST EDITING

7 Nominations overall. I think given the amount of support this film is going to get, I can see all of these happening easily. Thanks to exposure by Tyler Perry and Oprah, I guarantee that this is going to be one of the few films that makes the Best Picture line-up to have high box office numbers...which should help out with other nominations.

Quick question though. After re-watching the trailer recently, i noticed that it listed "Screenplay by: Geoffrey Fletcher." I then checked IMDB and it says the same thing. Some of the reviews for the film though have listed the screenplay as being by a Damien Paul, as have we in our predictions, so...who wrote the adapted screenplay for PRECIOUS???

For Your Grammy Consideration:
Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak
Adele for "Hometown Glory"
Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless
Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight
Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody"
The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' "
Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"

Damien Paul is Geoffrey Fletcher's pseudonym. I believe he changed his name back to Geoffrey Fletcher on the film because of WGA rules.

Unless Precious really breaks out bigtime with the reviews (my guess is that most of the emphasis is going to be on the acting), I'd bet against Lee Daniels making it into the final five for directing.

That's putting it mildly.

This trailer played before a film I saw last night and clearly Daniels and company obviously wanted to dethrone Requiem for a Dream as the most depressing movie ever. Unless there a happy ending in there which the trailer doesn't convey, it might be wise to invest in pawn shops located near theaters showing this film.

FYC:
"Up" for Best Picture and Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director

It's not THAT depressing. There is uplift and redemption.

The end of the novel is kind of happy, with hope and about redemption, and maybe that is gonna be the fact its going to get more Oscar love than Requiem for a dream.

I've never seen Requiem for a Dream, but Precious doesn't seem entirely depressing. It seems like it's a story about hope and redemption (like musicboy said), and it looks like Precious is a character you can root for.

Of course, I say this without ever having read the novel, so what do I know?

is there any chance at all that Mariah can get Oscar-Nominated for this movie? (for acting)? as a Mariah fan it would definetly be nice payback for all the grief i've taken from supporting her and just might make people forget about "glitter".

Praying The Daytime Emmys air on TV in 2010!

I don't know if anyone will forget about Glitter, lol, j/k. But on the real, I remember reading online (earlier this year) that Mariah was getting great reviews from the movie (in terms of acting), but I haven't heard anyone mention her as a possible Oscar contender. Even if she doesn't get nominated, this movie will definitely help her gain more respect, in terms of acting. She is really growing as an actress, and this might open the door for additional roles in the near future, which is great!

But I still think that she might gain an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song...or Robin Thicke might gain the nomination (I keep hearing reports that he wrote the theme song for the film, but I haven't heard any details about the song yet).

Unless Mariah blows the competition out of the water, there's no way in HALE she's getting nodded. Acting wise.

Song wise? Eh, she'll probably get a nomination.

"100%" Not Included in Precious?

Mariah Carey's "100%" from Lee Daniels's Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire will reportedly no longer be included in the film. Instead, a new contender has joined the fray: Mary J. Blige, whose original track "I See in Color" was included for the first time in a print of the film screened last week at Lionsgate in Santa Monica. But it's the story behind its inclusion that is most interesting.

Blige reacted to "Precious" quite emotionally. What she saw on the screen hit her so close to home that she became personally invested in the film and wanted to contribute in some way. "I See in Color," which plays during a key scene in the film (and therefore has a leg up with the music branch), is the result.

WHAT???????????????????? Is this real???? Wow...there goes Mariah's only shot at an Oscar nomination from this movie. I can't even lie...I would LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Mary J. Blige winning an Oscar. I mean, "Precious" is rough and gritty. So I bet that song is full of emotion. Mary always knows how to deliver a great emotional song when she needs to.

How do you think, social workers, and others working with and for this client base, going to react to Precious? Or better yet, ex social workers who, couldnt take it any more and left the profession (but, with two older children, from the 'system', which they adopted)?

Do you think they'll be itching to see this?
Or not....?
