Yes it is, since Sundance in January the buzz has been growing and growing.
Paula and Mariah have excellent reviews too, it would be amazing to have a nomination to one of them.
I think Mo'Nique will be the token nominee from "Precious".
Have never say never on a possible nomination for Paula or Mariah. Although we can safely predict that all three ladies will be nominated for Image Awards atleast lol.

HAHA!!!! The NAACP Image Awards will be full of nominations for "Precious." And I'll be sitting right on my couch, cheering them on! The BET Awards will probably do the same thing, but I probably won't watch that show again...
It would be nice if Sherri or Mariah or Paula got nominations too...but I highly doubt it. It seems as though Monique's and Gabby's performances are creating the buzz...but as someone mentioned earlier, Sherri, Paula, Lenny, and Mariah will win a SAG for Best Ensemble...so no one will be empty-handed, by the end of the awards season, lol...
Wow! This is actually EXTREMELY HUGE for Precious to win the Audience Award at Toronto. I could swear that I read somewhere that Precious is the first film to win the Audience Award at both Toronto and Sundance. SO CONGRATS!!!
I have been saying all along that this film is more of a contender than people are giving it credit to be, and I think with the recent wins at Toronto and Sundance that Precious may even be the one to beat, especially following in the footsteps of Slumdog Millionaire and American Beauty!

On another note, I hope that Monique continues to take on dramatic roles. This is probably her first (if not one of her first) dramatic roles. I hope that she stops doing cheesy BET movies, cause she is officially beyond that. And it will probably be hard for her to give up those films, since BET just gave her a talk show (that starts next month). But I seriously hope that she continues to take on dramatic roles...she is amazing!!!!!!!!

Well there aren't too many English language non-doc films that play both Sundance and Toronto, and this was quite possibly the first Sundance or Toronto audience award winner to play both festivals, so there have been very few chances for this to happen.

This film was given the top prize at The Sundance Film Festival AND The Toronto International Film Festival so I am thinking that this film could be Oscar worthy. I will, however, withhold my comments until I actually see this film to be able to give a more accurate assessment on the film.

Hating on Precious this year???. YOU WILL LOSE!
Not having seen Precious, I of course have no opinion about it.
Please stop making things up. My post had nothing to do with hating Precious, of course.
What I wrote had nothing to do with opinion - only fact. My point was that very few films that win an audience prize at one of the two festivals play at the other one, so that is the main reason that it rarely happens.
The only other case where one film was awarded at both was Whale Rider - it first won the Peoples' Choice Award at Toronto, then won the world cinema audience award at Sundance (Sundance has four audience awards overall).

I don't think this changes much for Precious - its awards-season trajectory was always going to launch it straight into the Oscars - but I think what it does do is pretty much lock up acting nominations for Sidibe and Mo'Nique. Precious would have gone the distance without the TIFF prize, but I think this definitely puts it into play for Picture & Director as well/.
"Notorious was nice, but it’s not in the color purple range" "Angels and Demons may get nominated for cinematography the imagery was profound" "District Nine will definitely win for best foreign film it made money and everyone loved it" ~ 8movies

There is a lot of strong competition for the "Best Directors" category. But if Daniels gets in the category and actually wins, will he be the first African-American director to win that award?
If the "Precious" train never stops and it wins Best Picture, Oprah gets her Oscar. great.

Her credit is as executive producer. Only producers (and then only those who actually did some work during the production) receive Oscars when a film wins best picture.

I share these sentiments with regard to the acting nominations. A directing nod for Daniels is probably also closer to reality now; but I think a win for him is still not likely at present unless the film becomes a box office hit. He's too much of a newcomer to win against what will probably be more experienced competitors. If Oprah is successful at promoting thils film and it reaches out beyond the art film crowd to achieve some large grosses, it might snag a Best Picture win. I don't think is in the cards, though.
FYC: "Up" for Best Picture and Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director
