Hmm...should Lee Daniels and Co. have gone with the Weinsteins instead of Lionsgate??? After all, they did just score an out-of-nowhere Best Picture nomination for The Reader.

Also, to any haters out there on Lee Daniels & Co...if having Harvey Weinstein fight over ownership rights to the film doesn't convince you that PUSH: BASED ON THE NOVEL BY SAPPHIRE will be good or have Oscar buzz, I don't know what will!

For Your Grammy Consideration:
Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak
Adele for "Hometown Glory"
Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless
Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight
Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody"
The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' "
Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"

Push was not produced by Minghella or Pollack, so the reason The Reader got nominmated - which wasn't the Weinsteins - doesn't apply here.

Lions Gate is going for the box office potential, as they should. They have made Tyler Perry a box office success, and will go this route with the film.

If there are strong reviews and critics awards at the end of the year, then perhaps an Oscar campaign will follow. But LG will keep their eye on the main prize - popular success.

If all this buzz is constant during the year and the figth between TWC and LGF keeps in media, we all gonna see the rise of Mo´Nique and Mariah Carey from Sundance to the red carpets next year. O Winfrey has told recently that the promotion of this film is gonna be a priority in her company.

Umm, no.

Why is "Umm... no" your catchphrase of the day in like every thread???

And what do you not understand, I could care less about Mariah Carey. She has a very good singing voice and she could possibly be a very actress (after seeing this movie), but because I said that she has a chance at getting nominated I am suddenly a fanboy? This is ridiculous.

2010 Oscars FYC:

Lead Actor - Joseph Gordon-Levitt, (500) Days of Summer
Lead Actress - Meryl Streep, Julie & Julia
Supporting Actor - Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds
Supporting Actress - Mo'Nique, Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire
Original Screenplay - Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, (500) Days of Summer

Here's another article from Huffingtn Post:

Weinstein Vs. Lionsgate: Court Battle Looms For Sundance Darling 'Push'
February 5, 2009 02:38 PM EST |

LOS ANGELES — The film isn't even in theaters yet, but "Push: Based on a Novel by Sapphire" has already spawned dueling lawsuits.

Lionsgate Films and The Weinstein Co. on Wednesday filed lawsuits in Los Angeles and New York, both claiming they had an agreement with producers to distribute the film.

"Push," based on the 1996 novel by the poet Sapphire and directed by Lee Daniels, was a darling at the recent Sundance Film Festival, picking up grand jury and audience awards.

In a statement, attorney Bert Fields said The Weinstein Co. had a "firm agreement" with the film's producers and that Lionsgate interfered. Lionsgate claims the producers signed a written agreement stating they had no written or verbal agreement with Weinstein.

Lionsgate is seeking a judge's ruling that it owns the rights to distribute "Push" in the United States and Canada. Weinstein is suing for breach of contract.

"Push" is already competing for its title. A sci-fi movie of the same name starring Dakota Fanning will be released Friday.

Sapphire's "Push" is a dark yet hopeful story of a young, illiterate woman who is the victim of incest and trying to find her way in 1980s Harlem.

Fields' statement said Lionsgate was trying to pre-empt its lawsuit and is "forum-shopping." A Lionsgate spokesperson said the company believes Weinstein's lawsuit doesn't have any merits.

Lionsgate Films is owned by Lionsgate Entertainment Corp.

Depending on whether or not Mariah Carey is going to have more money shots than that scene, I think we can tell if she can get a nomination or not.

That Mariah scene is actually very good.

I swear on my life...if all of you Mariah fanboys hijack this thread with petty arguments about Mariah then I will make sure all of you are banned.

I am very serious about this.

With that said, this film is going to be huge. There's so much hype around this film and there isn't even a release date yet.

I would hope that that is not directed at me. Afterall, I was the first person in the ''What films will be contenders next year'' thread to say that there was no way in hell that Mariah would be nominated. I don't like the fact that you're threatening posters.

ETA: I may have misunderstood your post. Are you telling people to not start a nest of Mariah posts, or are you telling people to not act like she has a chance at a nod?

Nope that wasn't directed at you.

That was just a general warning to everyone.

The Grammy forum is notorious for catfights over Mariah and the Oscar forum won't be any different once the hype on PUSH grows.

Why don't you just close the thread now?

Okay. I understand what you mean. However, please don't ban me if I write that I like the performance. Frown

Of course not. I wouldn't ban someone for praising something.

I just don't like it when posters hijack threads with petty fighting. Go on over to the Grammy forum. You'll see what I'm talking about.

LOL—why, the very idea is "precious"! (And I can't wait to hear what Sapphire has to say about that!)

I think going with The Weinstein Company for distribution may have been the best idea. Who is better at getting their films nominated for awards?

For your consideration, Oscars 2009:
Best Picture: Inglorious Basterds
Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz, Inglorious Basterds
Supporting Actress: Mélanie Laurent, Inglorious Basterds
Original Screenplay: Quentin Tarantino, Inglorious Basterds

No joke!

Does Tyler Perry really have any sway over Oscar voters?

But yes, I expect this to rack up awards for Mo'Nique and possibly for Sidibe and the screenplay. Carey - nope.
