I was looking on various prediction sites at the possible nominees for this year and the three I keep consistantly seeing as predicted nominees (Down to Earth, The Wrestler and I Thought I Lost You) all play during the credits. Playing during the credits is usually against a song for this category (although the songs from Wall-E and Bolt do have animation at the beginning of the credits). Does anyone find it odd that at least 3 songs in the category could come from their movies credits sequence? That doesn't usually happen, does it? also do Jaiho or Gran Torino(the song) play during the credits? I haven't seen those films yet.
Its a good point, The Music branch gets sent the Song in the context of the film now, so instead of a song on a CD they get the song and the scene it was in. I think Down To Earth will get nominated as it add's to the film, you see the humans return to earth etc, however I think Gran Torino and Jaiho might have difficulty. I could see High School Musical 3 getting nominated for the simple fact that the songs are in the film, sung by the actors and advance the story (eg: Enchanted, Dreamgirls).
