As always, "other" needs to be included.

My choice is Meryl Streep, perhaps paired an actor (George Clooney, Will Smith?)

What I am hearing is that there will be two hosts this year, not one, in any event.

I suppose it's good exposure, but I can't imagine actors and entertainers falling over each other for the "honor" of hosting the Academy Awards.

It's a thankless task.

Variety says today that Hugh Jackman has turned down the Oscar producers. He did not want to host back-to-back plus needs a break between finishing on Broadway and starting a new movie.

I don't think it should ever be someone with a decent shot of being nominated. This year, that would rule out both Meryl Streep and George Clooney.

I think previous winners who are potential nominees is different than someone who has not won before, if that person is willing to do it.

Poor Neil patrick harris...he would be the best..but he has that "TV STIGMA" attached to him...so he wont get the job.
Comedians or comic actors do well....timing is important if there are jokes..or musical numbers require a talented singer...
My choices..

Whoopi Goldberg
Bette Midler
Alec Baldwin
Sean Hayes
or just bring back

Billy Crystal!!!

It's sort of an impossible task. They need someone who

1) appeals to the audience at the Kodak (staid, stuffy, not cutting edge)

2) appeals to the younger demographic they want (rules out most of the names mentioned)

3) can perform under a great deal of pressure/fast on his/her feet

4) has some popularity outside the US, since the large majority of viewers aren't Americans.

Pretty much no one fits all four.

I'd say Ellen DeGeneres has all four. But I wasn't a huge fan of her last hosting gig.

"District Nine will definitely win for best foreign film it made money and everyone loved it"

If they wanted to liven up the show, then they should ask Lisa Lampanelli to host it.

The oscars are going downhill so fast..that i wouldnt be surprised if they asked MILEY CYRUS or JAY Z..to appeal to the kids audience...

Sad that music industry people with limited talent would command such a forum..

Pitiful !!

Can you imagine! LL would have a field day insulting everyone in the room -- gays, Jews, blacks, latinos, seniors, and combinations thereof LOL!

I think Tom Hanks would make a good host since he's is that everyman type of person and he's a well respected actor.

Good choice, but he'd never do it.

I voted for Steve Carell. However, my personal choices would be either Steve Martin or Robin Williams.

For Your Oscar Consideration:
Charlotte Gainsbourg, "Antichrist" - Best Actress in a Leading Role
Sharlto Copley, "District 9" - Best Actor in a Leading Role
Christoph Waltz, "Inglourious Basterds" - Best Actor in a Supporting Role

"Inglourious Basterds" - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction
"District 9" - Best Editing, Best Visual Effects
"God Bless Us Everyone", A Christmas Carol - Best Original Song

Ricky Gervais should host.

Or Jon Stewart again.

Or Conan O'Brien.

Tom Hanks will really doa good Oscar host, but we know he won't do it. Same goes for Will Smith.

Like what I've been pushing, I want Ricky Gervais to host the Oscars. I think he'll do a good job come Oscar time. Neil Patrick Harris would be an okay choice too.

Or Amy Poehler.

I hope The Office wins as Best Comedy Series for this year's Emmy Awards.

winner

The Oscar producers should select a shocking, out of left field choice like LL. I bet she'd have those stars walking out of the ceremony out of pure embarrassment.

Hanks is friends with Sherak. is also on the board of governors, helped push him to the presidency. If things get really dicey, he might be leaned on to host or co-host.
