I was able to watch the five-minute clip on a different site.
Still, the one-two combo of Roland Emmerich and Harald Kloser, who collaborated with him on 10,000 BC, leads me to suspect that 2012 will be all special effects, CGI, and no real substance.
I like the cast though. John Cusack, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, and Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejofor etc.
If Emmerich can, at least match what I think is his best film, Stargate, he'll have exceeded my expectations.

I found "Stargate" near unwatchable, I have never seen the various television shows spun off from so I cannot comment on their quality, so he will have to do more than that for me. I do not even think I will see "2012" in the theatres if there are acclaimed/Oscar films to watch in the theatres instead.

I found a working clip of that five minutes, and I found it quite good! But I share the disdain shown towards Roland Emmerich and I expect absolutely nothing from 2012. I wouldn't be surprised if that clip gives away the best part of the film.

I think, a nomination for visual effects (and possibly in the sound categories) is imminent, which will only encourage him to make MORE of the same kinds of movies.

Lol! Wasnt his original 'purpose', to make a Noah's Ark type of film? And that, one of his producers or collaborators convinced him to title it 2012? I doubt he had even heard of 2012 or the Mayan calendar before that. Ok, maybe he had. But I wouldnt bet on it.

Well, sure. But apparently, we'll all be dead then so you gotta make the bucks while you can...
Hahaha. My thoughts exactly. I'm torn. I love apocalyptic movies where the world gets destroyed with lots of CGI effects. However, the acting looks terrible, but then again, the clip was of John Cusack and Amanda Peet. Not the greatest actors in my book. And the CGI while at parts looked cool, some of it really did look like it was straight out of a video game. I mean, its Roland Emmerich, so I'm not expecting any kind of Oscar worthy cinema here. I'll probably see it regardless just cuz the premise is kinda cool.
