I mean, i was talking about it in the Warren Beatty AFI tribute thread and i think that it deserves its own thread. In the last ten years, Julie Christie was nominated to the oscars for two little movies, but she was the best in the bunch both times and wont the many critics prizes( althought in the first time, Helena Boham Carter was equal talking about prizes), and in the two cases, she lost against two inferior rivals, Helen Hunt and Marion Cotillard. Plus, i think that some campaing in the last year was lessclass against her with some comments from some people, like Forest Whitaker and others. I mean, could be Julie Christie in a black list by the academy because her political ideas and her hate against the Hollywood system???

I think in a similar case, Vanessa Redgrave, with the same political ideas than Julie. In the last years, she has been ignored by the academy( last year with two movies like evening and atorment) or losing against inferior rivals like marisa tomei.Has the Hollywood academy a black list against people with political ideas or views against its system???

No. Not at all.

Both are previous Oscar winners and it is hard to win a second Oscar... even harder when you are a woman.

There are non-political explanations to both their Oscar losses.

This thread is a waste of time... especially as no one shares your Julie Christie obsession even though most on this site are fans of her work.

Not always right, but no fool either

An actress with less fame but giving equally good performances in two small Canadian movies like Afterglow and Away from Her would likely not have received Oscar nominations.

Far from being blacklisted, Christie is widely admired and respected. Few if anyone is aware of her political beliefs.

Redgrave does still suffer from some opposition to her political activism, but she still has managed to receive 6 nominations in her career and a win. Had her role in Atonement been somewhat larger, she likely would have been nominated last year.

And Pacinofan is right - this thread is absurd even by Goldderby standards.

First, i dont have any obsession with anybody. The obsessions are for the ill people, and im not ill, for the moment. Only talking about an actress who im a great fan, nothing more.

Now, quoting your last post in the other post:

I don't think there is any political scandal to Julie Christie's two most recent Oscar losses. Her loss for "Afterglow" was because she was in a tiny film nobody saw, it was so little released a lot of Oscar voters likely skipepd it as well, and she was not really in the race despite her critics' wins. She lost to an actress in a very popular film that was also a best picure nominee. Her loss for "Away from Her" was probably because lately the best actress award has skewed younger and rather than award a previous winner a lot of voters wanted to vote for a hot, young talent who did not have an Oscar. The fact that Christie disappears for chunks of her movie, reminds me of Sissy Spacek in "In the Bedroom", while Cottilard is in almost every minute of her film did not help her either.

I think that the critics awards are important in the oscar races, but what im talking is the political issues with im not familiar. I mean, today to win an oscar is a mix of several issues. It seems that to be young and being in more minutes in a movie count( it sucks), also if you are a previous oscar winner and those issues. But i really think that the political views of the people and their hate against the Hollywood System counts a lot too. And this its pretty bad because to win an oscar in Hollywood today its more a mix of several factors than only acting talent, what is really unfair and dirty.

Julie Christie is 67 and Vanessa Redgrave is 71. How often do women that age win an Oscar -- a second Oscar?

Rarely. Off hand, I can only think of Kate Hepburn, Geraldine Page and Jessica Tandy (of course, the latter two received their first Oscars).

Ok, if everbody thinks that this thread is ridiculous and doesnt add anything, stop the press and let the thread die. I only thought that it could be an interesting subjet to discuss, but if nobody want to do it, case closed and thread to the hell.

The critics awards don't really do a good job of predicting Best Actress. Staunton, Moore, and Spacek would have also won.

This thread is pointless and redundant.

Julie Christie lost the Oscar this year. Get over it.
