well for me, an obvious example is Julia Roberts. I loved her during the nineties, in her rom-coms. But ever since she won the oscar for Erin, she thinks she's the best actress in the world. Her doing more serious stuff like Mona Lisa Smile and Charlie Wilson's War prove that she really isn't much of a dramtaic actress. She was atrocious in Charlie Wilson's War. and her win for Erin was good at best. I would've even preferred her winning for her Oscar-nominated performance in Pretty Woman, which was fresh and full of life.
I'm interesdted in hearing your replies

Julia Roberts (smug as ever and according to her recent appearance on Oprah she doesn't wear deodorant. She says she tries to keep that to herself. So why the hell she blabbed this on Oprah is beyond me)
George Clooney (smug as ever)
Steve Carrell (not that great)
Tina Fey (waaaayyyy to much hype)
Jennifer Hudson (one hit wonder)
James Denton (awful actor)
Teri Hatcher (not that great at all)
Jennifer Aniston (mediocre actress at best)
Brangelina (media's fascination with them is over the top).
Ben Stiller
Halle Berry
Beyonce

Rene Zellweger. At one point she was my favorite young Amercian actress then I couldn't stand her. Loved her in "Nurse Betty" and "Bridget Jones" then her quirk disappeared and she began to take roles for Oscar's sake. From her overrated (at least on these boards) stiff turn in "Chicago" then her hacky overwrought performance in "Cold Mountain"- all while her face sqeezed in more and more. I just can't bear her.
For Your 2008 Emmy Consideration:
Pushing Daisies (Outstanding Comedy Series) Anna Friel (Ouststanding Lead Actress in a Comedy) Kristen Chenoweth (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy) Chi McBride (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy)
Friday Night Lights (Outstanding Drama Series) Kyle Chandler (Outstanding Leading Actor in a Drama) Connie Britton (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama) Scott Porter (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama)
Hayden Christensen. Don't ask me why, but I saw a lot of potential in this kid, especially with "Life As A House" and "Shattered Glass" but he really lost me in "Jumper."

Brittany Murphy- i enjoyed her when she was slightly overweight and took on roles as the awkward, shy outcast, she was funny, lively and had personality but then she lost all the weight and became just another bland, boring blonde actress.
Resse Witherspoon- i used to like her during her indie period, but as soon as she won the oscar she's become so full of herself.

Yup. When I saw this thread title, this is immediately who I thought of. She was flat-out amazing in "Jerry Maguire", "One True Thing" and "Nurse Betty" (which she was snubbed for)...but then she started going downhill (ironically, she started getting Oscar nods, left and right). She was miscast in "Chicago" but she was as good as she could have been. Her Bridget Jones work was overrated, Cold Mountain was awful.
Emmy FYC: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures Of Old Christine
Lucy Lui- she was fabulous on "Ally McBeal" and did some decent work with the Charlie's angels movies, but as of late has become an annoying stereotype
Cathriene Zeta-Jones- come on get a new trick already... all she does is growl, snarl and yell

I loved James McAvoy's debut as Mr. Tumnus in "Narnia". He was just perfect. I kept liking him and then I saw "Starter for 10". And it was just overkill. I'd seen too much of him, when his technique was poor, and now I see those flaws in everything he does. I'm over him, and he's barely begun.
I loved Jim Carrey - he was actually funny and a good actor. So stop being so weird. Be a normal person and a good comedian, please (if you can, please try).
And I'm actually ashamed of ever liking Robert De Niro or Gerard Depardieu. I thought you were geniuses, now I feel conned. I guess that's what becomes apparent later in a career when you are at heart a self-indulgent sexist lowlife (Depardieu) or a self-deceptive coward who never takes an artistic risk, especially if it would mean less money (De Niro).

I didn't know that about Depardieu. I can't say that I love him or loathe him, but it's interesting to find that out about him.
I totally agree about De Niro though. I know he probably has child support payments and film festivals to support, but there has to be movies out there that will pay well and are worth seeing. I know a lot of people criticize Pacino for hamming it up, but out of the two, at least I think Pacino still tries for the most part. Sometimes being a ham works like in The Devil's Advocate, where he was the best thing, and sometimes it doesn't, but at least I feel he still cares about his work unlike De Niro who I feel is just sleepwalking through most of his movies and just there to get paid.

And I adored Martin Scorsese. I'm over him, too.
I don't really like his pairing up with Leonardo DiCaprio, who I'll comment in a moment, but I guess I'm not quite over Scorsese yet though. I am over Steven Soderbergh though. It would be difficult to say the least to top the amazing year he had with Erin Brockovich and Traffic, but now I feel like he's been trying too hard ever since. Plus, all the smugness that has rubbed off on him from all the Ocean's cast and his annoying wife have probably tainted him forever.
As for Di Caprio, it's not like he annoys me now, but he still has a ways to go before he gets back in my good graces. I did like him pre-Titanic, but then afterward, he acted so sulky about not being nominated for the movie and then all the other things like the ***** Posse and being friends with creepy David Blaine and what-not, and the mediocre movies he was in until he finally paired up with Scorsese that I really thought he was going to be another hasbeen all because he resented the success of Titanic and seemed to be doing everything he could to undo that. While he hasn't impressed me as much as he did pre-Titanic, he's getting there, but if David Blaine does another one of those stupid stunts that don't have anything to do with magic, the goodwill might evaporate, and Di Caprio will have to start all over again.

I understood why Murphy felt like she had to do that; although, it always makes me sad when a member of the non-lollipop head brigade finally conforms.-* So I could stand her even if I wasn't really a big fan of hers up until Don't Say a Word, and I couldn't escape that very, very annoying "I'll never tell" phrase whenever I would turn on the television. Then, things got even worse when she became more known for her love life than her work. Suddenly Alicia Silverstone's career didn't really look so bad because at least she could proudly say that she wasn't in Uptown Girls or Little Black Book.
-*OT: I was so disappointed when Sara Rue conformed too. I thought she looked so much better with some weight on her and with a darker hair color.
I would also have to add Melanie Griffith to my list... She was beyond terrible in Viva Laughlin!
