From what I've seen, Wall-E is the best English language film of the year, and Still Life the best foreign language film, so call me happy.

YAY....I'm becoming more and more of a believer that WALL-E will get strong consideration. I still think the Dark Knight will get that 5th spot over WALL-E...but I'd be a happy man if i see both of them on the list for Best Picture come Oscar time.

Mostly good wins here. I'm glad SOMEONE is finally noticing Sally Hawkins and her wonderful performance! That movie was so hilarious and touching and all b/c of her (and maybe Mike Leigh a little bit, haha). Its very cool to see them give the award to Wall-E (and to have another blockbuster, The Dark Knight, as the runner-up!). The only win I disagree with is Waltz with Bashir winning Animation (I think animation-wise, the film is a little sloppy and Wall-E deserved to take this win too).

For Your Grammy Consideration:
Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak
Adele for "Hometown Glory"
Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless
Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight
Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody"
The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' "
Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"

My favourite out of this lot: Eddie Marsan getting his first nod. Hopefully there;s a few more, so he may have a small chance at getting the Oscar nom (for me, he was such a crucial and talented element of the film).

"A lot of midgets tend to kill themselves. The disproportionate, I meant. Herv Villechaize offed on Fantasy Island. I think somebody offed on Time Bandits. I suppose they must get really sad about like being really little and that people looking at them, laughing at them, calling them names. You know, short arse. There's another famous midget. I miss him but I can't remember. It's not the R2D2 man; no, he's still going. I hope your midget doesn't kill himself. Your dream sequence will be ****ed."

Why do they have to compete for a fifth slot? "Slumdog millionaire", "Milk", "Benjamin Button", "Wall-E" and "The Dark Knight" could easily end up being the nominees.

Congrats Kristen! All the PD haters can (SPOILER ALERT) Suck it!

That's my most likely 5 at the moment, with Gran Torino lurking.

A little love, like light fairy dust was blown towards Hunger. There is hope yet.

And I'm glad that Wall-E and TDK were so high on the Best Picture list, rather than, ahem....

blah

You're so right...and I hope it comes true. But WALL-E faces some tough hurdles--the animation category for one. And two major blockbuster crowd pleaser in one year? Can the Academy actually have the balls to do it? i hope so.

Allow me to play devil's advocate and point out best picture category looks like the L.A. Critics just woke up from naptime.

How could the Academy possibly NOT nominate Wall-E for best picture?

Nominees for best foreign language film have been nominated for best picture the same year. This is no different.

The LA Film Critics victory is a huge step toward a likely nomination, and a win is a real possibility.

So Wall-E wins Best Picture but loses Best Animated film does this make any sense? Happy for Sean Penn and Sally Hawkins and this should help her case a little. Glad Melissa Leo keeps showing here and everywhere. Shes getting an Oscar nod!!!!!!!! And is Man on A Wire the only documentary that anyone has seen this year? I mean its a good film and all but its basically been sweeping everything in that category so far and this year there were so many wonderful documentaries. Also how did Penelop Cruz win over Kate Winslet not happy about that either.

I think they just decided to share the animation wealth, but yes it seems weird.
