In 2007, "Enchanted" songwriters Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz received three nominations in the Original Song category. The same thing happened in 2006 with Henry Krieger ("Dreamgirls"), in 1994 with Elton John and Time Rice ("The Lion King") and in 1991 with Alan Menken and Howard Ashman ("Beauty and the Beast").

Who else has achieved this impressive feat? Has anyone ever managed to get four of even five nominations in the same category?

I believe most of the 3+ nom types in the same year were from the very famous who produced, directed, wrote & starred in their ventures, like Orson Welles (3 for Citizen Cane), Warren Beatty (4 for Reds AND 4 for that horrid Heaven Can Wait), Woody Allen (3 for Annie Hall), Coint Eastwoon (3 for Million Dollar Baby AND 3 for Unforgiven). Only Clint has seen this rich bountiful result in two best pic wins. Miss sugar**** herself, Mel Gibson only got two for Braveheart.

Lyricists Alan and Marilyn Bergman accomplished the same achievement of three Best Song nominees in 1982. The difference from the previous achievements cited is that the Bergmans received their nominations for three songs in three different films. In addition they collaborated with three different composers.

As a footnote, the Bergmans repeated their three nominations the following year with three more their work for Yentl.

Edith Head pulled three nominations for Costume Design in 1963 with Wives and Lovers, A New Kind of Love and Love With the Proper Stranger.
