The biggest shock? The biggest happiness? The worst hidden anger?
Mercedes McCambridge was so thrilled that Frank Sinatra won for "From Here To Eternity" that she even jumped. It was nice even if totally subjective from her.

I hate it when Spielberg presented Best Director to Robert Zemeckis and instead of announcing the winner said to his son "You're father just won an Academy Award!"

Ugh yes I hated that.
Good reactions: Goldie Hawn's "Oh my God" when presenting the BA award to George C Scott. Audrey Hepburn when presenting the BA award to Rex Harrison. Halle Berry presenting the BA award to Adrian Brody, not because of anything she did but because of the sudden, huge burst of energy in the room after a somewhat dull few hours beforehand. Ingrid Bergman's (if I remember correctly) shock at best actress being a tie (Streisand and Hepburn).

Even though he obviously didn't agree with the win I thought his reaction was a little rude. He should have at least tried to conceal it some, it's not something everyone else wasn't thinking.
I love Bergman's reaction "The Winner... is... it's a tie" and she holds her chest while she reads everything else.

They weren't?
If anyone has earned the right to cut through the industry bullsh!t, it's Jack Nicholson.

Hahaha! Great choice!
It's not really a presenter/winner moment, but I loved when Salma Hayek was doing the 2006 Oscar nominees, and read ahead and saw that her best friend Penelope Cruz was nominated for Best Actress for 'Volver', and squeeled out loud. It was genuine, and she ran off to go call her! I loved it.

Yes, those were pretty funny because you know that the presenter wanted someone or something else to win. At least they did a slightly better job of hiding their disappointment than Julia Roberts did at the Golden Globes when she announced that Ang Lee won instead of her friend Steven Soderbergh. I know she was disappointed, but I thought that by not concealing it better, it was really disrespectful to Lee.
Of course, her bad reaction to Denzel Washington's win has already been mentioned, but in that category, I'd also place Michael and Kirk Douglas' reactions to Chicago winning. It seemed like a pretty safe bet until The Pianist started winning all the big awards that night, but I usually don't like it when the producers set up something like that knowing that _____ is probably going to win, so we'll pick a friend or someone connected in some way to whatever wins to make it a too cute moment with the only exception being when Lucas, Spielberg, and Coppola awarded Martin Scorcese. I know that it seems inevitable sometimes that _____ will win, but those kind of clique moments come off more as smug and rude to the nominees who don't have any chance than endearing to me. Or sometimes they backfire badly when _______ doesn't win, and the presenter is obviously disgusted or disappointed.

He was shocked. I don't see how you could conceal shock. Decent people everywhere cried out in horror. I thought he handled it as best he could.

Cher announced Sean Connery's win in a rather lackluster tone, but that probably had something to do with the fact that her co-star, Vincent Gardenia, was also a nominee.
I remember Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin presenting the Screenplay nominees at the 1998/99 Oscars and the first one presented was Adapted for "Gods and Monsters". Steve Martin announced it in a normal tone and Goldie Hawn acted very positive towards it and said something about how she lived in the house where it was filmed. Then she announced "Shakespeare in Love" won Original but seemed so disappointed and quiet that Steve Martin said the name again because some didn't seem to catch it.
Also have to agree with Jack Nicholson's reaction to "Crash" and the deadpan response to "Shakespeare in Love" winning by Harrison Ford.

It was a pity that Javier Bardem didnt introduce best supporting actress as he should... maybe next year both introduce best supporting acting cathegories...
